Apple was quiet. The emotions that stirred in her were contradictory and confusing. No matter what she felt about Denise, at the end of it all, she had come through for her and had been a mother to her these past weeks.

The sisters knew it was Chico.

“Chico, that muthafucka gotta go. I swear, I’ma cut his fuckin’ heart out,” Apple said.

Kola was silent, her mind spinning with a thousand and one things. No matter what they did or where they went, their enemies were going to hunt them down like animals until their family tree was annihilated. They only had each other now.

“We can’t stay here,” Terri said. “It’s a risk now. There’s no telling what your mother told them.”

“She didn’t talk, I know it,” Apple said.

“Yeah , but we can’t take that chance.”

Kola knew Terri was right. Chico would have the hospital overrun with shooters in a heartbeat.

Terri got on the phone and began making preparations for the twins’ departure. They didn’t have any time to waste. Every minute, every second counted.

Despite their differences with their mother, the girls vowed retribution on every single last muthafucka that played a hand in her death, Apple getting shot, and Kola getting stabbed.

As Terri and Apple started packing and making arrangements for their safety and retribution, Kola contemplated the next move. It was the only way to survive this bloody war and kill all their foes with one huge blow.

Kola stepped into the stylish café in Washington Heights, located on the corner of Broadway and 181st Street. It was a bustling shopping area with numerous people out and about with family and friends, going in and out of various stores that lined the street.

It was a huge risk for Kola to be anywhere in the city, especially in Washington Heights, which was so close to Harlem, and so close to danger. She had a huge bounty on her head. But with great risk came great reward, so she was willing to take her chances.

She turned heads entering the building in a sexy off-the-shoulder knit top with elastic ruffled detail and bow accent, and a pair of tight black leggings that highlighted her curves. And the red bottoms she wore made her look like she was ready to reach the heavens.

Inside the café, with its brilliant ambiance, clean floors, top ceiling, and bright view to the outside, a few Colombian gangsters were enjoying the good food and great wine. When Kola walked in, the conversations abruptly stopped, and all eyes were on her. She hoped she was making the right moves, because one mistake, and she wouldn’t walk out of the place alive.

Kola stood by the doorway and watched these gangsters suddenly stand up from their tables and glare at her like she was a demon. A few started to display their guns, their smiles quickly transforming into scowls. She was behind enemy lines now, so there was no turning back.

“I didn’t come for any trouble,” she spoke.

“Then you’re in the wrong fuckin’ place, puta,” one of the suited gangsters replied through clenched teeth.

“I need to speak wit’ Eduardo.” Suddenly, Kola found herself surrounded by these men, and leaving the café became impossible.

“You have some nerve, Kola. You think Eduardo wants to see you, after everything that happened? You set him up.”

  “It wasn’t me.”

“Like hell it wasn’t.” The man then smirked at Kola. “Stupid bitch!”

Kola remembered Domino from the penthouse in New Jersey. He was tall and handsome with his well-groomed beard and brawny physique. He was a soldier back then. Now it looked like he had been promoted to lieutenant.

“You got balls, bitch. Stupid, but you got balls,” he said.

“I just want to explain myself to Eduardo. That’s all I’m asking for. I need to meet wit’ him.”

Domino stared at Kola like she was a piece of meat. He wanted to tear into her flesh so badly, he felt his dick growing inside his pants. He knew it would be a waste if they had to kill her right away and not have some fun with her first.

One of the men snatched Kola’s purse from around her arm and quickly went through it. He removed her .380 and dumped all of the contents from her purse on the floor. But Kola kept her cool. She just wanted to see Eduardo and speak to him. They had history together, and she needed to clear a few things up with him.

Domino continued to glare at Kola. “How did you know to come here?”

“I have a good memory.” She locked eyes with Domino. So far, he was the shot-caller in the café. It was up to him to make the call to Eduardo or not. “I know I fucked up, Domino, but just make the call to him and have him decide what he wants to do wit’ me. I’m here, so fuck it.”

Domino looked to be in deep thought. He stepped away from Kola and removed his cell phone from his hip. He decided to make the call to Eduardo.

Kola watched him closely. She had put herself in this situation. One word from Eduardo, and she could be leaving out the backdoor wrapped up in a plastic tarp and thrown into the trunk of a car. They had the power to make her disappear, and the hood would be none the wiser.

After the call, Domino stepped toward the pack again, his cold onyx eyes fixed on Kola. He was silent for a short moment, and then he said, “It’s your lucky day, and you get to breathe easy for a moment. He’ll meet with you.”

Kola tried not to let them see her sweat. “When?”

  “Right now.”

Suddenly, the suited Colombian gangsters snatched Kola up and dragged her toward the back of the café and into the kitchen area. The staff and cooks working their shift minded their business and acted like there wasn’t anything going on. They carried Kola into a back room, where it was cold and dark, and placed duct tape over her mouth. Then they tossed a black hood over her head and bound her wrists behind her. She was starting to feel like she’d made a huge mistake.

She felt herself being carried over someone’s shoulder and tossed into the trunk of a vehicle like a sack of potatoes. Then she heard the engine start. Kola tried to breathe and keep cool, but she was scared. Eduardo was very unpredictable.

She felt the vehicle moving at a fast speed, zigzagging through the city streets. The trunk she was concealed in was spacious and empty.

Relax, Kola, she thought. Just relax.

The vehicle came to a stop after a two-hour ride. Kola was in a daze. Her limbs felt sore, and she had the urge to pee.

The trunk came open abruptly, and she felt a blast of sunlight. They pulled her out of the trunk by her arms and made her stand up. She had no idea where she was, since they’d kept the hood over her head.

They pulled Kola up a flight of stairs with support, and then she was forced into a room, where they pushed her into a soft, comfortable leather chair. They cut her restraints, and she was able to move her hands. And then they removed the hood from her head and tore off the duct tape. It hurt like hell.

Kola grimaced at the suited thugs that stood around her. She looked around the room and didn’t know the place. The room was huge and well lit with sunlight coming through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Kola’s heart felt like it was in her stomach as she waited for several minutes. When Eduardo stepped into the sunlit room, Kola kept her cool. She refused to show him any emotion.

Eduardo gazed at Kola as he puffed on a huge cigar. The room got silent once he’d showed his mighty presence. His men stood still and waited on his orders.

Kola couldn’t take her eyes off Eduardo. A feared figure in the underworld, he was still a gorgeous man with his curly black hair, hazel eyes, and honey-colored skin. And he was well built from head to toe and looked enticing with his precisely trimmed goatee.

Eduardo wore white cargo shorts and was shirtless and barefoot. And around his neck he sported a thin gold chain with a small cross. He approached Kola.

“Kola, you have some nerve showing your face to me again,” he said coolly.

  “Let me explain.”

“Explain what? I should have my
men tear you apart for your fuckin’ betrayal.” He rushed toward Kola, wrapped his hand around her slim neck, and put the burning cigar close to her eye. “I should take out your fuckin’ eye right now!”

“It wasn’t me, Eduardo,” she cried out.

Eduardo squeezed tighter, restricting her airflow.

Kola felt the urge to pass out, but she kept her hard stare on him. “Let me talk, please,” she managed to say between gasps.

Eduardo released his hold from around her neck and stood upright, his menacing gaze still aimed at her. Now that she had his ear, she had to convince him if she wanted to remain alive.

“We have dead on both sides, Eduardo, mine and yours. But that attack on you in New Jersey, I had nothin’ to do wit’ it. I swear to you.”

  “I lost heavily over that.”

“I know, but Cross was responsible for that. I was unaware of his actions until it was too late. He was jealous of you. He always was. He thought we were fuckin’. He had me followed and then decided to move against you.”

Eduardo stared at his goons and ordered, “Leave us, now!”

His men didn’t ask any questions. They left the room hurriedly, closing the door behind them, leaving him alone in the room with her. Kola didn’t know what to expect.

“You know our business was good, and I would never betray our friendship and business, Eduardo. I had a good thing goin’ wit’ you. I was making so much money wit’ you, so why would I fuck that up? Everything was on Cross. He was such a jealous muthafucka!”

“I will handle Cross in due time. I’m aware of his whereabouts. He’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”

“And what about me? Are we cool?”

Eduardo let out a chilling laugh. “Cool? You forget who the fuck I am?”

  “I never did.”

“You come to me, tell me this story, and you look for my forgiveness?”

Kola swallowed hard. Eduardo was always a man hard to persuade.

“I’m not lookin’ for any forgiveness from you. I came to you to tell you the truth about the situation.”

“And you think you gonna leave here alive?”

“You was in love wit’ me once, or was that a lie?”

Eduardo chuckled. “You were nothing but an opportunity for me, and one I have yet to take advantage of.”

Kola knew what he was hinting at.

“But you are a very impressive woman, Kola, I must admit. And I’m no fool. I know your true reasons for this unexpected visit. The fact that you were able to locate Domino shows your memory and senses were always sharp.”

  “I’m still the same woman.”

“But things have changed between us. And I know and hear everything,” Eduardo said in a civil tone. “Everything. I know you are weak and frightened at this moment.” He dowsed his burning cigar against the granite countertop and moved closer to Kola, his eyes burning into her.

He touched her gently, admiring her beauty. “You are still a beautiful woman, Kola. Any man would be lucky to have you in his life.” He ran his fingers against her smooth skin and then through her dark, long hair. “Stand up,” he said sternly.

Kola stood up, and Eduardo circled her slowly. He admired her luscious backside, plump hips, and curvy waistline.

“Such a young and pretty girl with so much ambition. You know that can get you killed sometimes. I know about your problems with Chico, and your trials and tribulations down in Miami. You thought you could run from me. I always knew you would be back, that you would come to me on your fuckin’ hands and knees and begging for my forgiveness.”

Kola wasn’t going to beg, but she didn’t want to infuriate him any more. She needed his help, if he didn’t kill her first.

“Look at you . . . looking like a lost bitch.”

Kola kept quiet, but she refused to be intimidated by him. She locked eyes with the Colombian kingpin and remained still as his hands continued to roam her body.

“Is this what you always wanted from me, Eduardo . . . pussy?”

“I wanted much more from you, Kola. I wanted your love, and I wanted your heart, but our business came first. I could have taken sex from you a long time ago, but I had respect for you and wanted it to come from you willingly.”

“And what’s stoppin’ you now? I know you have power. I never disputed that. And I’m not foolish to go up against you, Eduardo. You know me. I was never that stupid.”

“You sure about that? I’ve seen smart people do very stupid things.” He stood behind her, wrapped his arm around her waist, and pulled her closer into him, so that her backside was pressing up against his pelvis. She could feel his breath against her neck and his genitals rubbing against her.

“You want this, huh? You want me to take something from you that I’ve yearned for, for so fuckin’ long?” he whispered in her ear.

  “I need your help.”

“Of course, you do. And why would I want to help you?”

“’Cause you still love me,” she replied boldly.

Eduardo took a fistful of Kola’s hair and all of a sudden yanked it back like he was tugging at the reins of a horse, causing her neck to snap back. And Kola winced from the sharp pain.

“And why would you think I’m in love with you?” he asked through clenched teeth.

  “Because I’m still alive.”

“You’re a dumb, naïve little bitch, Kola.”

Eduardo forcefully cupped her breasts, but Kola didn’t fight him. She couldn’t. She had nowhere to go. She didn’t know where she was, or whether she was still in New York. In fact, after the long drive, she could have been in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, or even upstate New York.

Eduardo ripped off Kola’s sexy off-the-shoulder top, exposing her breasts, and then he pulled down her tight leggings, revealing that she didn’t have on any panties. He curved her over the chair and spread her legs and quickly undid the zipper to his cargo shorts.

“You want my help, you silly little bitch, I’ll give you my fuckin’ help.”

With one powerful thrust, he pierced the one hole Kola wasn’t ready for. He pounded his fat, long, rock-hard manhood into her asshole, causing her to yelp. He grunted as he slid in and out of her rectum, while she winced from the pain. He held her steady with one hand and her hip with the other. Her hole was the tightest.

“Ugh! Ugh!” he grunted. “You want my fuckin’ help, then you take all this dick, bitch.”

Kola had plenty of dicks before, but Eduardo was hung like a horse. The agony she felt from the fierce penetration made her dig her nails into the leather furniture as she bit down on her bottom lip and cried out. Eduardo continued to invade her rectum walls, the head of his thick dick swelling inside of her. She had to take it; she had no other choice. He used his muscles to flex his dick within her, causing her to close her eyes and wish she was somewhere else.

Eduardo fucked her from the back like that for a good moment, moaning and grunting with each thrust, as he continued to hold Kola by the back of her neck, pushing her face into the cushioned chair and ravaging her asshole.

He could feel the come boiling in his nuts and was ready to shoot his load inside of her. He growled savagely as his orgasm reached its height.

He pulled out and shot his hot come all over Kola’s gaping asshole. His breathing was heavy, and he was a little sweaty. It was an intense fuck, and he enjoyed every minute of it.

Kola collapsed by Eduardo’s feet, and she couldn’t stop crying. She felt weak and abused. She couldn’t move. She never felt so violated. It hurt. Eduardo had ripped her apart physically and mentally.

Eduardo stood over her as he fastened his shorts, looking proud. “You want my help, then you gonna owe me, and owe me big . . . you and your sister. Nothing comes free in this fuckin’ world, not even a nut.”

Kola knew what that meant, but without Eduardo’s help, the sisters wouldn’t last long in the streets. Their time was running out. She had too many enemies, and she wanted them all
wiped out. And Eduardo was the only one with the power and resources to kill ’em all.

“From now on, y’all bitches work for me. You understand me?”

  Kola hesitated to respond.

“Bitch, do you understand me? If you want my help, then you speak.”

Kola slowly gazed up at him with her teary eyes and nodded. “I need your help,” she said sadly. Kola had never been broken, but one not-so-pleasurable moment with the Colombian kingpin nearly tore her spirit into pieces.

Eduardo smirked. He believed her story about Cross, but he was about business. And Kola proved that she could become a valuable asset to his drug empire. She was too beautiful and smart of a woman to just kill. She would become his personal concubine, for pleasure and business. It pleased him that he had her where he wanted her, in his pocket, under his control, and indebted to him.

He gazed at Kola with his hard, cold eyes. “Now go and bury your fuckin’ mother, collect your sister, and come home to Daddy, because we got a lot of work to take care of. And, Chico—consider him and your other adversaries memories. One snap of my fingers, and these putas will be dead by sunset.”

Kola stood up on wobbly legs and nodded. She knew she had sold her soul to the devil.

  Thirty

Kola and Apple watched silently as their mother’s bronze casket was slowly lowered into the ground. There were no tears or loud outbursts at her burial. They were saddened by the tragic loss, but it was the game—the hand they’d been dealt. Their whole lives, Denise had been a wicked and self-centered woman, and a few weeks of motherly love couldn’t take back the hardship they endured while living under her roof. There were good times and bad times, but mostly bad. The twins had simply come to pay their respect to the woman who gave birth to them and leave.

Apple clutched the wooden cane for support. Her recovery was coming along smoothly. She was becoming more agile every day. But her mind was plagued with so many worries, from Shaun to Chico, and her infant daughter was on her mind heavily. She’d kept Peaches a secret, figuring she would never see her daughter again. Shaun had sold her off, and unless she could find him and get him to talk before she tortured and killed him, then seeing her baby again was a lost cause.
