  “But I do.”

“As I was saying,” Gus said, “I see no purpose being served by going any further with your hypothesis.”

”Hypothesis?” sputtered James. “You know damn well it’s correct… Once I knew the murderess chained the door…” A light of comprehension illumined his face. “And it must be forever hypothetical because I promised to…”

“You promised to keep this under the seal of confessional. Precisely,” Gus smiled. “Kneel for your absolution and penance, you nosy busybody.”

  Epilogue

On the tenth anniversary of Roe v, Wade, during the sixth year of the marriage of James and Abby, the TIMES ran a full-page advertisement protesting the Federal Administration’s opposition to abortion.

The ad was signed by women who had had abortions themselves.

One of the names was Professor Mary Jane Neuhaus, of the State University.

And James thought back to the summer of ’76 and a courtroom defendant with no alibi.

Naw, that’s too much of a coincidence, isn’t it?

His train of thought was derailed by his four-year-old daughter Margaret and his one-year-old son Matthew.

James never asked Gus about Margarita Gomez directly, and never would.

But the ad did remind him of the woman who killed the father of her child, because she wouldn’t kill his child.

  “An amazing woman.”

“What’s that, dear?” asked his wife.

“I said you were amazing, darling, and I love you very, very much.”

[1]This scene needs a better intro. We’re introducing three new characters out of nowhere.

[2]Never mentioned before here. Be sure to find a description of him

[3]Actually, there was a slight mention of his name in the first chapters, but it was a drive by with a sentence fragmnent and minimal data. He’s the interim manager at LaPanto.

Easy to lose in LOTS of data. LOTS of backstory.

[4]Let’s see if this is ever followed up on in this novel
