Lock and Load: A Demented Sons MC Texas Novel

I sighed once she was out the door. “This was supposed to be our day. How did we get wrangled into having it here and the women inviting themselves? And when are Mom and Dad supposed to be here to get these three?” I waved at my two youngest and toward the hall that led to the kids’ bedrooms.

  Gunny shrugged. Helpful as always.

Memphis ran and pounced on the loveseat with a giggle, followed by his older sister. He was damn near an exact replica of me. I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing.

“Because you have the biggest, newest house. And a big-ass fucking TV,” Gunny announced before taking a swig of his beer.

“Big ass!” Memphis shouted. Presley gasped. Like I hadn’t heard her cussing like a sailor in her room when she was made to clean it before her friend could come over.

I slapped a hand to my forehead, then glared at my brother.

Styx came in from the kitchen with a big bowl of popcorn and walked by Truth, stealing his beer.

“Dammit, you were just in the kitchen! Why didn’t you get your own beer?” Truth complained.

“I forgot,” Styx said as he shrugged, then tipped up the bottle.

Truth shook his head and dropped to the couch next to Gunny and stole the beer from his hand.

“Dammit, you’re such an asshole!” Gunny grumbled. “Not a fucking one of you knows how to get your own damn beer.”

“Uncle Gunny!” Presley was trying like hell to seem all mature. I knew she and her friends had little crushes on most of my brothers. It was insane, and I wasn’t ready for that shit. They ran off giggling to her bedroom at Presley’s urging. The door slammed. God help me from the world of ten-year-olds going on twenty-five-year-olds.

“Dad, Presley made me drop my Play-Doh castle in the hallway!” Bryson, our almost seven-year-old son, pushed his mop of inky bangs off his face.

“Fuck, I just wanted to watch the game with the guys,” I muttered.

His hair was exactly like his mother’s. Thick, dark, and unruly. But he didn’t want to cut it yet because he was in some independent phase, according to Raiven.

Though he was an old soul at times and very mature for his age, he was sensitive. His eyes were tearing up, and I knelt in front of him. Wiping an escaped tear with a thumb, I spoke quietly to him so he wouldn’t get embarrassed. “Hey, little man, it’s okay. We’re gonna build a new one, and I’ll help you get it safely to Uncle Smoke’s.”

A wicked grin spread over my face at the thought of payback for all the years of fucking Play-Doh.

Rapidly blinking his big blue eyes to clear them, my son sniffled, then grinned. Holding my hand up for a high five, I met his eyes, and my heart stopped. I couldn’t push words out of my mouth.

“Dad? You okay?” My son stared at me like I’d lost my marbles.

Stared at me with inquisitive blue eyes.

With a small brown spot in the left one.

Every time I sit down to write these, I never know what to say. I usually thank everyone under the sun and then wonder if any of you actually read this (insert thinking emoji haha). Whether you all do, or whether a handful of you do, thank you. Thank you for reading my book, thank you for leaving your review (hint-hint, pretty please), and thank you for believing in my words and my characters enough to make it this far.

This is my ninth full-length novel in two years. I’m pretty happy with myself. I’m shooting to release number ten by the end of the year, if not number eleven. Wish me luck!

If you made it this far, and if you haven’t already, please join my Facebook reader’s group Kristine’s Krazy Fangirls at www.facebook.com/groups/kristineskrazyfangirls and keep ahead of everyone on new releases, cover reveals, snippets of my WIPs, and general posts of good cheer. Haha!

Thank you to my ARC readers, though you be few, you be mighty.

One person I will always thank is my awesome friend and alpha/beta-reader Penny. Thank you for always believing in me and offering up endless amounts of encouragement. You’re the one who’s been with me on this journey since day one. My own personal cheerleading squad. I love you to pieces.

Brenda and Lisa, my amazing PA’s/Roadies/Bookkeepers and all around motivational squad, I don’t know what I’d do without you. Brenda, we’ve already proven we fall apart without you at the signings so we have to remain the Three Musketeers or else. Thank you both for all you do and know that I love you bunches!

My family, I appreciate that you’ve had patience with me as I struggled to finish this book after our trip to Cornwall sidetracked my words. There were a lot of late nights and “give me five minutes.” Sorry about that. :p Specifically, thank you to “Porn Star Hubby.” My biggest promoter, best friend, and fan. I love you. Thank you for being proud of each of my accomplishments and bragging about me to everyone under the sun! To my kiddos, I’m still glad you’re not embarrassed that your mom writes “those dirty books.” This cracks me up every time I think about it.

My biggest thank you is to America’s real heroes. The Veterans of our Armed Forces. Thank you for the sacrifices you make to give us the freedoms we have and don’t always appreciate. I never forget you and I wear red EVERY FRIDAY.
