by Blaire Wynters

When we get inside, I notice a dark haired girl named River that I recognize from school. I knew her boyfriend was part of the Vipers, but I didn’t realize she was, too. She doesn’t bat an eye as Killian drags me behind him into the kitchen.

“Ava!” Desiree calls when we enter. I realize she’s bound in a kitchen chair with a belt securing her arms behind her back. Kai is leaning against the kitchen counter and appraises me with disgust. Killian pushes me into a chair next to Desiree and my stomach flips when he rips his belt off from around his hips.

“Are you okay?” I ask her as Killian secures my arms behind my back and Kai approaches us.

“Don’t fucking speak until you’re told,” Kai snaps at me and, out of habit, I immediately look at Killian. “He won’t help you this time, Ava.”

“Enough.” Killian cuts in, yanking me by the shoulders to turn my chair toward him. “How the fuck do you know this bitch?” He nods his head toward Desiree.

  Desiree

“I don’t know her, Killian. I’ve already told you this. Ms. Haynes asked me to show her around on the first day. Neither of us know each other,” Ava says, irritation lacing her tone.

“And I can’t believe a goddamn word that comes out of your mouth,” Killian seethes through clenched teeth.

“Why do you have such a fucking stick up your ass, Killian?” I spit the words at him. “Why are you guys giving me so much power? What exactly do you think I’m capable of?” My chest heaves and my body is hot all over with the height of my anger. It feels like there’s a balloon inside my chest and it’s about to pop.

Killian gives me a death glare and I give him one right back. “Oh if only looks could actually kill,” I say. “Just put me out of my fucking misery already.”

“Kai, get this bitch under control before I really do fucking kill her,” Killian says, voice vibrating with fury.

“You won’t fucking touch her,” Kai warns, his voice lethal.

“You act like I’ve given you a reason not to trust me or something, Killian,” Ava suddenly says shakily. Everyone’s eyes turn to her.

I hear the sadness in her voice and for a moment I think I see sadness flicker in Killian’s eyes as well. But then it's once again replaced with his stone cold rage. Kai places his arm against Killian’s chest when he acts like a feral dog about to attack. Ava’s eyes widen in horror.

“Don't ever act like you don’t know what you fucking did.” Killian's voice is so low and crazed that it feels like the room actually dropped in temperature.

  But I’ve had enough.

“Fuck you!” I explode, making everyone in the room flinch. “My mom just fucking died and you have the audacity to tie me to a chair?”

Something flashes in Kai’s eyes before they turn cold and emotionless once more. He crosses his arms, his stance wide like he’s ready for a fight. “Why did Anderson send you here?” he asks.

“What?” I ask through gritted teeth. “I don’t even know a guy named Anderson, you idiot.”

Kai’s fists clench and I see his nostrils flare as if he’s counting in his head to stop from throttling me.

“Chad fucking Anderson,” Is all he says.

I pause, my insides turning to ice. “What the fuck does Chad have to do with this?” I say, my voice a low, angry rasp.

Kai growls and gets up in my face. “Everything,” he seethes.

  “Let me fucking go, Kai.”

“Why are you here, Desiree?” He ignores me. “We just found your mom dead in her house. You better start talking now.”

My chest heaves with a red-hot all consuming anger. I feel tears burn in the back of my throat. “How dare you throw that in my face. You’re evil, Kai. Fucking evil.”

Our breaths fan each other's faces as we argue. Kai’s intense eyes are filled with fury, and I’m sure mine look the same.

“You’ll be next if you don’t let me go,” I whisper. “It’s my father. I’m a liability if I stay here. He will come for me.”

His eyes scan my face for any deceit, then he backs away from me with a heavy sigh. He turns his back on all of us and I watch his knuckles clench and unclench. It’s as if he’s angry with me, but he’s holding back. Which is ridiculous. Kai Pierce doesn’t tame himself down for anyone, especially not me.

And even if he were doing that, it wouldn’t matter. He’s nothing but an asshole. All he cares about is his gang and intimidating people. He needs control like an angry king sitting on top of his throne, and he leads with an iron fist.

For a moment, my anger simmers and I think of my mom.

I can’t believe she's dead. Tears fill my eyes as I think about her lifeless body lying on the floor. The saddest part is we were never really close, and now I’m left wondering what could have been. I’m mourning for the mother I never had.

A girl with dark hair walks in that I recognize. I think her name is River? She sits at Kai and Killian’s table with her boyfriend.

She’s holding a bottle of water. “Kai, relax, would ya? The girl's mom just died.”

She smiles at me showing a row of straight white teeth. “I thought you might want something to drink.”

“Fuck off, River,” Kai says, but not much heat is in his tone.

She ignores him. “Um, you’re going to have to untie her so she can take a drink.”

He glares at her, but clenches his jaw and starts untying me. Killian does the same with Ava, and then he grabs her arm and leads her up a massive staircase.

I wince when the belt leaves my skin, and grab the bottle of water. I unscrew the cap, taking a sip.

  “Thank you,” I say grudgingly.

  She smiles. “You’re welcome.”

  “Leave us,” Kai says.

“What's the magic word?” she sing-songs.

  “Now,” he growls.

She rolls her eyes but leaves.

Kai grabs my arm. “We’re going to my room,” he says gruffly.

“Oh, yippee. Just what I wanted to do,” I snip.

I stare around his gigantic house as we walk up the stairs. Everything is modern, neutral colors. There are no personal pictures at all.

“Where are your parents?” I ask.

  “Dead,” is his answer.

  Oooookay.

“I would say sorry for your loss, but considering my own mother just died and then you tied me to a chair, I think I’ll pass.”

Kai takes a sharp turn and pulls me into a bedroom—probably his if I had to guess—and shoves me against the wall.

“Do you ever stop talking?” he asks, raising his hand, and I flinch.

He pauses, cocking his head to the side. I feel my cheeks heat in mortification when he just runs his hand through his hair.

“I thought you wanted me to talk,” I tell him in a shaky voice, pretending that didn’t just happen.

“I want you to tell me everything you know about Chad,” he says.

“There’s not much to tell. We only dated briefly, and now he won’t leave me alone.”

His eyes scan my face again, and I feel my heartbeat quicken. Even though I’m telling the truth he'll think I’m lying, all because he makes me nervous. My emotions are all over the place right now.

His lip curls over his top lip. “Dated, huh? And he just let you go? I don’t believe that.”

“Surprise, surprise. The big, bad Kai Pierce doesn’t believe what I have to say. Shocking.” I roll my eyes.

“Why the fuck are you so mouthy?” he asks.

“Why the fuck are you such an idiot?” I mock right back.

I regret the words as soon as they’re out of my mouth. His hand is immediately at my throat, squeezing just enough that I feel that tell-tale panic creeping up in my mind.

“I—I need to breathe,” I gasp, and Kai smiles.

He pulls away from me, pulling his phone out and pressing a few buttons before placing it back in his pocket.

My chest heaves, taking in greedy gulps o
f air.

Kai’s eyes trace over my face, and I feel it as if it’s a physical touch. “One day you’ll learn to watch that mouth.”

I glare at him, wishing so bad I could tackle him and come out the winner, though I know that’s highly unlikely.

“You’re not to leave this room unless I give you permission,” he says.

I scowl. “What if I have to pee?”

He nods his head to the side. “There’s the bathroom.”

I look over and see his en-suite bathroom. Of course. Fucking spoiled rich boy.

“My dad will come and slit our throats in the middle of the night,” I say nonchalantly as if I’m not scared shitless.

“He can fucking try,” Kai says, pulling out a pair of brass knuckles from his pocket and putting them on his hand.

I roll my eyes. “Wow, that’ll stop him.”

Kai gives me his signature evil smirk. “I love how much confidence you have in me, love.”

For some reason, my stomach dips when he calls me love.

Suddenly, there’s a knock on the door.

  “Come in,” Kai says.

In comes River again, carrying a tray of delicious smelling food and causing my stomach to growl.

She sets it down on the nightstand next to Kai’s king sized bed and gives me a small smile and Kai a mock salute before leaving.

  “Eat,” Kai demands.

“I’m not hungry,” I mumble because I don’t want to give in to his every demand. But he sees right through it.

“Eat,” is all he says again, and when we just stare one another down, I see his light eyes darken before he stomps over to me and grabs my arm. He drags me to his bed, and then sets the tray on my lap.

“I won’t tell you again.” His voice is a low rumble, then he licks his lips, his eyes scanning me up and down. “You’re going to need your strength for what I have in store for you, love.”

  “What is this, boot camp?”

“In a way,” he says, leaning against the wall and watches me the way a wolf would a rabbit. He fingers the brass knuckles in his hand and somehow manages to make it look seductive.

I swallow hard and look away, but I hear him as he walks closer to me.

He grabs my jaw forcefully. “Open,” he demands.

He squeezes tighter, making me open on instinct, and then fills a spoon full of soup and puts it in my mouth.

He closes my lips and tilts my head back. “Swallow,” he demands.

I glare at him with angry eyes but have no choice but to obey.

This close to him and I see just how hypnotizing his eyes are and I have to force myself from reacting to his scent as it envelops me.

“Again,” he says and repeats the action, feeding me once more.

We do this a few times until I actually am feeling better and satisfied.

He splays his palm on my chest and pushes me down so I’m laying on the bed.

“What are you doing?” I ask, although we both know what he’s doing. “I don’t want this, Kai.”

  “Too fucking bad,” he replies.

He yanks my pants down. “This will take the edge off, love.” He smirks while he says this, but there’s an underlying sadness in his eyes as if he knows how I feel. Which is silly. Kai fucking Pierce is not empathetic.

His fingers play with the waistline of my pants making chills erupt all over my body before he pulls them down slowly.

He brings up his fist, brass knuckles covering his fingers. “You mocked me earlier for this,” he says, gesturing to the brass knuckles. “I'm going to make you regret it now, love.”

He glides the cold steel down my stomach before it reaches the apex of my thighs.

“Ya know, for someone who doesn’t want me, your pussy sure is soaked,” he says huskily.

“Fuck you,” I say breathily yet trying to keep my composure.

“I plan to do that with you, love,” he says darkly.

He slides the knuckles between my pissy lips so, so slowly.

I can’t help but spread my thighs, seeking more of his touch, and hating myself every second of it.

He gives his signature dark chuckle. “That’s fucking right.”

The cool metal slides between my wetness back and forth until I start to squirm. Then Kai starts circling my clit while sliding a finger in the entrance of my sex.

  “Oh fuck,” I cry out.

My hips buck against his fist.

“One wrong move,” he rasps, “and I could hurt you.”

“Why do you want to hurt me so bad?” I whisper, trying not to lose myself in sensation.

“Because you deserve it,” he growls, a terrifying glint entering his eyes as he applies more pressure to my pussy.

I bite my lip hard, closing my eyes. I’m clenching and unclenching around his finger, but I feel my climax coming. It’s right there...so close.

  But then he stops.

  I whimper. “No.”

My eyes pop open while my chest rises and falls rapidly. There’s that same evil glint still in Kai’s eyes as he lifts the brass knuckles and licks my juices off of them.

“Just remember, Desiree. I can inflict pain just as quickly as pleasure.”

Then his hands are on me again. Harder this time. The circles in my clit are so precise and fast it barely feels different than my vibrator.

I scream, my head thrashing back and forth as my orgasm rips through me so violently.

“These brass knuckles better be good luck now all coated in you,” Kai says.

I watch him with my chest still heaving.

“Next time, I won’t let you come unless you answer my questions.” His voice is hard and intimidating causing me to immediately stiffen. I hate when men use that tone with me.

“What do you think I know?” I ask. “I’m not some sort of undercover spy, Kai. I’m literally barely even an adult. There’s nothing special about me or any info that could possibly be important for you,” I tell him honestly.

His eyes bore into mine and it’s terrifying. It’s not possible, but it feels as if he's a mind reader and has opened up my entire past and knows all.

“That’s for me to decide, love,” he says, smiling and patting me on the leg.

He opens his night stand drawer and pulls out a pair of handcuffs, then cuffs me to his bed where I just had probably the best orgasm of my life.

I’m still soaked as I sit on his bed with no pants on.

His eyes trace my body and he clenches his jaw before stalking to the door and opening it. Just as he’s about to close it, he turns back to me.

“When I come back it’ll be my turn.”

  Ava

I wake up to Killian unlocking the cuffs that shackle me to his bed. He doesn’t say a word, but I can tell by the way he avoids looking me in the eye that something is bothering him. I resist the urge to ask him what has him scowling because that’s not my place anymore.

“Shower and then meet me downstairs.” His voice is hard, clipped, and I don’t know what I could have possibly done to irritate him while I was sleeping. His fingers wrap around my wrist and he drags me behind him as he stomps toward the bathroom connected to his bedroom. “Don’t try anything fucking stupid. You won’t get far if you try to run.” He nudges me inside the bathroom, but stands in the doorway looking at me expectantly.

“You don’t know me at all if you think I’d try to outrun you and Kai.” I lift my shirt over my head, leaving me in just my panties. His eyes flash to my bare breasts and a small part of me is elated that he doesn’t have the willpower to keep his eyes on mine even when he hates me with almost every bone in his body.

“I never really knew you,” he says as his eyes reach mine. Abruptly, he pulls the door shut and I’m left to shower and figure out what I’m going to do. My only means of escape is school when he can’t watch me every second of the day. Where will I go? Do I even want to leave? I’m more conflicted the more time I spend with him. The more
he shows me snippets of the boy I used to know, the harder it is to do what I know I should.

I shower quickly because I don’t want to be late for school or make Killian more irritated than he already is. I’m surprised when I step out of the shower to see that he’s left clothes on the bathroom counter. Black lacy panties and a matching bra in my size with the tags still attached. I rub my fingers over the pink dress with butterfly sleeves and wonder if he picked it out. It’s my favorite color and he knows that. I shake my head. He probably told River to get me something, and even if he did go out of his way to find something in my style and my favorite color, it doesn’t change anything.

I quickly dress and check my reflection. Perfect fit. I decide to plait my hair in two French braids so that when I take it out, it’ll be wavy. I don’t have any of my make-up, so this is about as good as it’s going to get.

When I get downstairs, I don’t see anyone except for River. She’s heading to the basement door with stacks of cash in her hands.

“Killian said to meet him downstairs. Do you know where he is?” I try to keep my voice even. I need to come across as less of a captive and more as a guest.

“Probably in the basement. Some of the guys are still up playing cards.” I don’t know what time it is, but I assume they don’t keep regular hours if they’re out stealing cars and dealing during the night. I realize that she must be getting ready to count whatever the Vipers made last night.

When we get in the basement I see a couple of guys playing cards at a table, smoking cigars. I look around for any sign of Killian or Desiree, but find neither of them.

River starts counting large stacks of money that I know probably came from drug deals, stolen cars, street races, or underground fighting. It shouldn’t be thrilling, but it is. I miss the adrenaline of going with Killian when he would race. I miss driving him to lift a car and having to haul ass, staying as close behind his car as possible as we outrun the police.

  I miss him.

“He was right,” River says, not looking up from the shuffling money passing from one hand to the other.
