Power Fantasy

He stopped for a moment and took a deep breath. It was a long shot, and he would only get one chance at it. If he finished that mission, he could go to that beautiful fantasy world he wanted to visit earlier. There were abilities there. Powers and skills that could cleanse disease, heal wounds, and purify the undead. He would only need to have the skill points and drive necessary to use them.

“Can I do it all in only a few months, though?” he asked himself seriously. Every day would be one minute in the apocalypse. The skills he could acquire, hopefully, would make it incredibly easy to reach the school. In truth, the shrine was not that far away. If the way were completely clear, he could probably jog there in well under an hour. The only reason it took so long to get there now was the zombies. Run the entire way, purifying as he went, and he could get there in no time.

“Three months… that’s the maximum amount of time,” he decided. “Need to see results after a month, though…”

Scott rubbed his eyes briefly then nodded. Decision made, he returned to the previous morning in the apocalypse and quickly woke Saiko.

Still nude from their shared night together, she smiled softly at him and leaned in for a kiss. He kissed her sweetly on the lips then sighed.

“So, why did you wake me up?” she asked him curiously.

Scott looked her in the eyes and offered her a warm and gentle smile. “Please kill me.”

“What?” she asked. It was a little early in the morning for jokes, but the shift in his demeanor made her sit up straight. “You’re serious?”

“Unfortunately, that’s the only way to save our friends,” he said sincerely.

Saiko listened intently as he told her what had happened recently. Once she learned about the probability that the others had eaten tainted meat, she grew silent and withdrew a little.

“So, why do I have to kill you?” she asked after a moment of reflection.

“I need you to know what is going on. I’ll be gone for a few months. Easily an hour or longer will pass here. I did not want you to worry,” said Scott. “If I make a quick save right before you kill me, it will count as a new autosave point for this world when I transfer over.”

“What if I did it without you making a quick save?” she asked curiously.

“I’m not sure, but I think time reverses for me until I am not liable to die instantly, and that point will be the new auto-save,” he replied.

“Oh… Can’t I come with you?” she asked him suddenly. “That would be better? Right?”

“I wish!” Scott shook his head. “I don’t have the waifu points, yet.”

“So, you’re sure you will be alright?” she asked him earnestly. “I know you can do things, but…”

He drew her into a warm embrace, “I’m going to be fine. Just try not to draw attention to this place for an hour or so. OK?”

“Sure….” she agreed reluctantly. “When do you want me to do it.”

“Let me fiddle with my bags, and store some food and other things,” said Scott. “Then… we’ll get started.”

  “Right…” she replied solemnly.

They scoured the shrine and accompanying buildings for supplies, even more so than before, and secured a reasonable amount of food and various toiletries. Scott shifted a lot of it over to the storage box back at Keiko’s apartment, then they went out into the shrine proper. He knelt down and took a deep breath then made his quick save.

“When you’re ready…” he said quietly. Scott then closed his eyes and stretched his neck to offer it to her cleanly. He did not have his costume equipped. Hopefully she could do the deed with one swift movement.

The last words he would hear in the apocalypse for months to come were, “Psycho Slash!”

He felt the coolness of the floor on his cheek for the brief few seconds that life remained, and then there was nothing but darkness. While he awaited his inevitable rebirth in the loading area, Saiko fell to her knees as tears came to her eyes.

She placed her sword to the ground then picked up his head and rocked it gently. He had not come back, yet. He might never come back. Even if he could return, what would happen if he chose to stay wherever he was now?

The thought of things ending this way unsettled her greatly. Saiko whispered softly to the head, “Please don’t let this be the last time I see you… Not like this.”

  About the Author

Scottie Futch is a goofy sort of fellow who enjoys parodies, anime, pop-culture, zombies, and various lewd images of innocent videogame heroines who are no doubt far better portrayed by their source material than any parody he might create.

  He also likes cake.

I'm telling you, this guy really loves his cake. It's almost a mental health disease at this point. If you're religious, pray for him. If not, ask the flying spaghetti monster to pay back the money that he borrowed. The author knows where that fool lives. He can't dodge true justice forever!

May his sauce be forever saucy...

  Acknowledegements

I want to thank all of my wonderful readers, patrons, and well-wishers for making this book come to light. A special shout out to Daniel Schinhofen. He has been chasing me around and whipping me mercilessly in an attempt to flog me into finishing this ridiculous masterwork. Speaking of masterworks, consider giving his stories a read if you haven’t ever heard of him. His most recent work, Aether’s Blessing was legit. Soooo legit.
