“Dom…” Amy looks up at me with tears in her eyes. “Dom, I’m really worried about you.”

  “What do you mean?”

  “Lyle can’t be trusted.”

  “I know, but…”

“Things are getting more crazy by the day, and I just... I’m afraid of what might happen.”

I take her into my arms.

  “It’s okay.”

  “I don’t know…”

It feels so good to hold her close. This woman really cares for me. She not rejecting me, she’s worried for my safety. It’s a relief and a turn-on at the same time. I want to make love to her right on the mousy brown floor of the Tomahawk Public Library.

I smooth Amy’s blonde hair. She calms down a bit.

“How about this... You lock up and we’ll head over to your place before the food gets cold. We’ll come up with a game plan. Okay?”

  “Okay.”

I hang around the lobby. My heart is beating fast. There’s something about Amy that pulls me in. I also think about how concerned she is. I don’t want her to worry. I want to tell her everything will be okay, but how can I be sure?

A few minutes later, Amy and I walk into her house. I glance at the couch and think about the kiss we shared. The memory makes blood rush to my cock. It’s throbbing in my jeans. I want her really bad, I’m not sure how much longer I can hold out.

She smiles wide and points to the food.

  “This was nice of you.”

“I figured I would return the favor. That breakfast you cooked was something special.”

“You’re not just saying that, are you?”

“I’m not the kind of guy who says things just to say things.”

  “Really?”

  “That’s never been my M.O.”

“I’ll be the judge of that.”

She looks at me with such passion in her eyes that I almost forget how hungry I am.

  “What’d you get?”

“The grilled chicken special. Hope you like it.”

  “Sure.”

“You’re not just saying that, are you?”

“I’m not the kind of girl who says things just to say things.”

I smile as we sit down on the couch. We lock eyes for a moment. I’m dying to kiss her and do so much more. Amy is irresistible. She reaches around me with her delicate hands and takes the food out of the bag.

I take in her graceful motions, the curves of her slender body and the way her hair falls into her face. I’ve known her for years – she’s Abel’s sister after all – but it’s almost like I’m seeing her for the first time. Amy is etched into my mind and my cock. I’m super hard now. I wonder if she notices.

She takes a bite of food.

  “Mmm! This is good.”

  “Glad you like it.”

  I eat a little.

  “I meant what I said.”

  “About what?”

“I think you should leave town.”

“I can’t let Lyle scare me off.”

  “But what if…”

  “Amy? What is it?”

“He’s gonna pin all of this on you. Beth. The other women too. They all looked like her.”

  I pause.

“Dom, just hear me out for a second. It’s too dangerous for you to stay around here. If you leave for a while, wait till things blow over, then maybe... maybe you can stay out of trouble.”

“But I’ve never been one to run and hide. And, most of all, I didn’t do anything wrong.”

She looks deep into my eyes.

“When I was with Beth, I loved her so much. I wanted a life with her. I would never…”

“I know. Back at the library, the way you took me into your arms, the way you held me… I just couldn’t imagine you ever hurting anyone. You made me feel safe.”

“I always want you to feel safe, Amy. That’s one of the reasons why I’m keeping an eye on you. If I leave, there’s no telling what Lyle might do. Besides, it’ll make me look guilty as hell.”

  She takes a deep breath.

“None of this is easy,” I go on. “But I have to face it. Running away just isn’t an option.”

“You won’t have to face it alone.”

“Thanks. You don’t know what that means to me.”

“Sometimes I wonder if I’m crazy.”

  “What makes you say that?”

“No offense, but someone like you... A lot of women would be suspicious. But when I look in your eyes, I feel I can trust you.”

  “Of course, you can, Amy.”

“I know. I went to see Abel today.”

“Did you tell him about us?”

“Of course not. But I found out that Lyle is fixated on this case. He’s out to get you, Dom. I just know it.”

“Yeah but I’m not afraid of him.”

  “What are you afraid of?”

“I don’t know. I try not to operate from a place of fear. After what happened with Beth, everything changed for me. I had my whole life planned out with her, and suddenly she was gone. It hurt so bad. I wasn’t sure how I could ever move on. But one day, I got to thinking about how maybe it’s a mistake to plan your life out to the letter. Maybe the key to it all is living in the moment.”

  “You think so?”

  I nod.

“Living in the moment can be a little scary, a little unpredictable.”

“Yeah, but it just feels right. Doesn’t it?”

  “It depends…”

Before she can get out another word, I lean in and steal a kiss. Her lips feel amazing pressed against mine. She kisses me back with so much passion that I feel like I might cum right in my jeans.

I run my fingers through her hair and caress her face. She moans a little. I can tell she’s loving it as much as me. She rubs her soft hands all over my chest and back. No woman has ever turned me on this much.

I climb on top of Amy, never pulling away from our kiss. My hands are all over her body, those perky tits, her flat stomach, and soft thighs. She’s touching me and pulling me in closer.

I can’t believe this is about to happen. My dick is rock hard. I close my eyes, imagining how good it will feel to be deep inside Amy. I kiss her slender neck and work my way down to her tits.

  Bang! Bang! Bang!

Someone is pounding on the door, but I don’t want to stop.

  Bang! Bang! Bang!

  Amy slowly pulls away.

“Let me see who it is. I’ll be right back.”

I watch her tight ass as she walks away. I’m craving her. I sit on the couch, feeling like a meth addict going through withdrawal symptoms. I just can’t get enough of her.

  Chapter Nine

  Amy

Dominic watches me as I walk to the door. I glance back at him on the couch. Damn, he looks so sexy. My panties are still moist from the passionate kiss we just shared.

I keep telling myself over and over again that he’s trouble, but I just can’t get him out of my system. All day at work, I thought of him, and much to my surprise he showed up as I was closing up the library with takeout dinner for two. A sweet gesture.

Every time we’re around each other, he opens up to me more and more. The way he talks about Beth, I can tell it’s not an act. He really cared deeply for her. It might defy all logic, but I actually trust Dominic. The way he took me into his arms, I just felt safe and warm. The truth is, I never want him to let me go.

I take a deep breath and open my door. I’m going to be pissed if it’s a door-to-door salesman. A few seconds later, I’m face to face with Lyle. He’s wearing his uniform. He flashes that bright smile that fooled me once. I try not to think about that vulnerable time in my life, after Adam died. If I could go back in time, I never would have fallen for Lyle’s charms.

  “What is it?”

“I’m just checking in to see if you’re safe.”

  “I’m fine.”

  “You sure?”

  “Of course.”

  “
I’m just worried about you. That’s all. There’s something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about.”

  “What?”

“I think I should put you in protective custody.”

  “But…”

  Dominic approaches the door.

  “Is everything alright?”

Lyle reaches for his gun holster when he sees Dominic standing behind me.

  I glare at Lyle.

  “Stop it!”

  Lyle frowns.

  “Why is Dom here?”

  Dom approaches Lyle.

“It’s none of your damn business why I’m here.”

  Lyle looks at me.

“I told you. It’s not safe for you to be around him.”

“Not safe to be around me?” Dominic laughs. “That’s rich, coming from you.”

“Seriously, Amy. You need to be careful. Remember what happened to his last girlfriend.”

“Her name was Beth. And I would never hurt her.”

“That’s what all the guilty men say.”

“Me? Guilty? How the hell did you know about that scar on her thigh?”

  “Fuck you!”

  “Right back at ya, ass-wipe!”

There is a long pause. I’m afraid of what might happen next. I don’t want things to escalate. Just then, Lyle reaches for his gun. I step between the men.

“Cut it out, both of you.”

“Amy, I’m only trying to protect you.”

“I don’t need your fucking protection. I’m perfectly capable of looking after myself!”

  “But…”

“As a matter of fact, if you don’t leave this minute, I’m calling the police on you!”

  “Amy, please…”

  “Just go!”

Lyle looks at me for a moment. Then, he turns to walk away.

I’m glad I diffused the situation, but I know it’s not over. With a devil like Lyle, it’s just beginning.

Dominic rubs my shoulders as Lyle drives away in his cruiser.

  “You told him.”

“I’m not gonna let him bully me.”

“I can see that. To be honest, I thought that…”

  “What?”

“I guess I had the wrong idea about you. I looked at you as this super smart librarian, a little passive even.”

  “Really?”

“But you really know how to handle your own. Lyle was scared shitless.”

  I smile a little.

“I can be tough when I need to be.”

  “That’s a good thing.”

“And I may have been wrong about you too.”

  “Really?”

“When Lyle came to the library and asked me to pull up those articles about Beth and the other women who disappeared... I’m not gonna lie, I was a little suspicious.”

  He frowns.

“But now I know the truth. You had nothing to do with her disappearance.”

“It makes me feel good to know that you believe me.”

“Yeah, but the hardest part is proving your innocence.”

  “True.”

“I don’t even know where to start.”

“Me neither, but I’m sure we can figure it out. Together.”

“I hope you’re right. You talked about the way Lyle looked at me, but what about the way he looked at you. I can tell the man hates your guts.”

“Yeah, the feeling is more than mutual. I never liked the guy. When Beth went missing, it’s almost like he went out of his way to let the case go cold.”

“Well, it won’t be cold for long.”

“You know what really pisses me off? He was out there, doing press conferences in front of the cameras, but he never did any real police work. Abel told me what was going on behind the scenes. It’s so fucked up. I guess that’s when I realized I might never find out what happened to her.”

“Why do you think Lyle let the case go cold?”

“It never made sense to me.”

  “We’re gonna find out.”

  “That’s all I want.”

“It’s the only way to clear your name.”

“I know. Every time I walk around town, I feel like people are staring at me. They’re wondering if I had something to do with it. I’ve lived under this cloud for a long time, and I’m sick of it, you know?”

“I can’t imagine how it feels, Dom.”

“Hopefully, you’ll never have to go through anything like this.”

  He pauses.

“Wait. You’re calling me ‘Dom’ now?”

“I still like ‘Dominic’ better, but… why not.”

“I like when you call me ‘Dom’.”

  “Really?”

He flashes a flirtatious smile. There’s so much I want to say, and I am longing to kiss him again. But after the way Lyle interrupted the mood, I’m not sure what to do. I take a deep breath and look deeply into his eyes. I want to help him, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes.

  ***

I sit behind the desk as Maddison approaches with an empty cart. It’s been a slow day at the library, but I am not complaining – for once. It’s nice to have a little peace and quiet after all of the drama with Dominic and Lyle.

Maddison smiles a little and runs her fingers through her dyed purple hair. She’s trying a new look. I like it. She’s such a rebel. I wish I could have been as experimental as she is when I was in college, but I was way too focused on my studies to get wild with hair color.

“All done. That about does it for the biography section.”

  “Thanks, Maddison.”

“Don’t mention it. Are you okay?”

  “Yeah. I’m fine.”

“You sure? It seems like your mind is somewhere else.”

I haven’t mentioned a word about what happened to Maddison. I haven’t told anybody. I think it’s for the best if I keep it secret. But in a small town like Tomahawk, secrets are few and far between.

  “I’m okay. Seriously.”

“Alright. You know you can talk to me.”

  “I know.”

Just then, Lyle walks into the library. He’s dressed in uniform. I think back to the night he stopped by unannounced and all hell broke loose between him and Dominic. I want to avoid round two at all cost.

  “Hey.”

  Maddison glares at him.

“Can I talk to you for a second?”

I’m on the verge of losing my patience.

  “About what?”

  “In private?”

I take a deep breath. The thought of talking to him ‘in private’ makes me want to vomit, but I feel like I have no choice but to diffuse the situation once again.

“I’m super busy. I only have a few minutes, tops.”

  “Okay.”

He follows me down the hall. The part about being ‘super’ busy is an exaggeration, but I want to make this quick. Maddison looks over at me, her eyes pleading as if to say, ‘be careful’.

Lyle and I walk into my office. I leave the door open. I’m no idiot. There’s no telling what he might try. I always have to keep my guard up with him. I curse myself for the time when I let it down.

  “Amy, are you seeing Dom?”

  “What?”

“Is there something going on between you two?”

“That’s none of your damn business.”

  He hesitates.

“I know. But I can’t help but... I’m worried about you, Amy. Dom is dangerous. You have to trust me on that.”

“What proof do you have that he’s dangerous?”

“I’ve been watching him for a while, with the investigation and all. What happened to Beth and those other girls... I don’t know what I would do if... I don’t want you to be next.”
