Miko and the Puppy

Miko smiled. Life was good. Happiness wasn't about having grass to run about in, or sunshine to bask in, or tress to climb or birds to catch, it was about having people to love and to be loved by.

By the time Jane and Matt came in, feet sore, the cats and the puppy were curled up on the couch sleeping together. Jane ran over to the puppy and scooped him up. "Oh thank God!" she said holding the puppy close to her and breathing in the new puppy scent.
Matt came up beside Jane, "I told you there was nothing to worry about," he said, massaging the puppy's ears.
Jane laughed and looked at him skeptically, "Is that why you stopped everyone on the sidewalk and insisted they take a missing puppy flier?"
Matt blushed. "Well, the puppy is here, safe and sound, and look ... they're all sleeping together, one big happy family."
The puppy snuggled into Jane's arms, happy that her human was home and that she was safe in her arms.
On the couch, Miko was using Spark as a pillow and Larry had his face buried in Miko's fluffy tail, a look of sheer ecstasy on his face. And you know what? Miko found that she didn't mind. She even kinda liked it.

I've been writing since I was a kid. I've written stories for my wife and my kids and even, occasionally, for myself! My friends encouraged me to share my scribblings with the world but that thought scared me. Then I thought, why not? If my story touches even one person then it will have been worth it.
If you enjoyed my story -- or even if you didn't! -- tell me about it.
