- Sure! - Alec nodded. - Remember our conversation. Be honest and don't omit anything. I trusted myself and everything will be fine.
Alec said when she passed Aila. The way he talked to her and Aila smiled back, made me frown. She nodded with a sigh. Her expression was apprehensive and Aila seemed to fight something inside her.
- Try not to be so hard on her. - asked Alec when he passed us. - Aila has suffered enough, so please try to understand.
Without understanding, Aideen and I just stared at Alec as he left the room with the others. I looked at Aideen, who didn't know what to do or how to act. We stood still, looking at each other with tears in our eyes.
- I don't know how to start! - she said breaking the silence.
- How about the beginning? - he said in an ironic way. Aila smiled at me.
- You haven't lost that debauched way of being. - she said.
- No, and I've been practicing a lot with Bruce.
- He told me about the wedding. - she smiled. - Congratulations! He seems like a great guy and cares a lot about you. In fact, Alistair goes the same way. It makes me very happy and makes every sacrifice I've made worthwhile.

- What sacrifices? - I asked in unison with Aideen.
- The ones I made to keep them alive.
Aideen and I sniffed, staring at each other without understanding Aila's words.
- Can you explain it better? What does pretending to be dead have to do with keeping us alive?
Aila sighed and sat on one of the chairs, then pointed out others that were vacant.
- Why don't you sit down? - she said smiling sadly. - It's a long story!
