I clear my throat. “And a killer, too,” I say with a sigh.

“No,” he says fiercely, grabbing my chin and forcing me to meet his gaze. “You did what you had to do. Life is precious, but Gloria was too evil to live. Someone would’ve died if you hadn’t taken her out.”

  “I know.”

“If you want to be Chance and Bryn’s nanny, that’s fine. I think you’d be more suited as Georgiana’s bodyguard.”

That thought never occurred to me, but I like it. “Really?”

  “Fuck, yeah.”

“Do you think I can be a bodyguard nanny?”

“Raine, you can be anything you want to. You’re an amazing woman.”

My heart speeds up at the fierce pride in his voice. I want to crawl into bed with him and kiss him all over. “You’re pretty amazing yourself. Although I intended to gut you when I found out you knew Montana was alive and kept the knowledge from me.”

He winces. “I did it to protect you. Montana is the biggest asshole I’ve ever met. Unworthy of you. I thought if you found out he was still alive, you’d end up right back where you were. Selling yourself because he wanted you to.”

“I probably would have,” I admit on an embarrassed swallow. “I never knew how he felt…I never suspected.”

“It’s his loss, not yours,” Kiln responds. “I’ll bet you anything he’ll regret his words one day.”

“If Outlaw lets him live,” I say glumly.

“As long as the asshole behaves, Outlaw won’t harm him.” Kiln rests against his pillows. “Enough about Montana. I want to know what changed your mind about gutting me.”

The image of seeing his body laying still and bloody rises in my head, and I tremble. “I thought I’d lost you. I thought you were dead. And, suddenly, it didn’t matter that you’d kept that knowledge to yourself. You were wrong, yes, but all that was important is you being okay.” I lean over and kiss him again. “I was so scared.”

“I’m not going anywhere, sweetheart,” Kiln swears. “Not for a long time.”

  “Do you promise?”

He nods. “I foresee a bright and happy future for us.”

“You do?” I whisper, a warm glow starting in my belly.

“When I met you, I wasn’t in a good place. I wasn’t looking for a relationship. Didn’t think I was worthy to have one. But you were a little whirlwind that turned my life upside down. I’m the luckiest man alive to have met you. To call you mine.”

At his sweet words, my insides melt and my heart overflows. “I love you,” I admit. “It might be too soon for you to feel that way about me, but I don’t care. I think you’re amazing.” I plant kisses along his jawline. “Romantic.” I give him another kiss. “Sexy.” Another. “A wonderful lover. Protective. Handsome.” Two more. “You’re everything.”

“Tell me something,” he says between devouring my mouth, nipping my neck, and licking my ear.

“Something,” I murmur, ignoring the aches from being bent over the bedrails to make out with him.

  “Smart ass.”

I grin against his lips, then pull away and straighten. “What do you want to know?”

“I have to live with the fact that your name is Raine Storm.”

“How do you think I feel?”

“Right.” He lifts a brow. “What the hell’s your middle name?”

“Oh. Yeah. I never did tell you, huh?”

  “No.”

Chewing my lips, I consider if I should open this can of worms and totally humiliate myself. “Love is blind, you know,” I start, then squint. “Although you haven’t said you love me.”

  “Are you fishing?”

  “Are you avoiding?”

“Is this really going to turn into an argument?”

“That’s our foreplay,” I say with a sniff.

  “Your middle name, Raine.”

He shifts in the bed and I decide to lower the railing and sit on the edge. I want to lean against him, but I don’t, not wanting to disturb anything.

“By the way, I love you,” he says casually. “Now, speak or forever hold your peace.”

  “You love me?” I gasp.

  “Middle name.”

“What a fucking minute, you can’t make that announcement and then brush it off.”

“As soon as I heal, I’m going to spend hours telling you how much I love you. Showing you what a lucky man I am. First, I’m going to give you a massage. Then, we can splash around in a Jacuzzi bath. Afterwards, I’ll eat your cunt for an hour or two, then fuck you all night.”

Heat rushes to my pussy and I squirm, flicking a finger over my tightening nipples, on the verge of removing my top and bra.

  “What’s your middle name, sweetheart?”

I purse my lips and sidle a glance at him. “Are you sure you won’t laugh?”

  “Positive.”

  “Will you believe me?”

“If you say it, then I’ll take it as the truth.”

  “It’s Spring,” I say on a sigh.

His eyes widen, then narrow. “No fucking way. Your name…no…fuck no…Raine Spring Storm?”

  “That’s me,” I say lightly.

We stare at each other, then burst into laughter.

He grabs me and kisses me again. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Raine Spring Storm.”

I smile at him. “The pleasure is all mine, Kiln Mason.”

His eyes soften. “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and I want to spend the rest of my life proving it to you.”

“I certainly won’t argue with that,” I whisper.

I intend to spend the rest of my life showing him all that he means to me.

  Epilogue

  Three months later

I can’t believe I’ve reached this peaceful place in my life, in a temporary building on Sloane’s lawn, at my wedding reception, listening as Sloane gives his speech. Children weave through the crowd, their happy laughter rising above all the other noises. Hundreds of flowers and tea lights decorate the place.

Raine chose coral and white as our wedding colors. She wore a designer, coral-colored lace gown, and insisted my groomsmen and I wear white tuxedos. Sloane was my best man, so she asked Jaeger to walk her down the aisle.

She said all I needed to do was show up to rehearsals—and on our big day of course—and she’d take care of the rest. With help from Georgiana, of course, who ended up being the matron of honor.

Together, they invited Megan Caldwell and some of the other old ladies to be bridesmaids. Which, in turn, meant Outlaw and other members of the Death Dwellers were also involved.

Laughter snaps me out of my revelry and I focus on the podium in time to see Sloane clap Outlaw on the back and step aside so he can take the mic.

“Yo,” he starts, winking at Megan, who shakes her head in return.

  I go on alert.

“Motherfucker finally gave the fuck into what it mean to pussify himself to one young bitch.”

“Ohhhhh, MegAnn, Law say motherfucker,” CJ calls, his father’s mini-me, dressed in white tuxedo pants, with coral cummerbund and necktie, and a cut with Little Man on it. “Law say fuck pussify bitch, too, Mommie.”

“You gonna make your ma mad at me, boy,” Outlaw chastises. “She ain’t fuckin’ deaf. She heard what the fuck I say.”

Megan groans amidst all the laughter.

CJ stares at his father, then narrows his eyes and points to him. “OHHHHHHH,” he screeches louder. “MEGANN! Law say fuck.”

“Your lil’ ass sayin’ it too,” Outlaw snaps. “Lemme fuckin’ finish toastin’ this motherfucker, then me and you talkin’.”

  “‘Kay, Law,” CJ agrees, grinning.

“Mama! CJ said fuck! Can I say pussify fuck, too?” Rory, Johnnie’s son, asks Kendall.

“Absolutely not!” she replies. “You don’t talk like them. Remember?”

“I do!” he insists. “I love CJ.”

  “Don’t worry, Ro,” CJ
replies. “Say fuck when Aunt Kendall away. That’s what Uncle Johnnie does. ‘Law let me say fuck when MegAnn gone.”

“Fuuuuccckkk,” Outlaw says on a groan. “Just for openin’ your mouth, ain’t ever lettin’ you do it a-fuckin-gain. My ass gonna end up with a pussy lockout.”

“Oh my God! Christopher,” Megan yells.

“What’s a pussy lockout, Mommie?” Rebel, Outlaw and Megan’s daughter asks.

“Momma says it’s when a bad kitty cat can’t come in the house no more,” Ryan, Val’s son, explains gravely.

“We don’t have a kitty cat,” Rebel responds with a frown.

Raine guffaws, exquisite in her bridal finery. The gown consists of more than lace but I don’t know what the fuck it is, so I just decide it’s delicate and pretty.

Kendall glares at Johnnie, who calmly drinks a beer.

“Not one fuckin’ more word,” Outlaw growls. “From no-fuckin-body til my ass fuckin’ finished with this motherfuckin’ toast to this motherfucker.”

“We listening, Prez,” Mortician tells him.

“Where was I at? Oh, yeah.” Outlaw raises his bottle of rum. “Your young bitch woulda made it im-fuckin-possible for him to get pussy cuz he wouldna had no more dick if he fucked the fuck over her. Be happy, assfuck.” He drinks and everyone follows suit. “Raine, babe, if this motherfucker ever fuck over you just call my ass and Ima straighten him the fuck out.”

Although I hear a few embarrassed ohhhs, everyone laughs. As do I. We all know Outlaw. He pulls no punches and minces no words.

“Thanks, Outlaw,” I call with a chuckle as Mortician takes Outlaw’s place.

“Kiln, brother,” he starts, “young pussy get you every fucking time.” He throws a kiss to his wife, Bailey. “That shit potent.” He turns to Raine. “Rusty, I’m not even worried about you needing Outlaw. Kiln not stupid enough to ruin the best thing that ever happened to him.”

Val comes next and keeps it simple. “Cheers, motherfucker. Raine, I got you a knife as a wedding present. It has a cock for a handle.”

“You weren’t supposed to tell her,” his wife, Zoann, complains.

  “I wasn’t?” Val asks with a frown.

“No, dumb ass,” Digger says with a laugh. “You wasn’t.”

Raine is in stitches. I can’t help but chuckle as the antics continue throughout our many toasts. Finally, I stand and start my responses to the toasts by addressing Outlaw.

“Outlaw,” I begin. “You’re a man after my own heart. Literally.”

Those who know what I mean, laugh.

“Thank you for allowing it to remain in my chest.”

  More laughter.

“I’m grateful to know you. Without you, this day in my life, wouldn’t have come. You helped me to see the error of my ways. In turn, I got Raine.” I glance at her and raise my champagne glass. “To you, my love.”

She rewards me with a dazzling smile and watery eyes.

My joy at making Raine legally mine is barely containable. For the first time ever, I’m truly happy and at peace.

I’m officially Mrs. Raine Spring Mason.

I’m a MASON! Like in Sloane and Georgie Mason. Mainly, though, like in Kiln Mason. He came to my rescue when I needed it most. In turn, I helped save him. We are each other’s salvation.

And me? I’m Kiln’s wife! He’s the only man I have ever and will ever love.

He’s my lover. My husband. My Kiln.
