“I would like to see my daughter without making an appointment,” she replies dismissing him.

“There's a reason you have to make an appointment Tina,” Hudson says through gritted teeth. “Martin is still out there, he’s lying low at the moment, but we don’t know when he’s going to attack next or who.” I know that Hudson feels guilt that Martin hurt me, and for him not to be captured yet. Everyone Martin hurts, Hudson feels that deeply.

“You're meant to be protecting my daughter, but ever since she met you all you have done is caused her pain and sadness,” Mom says, and smiles as Hudson flinches.

“No, he hasn't. Since I met Hudson, I finally feel happy and loved,” I tell her, my fingers interlacing with Hudson’s.

“Love?” she scoffs, “there's no such thing as love. Men use and abuse you.” Her eyes glancing at Harrison as she says those words.

“Mom!” I yell. “How can you say those things? Harrison was nothing but sweet to you, he gave you everything you asked for, everything you wanted and you threw it in his face by not accepting his son. You never gave Hudson a chance, you never even tried getting to know him.”

“Mia, it’s fine,” Harrison tells me. “Your mom’s here for an argument and I’m not going to give her the satisfaction, I’ve had enough of her bullshit to last me a lifetime.”

“Tina, it’s time for you to leave,” Hudson tells her and I’m actually proud of both him and Harrison, the way Mom’s talking to them and yet they don’t respond with anger, they’ve so far kept their cool.

“I'm here to see my daughter, not her boyfriend,” Mom’s voice full of disgust.

“Fiancé,” Hudson growls, the sound rattling in his chest.

Mom knows that, I told her the very next day it happened, she never acknowledged me. Mom laughs, “Fiancé? It’s never going to last. Not with a man like you and a girl like her.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Hudson spits out, he’s barely holding onto his anger. Mom’s pushing him too far now.

She rolls her eyes. “What I mean is, Mia is sweet and you’re well…. A criminal. Look at you, you’ve been with fifty women? Probably double that. Whereas my daughter isn’t one of the whores you’re used to. What’s going to happen when you get bored? What’s going to happen to Mia once you do?”

“Tina, it's time for you to leave.” There’s an edge to Harrison’s voice, he gets to his feet and towers over mom.

“No, I won’t leave. I'm finally telling you how it is. Someone is finally standing up to you, you’re not getting away with what you’re doing to my daughter.” Pointing her finger at Hudson, a scowl on her face.

“Mom!” I yell, unable to believe the words coming out of her mouth. I have never seen her so disrespectful, not just toward Hudson and Harrison but to me too. “Just leave, Mom.” I tell her not wanting to be around her right now. I don’t even recognize the woman standing in front of me.

She gets a furrow between her brows. “Mia you can't be serious?”

I place my plate down on the table and I clasp my hands on my lap as I look at her. “Yes, Mom, I am.” I reply. “Mom, you're standing here, being so disrespectful toward everyone. I met Hudson two years ago and he took my breath away. He made me feel something I have never felt before my life. I not only left, I moved to another state, every day for those two years he was all I thought about. He was my biggest regret. Imagine my surprise walking into your wedding celebration and you introducing him to me as my new stepbrother. It was as though fate had brought us back together. What you don’t seem to realize is that every day since your party he has made me feel loved. If I ever have a daughter, I would want someone to make her feel the way that Hudson makes me feel and the fact that you can't see that shows that you don't really give a shit about me. So please, Mom, I’m asking you nicely, please just go.” My voice is shaky, but it had to be said, right now I’m focusing on me, on what makes me happy and that’s Hudson.

  She gasps. “Mia you’re brainwashed.”

Hudson’s had enough. “Tina, you can either leave by yourself or you can be escorted out. Either way your ass is getting out of my house now.”

Harrison grips Mom’s wrist, tugging on it as he leads her out of the house.

“Mia, fucking hell, I’ve never heard someone say something so beautiful”, Jagger says, a stupid grin on his face.

“Shut up,” I grumble, not really in the mood for praise.

“Princess, I love that you think that, but if we have a daughter, I can tell you that no man is ever getting with her,” Hudson tells me putting his arm around me and pulling me into his body.

“No one will ever get the chance to get that close, just as they won’t with Allie.” Jagger smirks.

  “You two can’t be serious?”

“Deadly,” they reply in unison. “Mia, your mom said it, we’re criminals, we’ll kill anyone who hurts our women and children.”

I groan, god help Allie, she’s screwed having Jagger for a dad and Hudson for an uncle, I can envision them killing any potential partners she may have. “I’m going to finish my dinner and then watch a movie. I want to forget about what just happened,” I say, wanting all this shit to be over with.

“I’m up for a movie,” Jagger tells us with a smile, “Lethal weapon?”

I frown, “Don’t you want to go home to Sarah and Allie?”

He sighs. “I do, but they’re not there tonight. They’ve gone to spend the night with Frankie, they’re were at her mom’s today.”

“Oh God I can just imagine how that went.”

He nods. “She said it was okay, her mom seems to have changed.” He doesn’t seem to buy it. “We’ll see what happens, only time will tell.”

“Lethal Weapon?” he asks hopefully and I nod with a smile.

“Like we had any other choice,” Hudson tells him.

“You do have a choice, one, two, three, or four?” Jagger replies with a cheeky smile.

“Which one is Chris Rock in?” I ask, that’s my favorite.

“Four,” they respond together and I’m getting freaked out. “Four is my favorite too.” Hudson tells me, passing me my plate.

I don’t have the heart to tell him that I’ve lost my appetite. Jagger puts the movie on as the room descends in darkness, before the screen lights up. I place my plate back down on the table and bring my feet up onto the sofa and snuggle up against Hudson, it’s not long before I close my eyes and sleep takes over.

Banging breaks through my sleep, causing me to wake with a start. My hand reaches out and connects with Hudson’s bare chest. There’s that banging noise again, my hand shakes Hudson’s body and he groans, “Hudson.” I call, shaking him once again.

“Princess, what’s wrong?” He asks as his eyes pop open.

“Someone’s banging on the door,” I tell him and he immediately jumps out of bed, grabbing his pants and putting them on as he walks to the bedroom door. Swiping his t-shirt off the chair as he walks past it. “I’ll be back in a minute,” he tells me and I nod pulling the sheets up to my neck. I turn to the clock and see that it’s seven in the morning. God, who is calling at this time in the morning?

Hudson returns to the bedroom a couple of minutes later, his expression blank, I can’t read him but I do know that something has happened. “Hudson?” I ask, softly.

He walks over to the bed and sits down beside me. “I’m going to have to leave for a while. Someone’s been shot and I need to go to the hospital to check on them. I won’t be long.”

I nod. “Who is it? Are they going to be okay?”

“We’re not sure yet, it’s touch and go right now. Aaron is going to stay with you while I’m gone. Dad and Jagger aren’t here,” he says and I nod, I’ve met Aaron a few times, he seems nice, he respects Hudson a lot, it shows on his face every time he speaks to him.

“Okay, I hope that everything’s going to be okay,” I tell him, hating that someone else is hurt in this stupid feud.

  He k
isses my head. “Me too, Princess, me too.” He stands and quickly gets dressed, in his usual attire, black suit and a white shirt. “Get dressed, Baby, I don’t want Aaron seeing your gorgeous body.”

I roll my eyes. “I’m hardly going to walk out in my pajamas now am I?” I tell him sarcastically. “I’m going to have a shower and then I’ll make some breakfast. Would he have some?”

Hudson nods. “That man eats more than Jagger. I’ll call you when I’m on my way home.” He places a soft and gentle kiss against my lips. “Love you princess, call me if you need me.”

“Love you too, I’ll see you later,” I tell him as he leaves me in the bedroom.

Moments later, there’s a knock on the door. “Hey Mia, I just wanted to let you know that I’m here and I’ll be in the sitting room if you need anything.” Aaron tells me through the door.

“Hey Aaron, I’m just going to have a shower, then I’ll make us breakfast.”

His stomach growls and I laugh, God, that was loud. “Sounds good. Yell if you need me.”

“Will do,” I tell him and get out of bed and walk into the en-suite bathroom, the room is already illuminated. My nerves kicking in now, I open the cupboard and immediately spot the bag I have hidden here. My stomach begins to flip, I can’t even think about it right now, I just need to do it.

My hand shakily picks up the bag, pulling out the box, a tear slowly slides down my face. God, this can’t be happening but I googled all the symptoms I had and every one is a symptom of pregnancy. The fatigue, the bloating, the nausea, the heartburn, the sensitive nipples, and crying for no reason. I don’t want it to be true, but everything points to it, not to mention, I can’t remember the last time I had a period.

Sitting on the toilet, I read the instructions, wanting to make sure I do it properly. I think I read them five times before I finally have the courage to take the test. Once I do, I leave the test on the sink and wait. I put a timer on my phone and set it for three minutes.

Those three minutes are the longest of my life all I do is stare at the time as it slowly goes down. Minute by minute my tears still fall, what if it’s positive? What am I going to do? I really haven’t let myself think about it before now, I was really wishing that what I have been feeling was due to stress, but when I realized I hadn’t had a period in a while I knew I had to get a test to be on the safe side.

Beep, beep, beep, beep. My alarm goes off, and my heart leaps into my mouth. Placing my phone down I pick up the stick. Glancing at the little window, those two pink lines so clear to see. My mind can’t quite comprehend what I’m seeing, reaching for the box, I read the instructions again. I scan the instructions, trying to see where it says what two pink lines mean. Throwing the box down, I quickly stand and turn around, lifting the lid to the toilet just in time to throw up.

I can’t stop, I retch and dry heave, the enormity of what that test means.

  I’m pregnant.

The tears fall as I sit on the floor and pull my knees to my chest and sob, I’m pregnant and I have no idea who the father is.

My baby could be the product of love, or the product of rape
