A Promise to Keep

“Do you have rings?”
“We do.” Hayden dug in the pocket of his suit coat. Pulled out the two rings wrapped in soft white flannel. “Close your eyes,” he ordered. “I don’t want you to look until they’re both on.”
She shut her eyes. He maneuvered his ring to the first knuckle of his ring finger, did the same with hers. She pressed her fingertips to his, exploring it. “No cheating,” he said.
“No,” she said. “Definitely no cheating.”
“I didn’t mean... You don’t have to worry—” he began.
“Shh. I know that. Now, finish marrying me so we can get on to the kissing, will you?”
The family laughed. Cameras snapped.
“With this ring, I thee wed.” He pushed her ring to the base of her finger.
“With this ring, I thee wed,” she repeated, doing the same.
“Open your eyes.”
While the judge blathered on, pronouncing them man and wife, Ronni looked down at their entwined hands, at the rings he’d commissioned especially for them.
Narrow gold bands at the top and bottom anchored graceful gold script that circled around their fingers.
Semper fidelis.
“They’re beautiful,” she whispered. “You’re beautiful.”
Not sure if the judge had told them to kiss yet or not, Hayden leaned down to claim his wife’s mouth.
Just like she’d claimed his heart.
Greg & Shannon
Have you read Greg and Shannon’s story, A Hero to Keep?
Sometimes you have to fight for what - for who - you love.
Shannon Vanderhoff’s childhood taught her early on that nothing was hers to keep, not clothes, or toys, or even people. So she lives, loves, and lets go. She’s not looking for a hero.
But with custody of her traumatized six-year-old nephew on the line, she needs help. Charming Greg Hawkins, a comic book artist and art therapist insists he can coax Ryan into speaking again, enabling the boy to reveal what he saw the night of his mother’s death at his father’s hands. And though Shannon’s skeptical of Greg’s methods, there’s no denying that he brings light and color to their lives.
Greg, one of twelve siblings, knows anything worth having is worth fighting for. If anyone can prepare Shannon for the upcoming battle, it’s Greg and his family.
But will she fight to keep him, too?

Susan Gable was born with a book in her hand.
Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but not by much. Her love of books goes back to her preschool days, when books arrived at her house from the Weekly Reader Book Club. Some of them even had records so she could listen to the stories! (Remember records?)
Both of Susan’s parents are voracious readers, and they infected her as well.
Susan shared her love of reading (and Weekly Reader!) as an elementary teacher for ten years, then turned to writing after a year of homeschooling her son caused her to nearly lose what was left of her mind. Writing, it turns out, is cheaper than therapy, and homeschooling is far harder than teaching other people’s kids.
That son is now grown (Susan’s not sure how that happened, as she feels no older than the day she first started writing).
Susan’s books have been Golden Heart and Rita ® Award finalists, been recognized by Romantic Times nominations for Best Superromance of the Year, and she’s won numerous awards, including the National Readers’ Choice Award. She’s been praised by readers and reviewers alike for her ability to tell emotionally compelling stories that make them laugh and cry.
More than a half million copies of her books have been sold worldwide.
