Mother Wilhelmina shook her head. This situation was too convoluted for her way of thinking. “And what was the other reason?”
The Great Mage shut his book and put down his pen. “Some day Estrella will ask me if I made Joe fall in love with her. I want to be able to say that I merely gave him a nudge in the right direction.”

“Well,” Mother Wilhelmina said, “I hope the two of them will be as happy as we’ve been together.”
“Yes,” the mage said, kissing her hand. “Your world has been very good to mine. I’m very lucky you wandered into this valley.”
Mother Wilhelmina laughed happily at this compliment. “You’re sweet, Tolliver.” She glanced around the laboratory and sighed. “Now if you could only conjure up a decent cup of coffee.”
