An Alpha in a Pear Tree

  Was I losing my mind?

The next time I looked, the wolf wasn’t there.

I told myself to forget about it and get back to where I had been, which was in the throes of passion with Melchior. I leaned my head back against his broad, muscular chest.

I came with a powerful force, moaning into his hand as he flicked my clit expertly.

Then his hand that had been down on my pussy and ass moved up and around, to my breast, and started pinching my nipple.

“I’m going to teach you to orgasm just from having your breasts played with,” he told me, continuing to hold my mouth with one hand while his other squeezed my nipple.

He was looking down at my hard, erect nipple. Then he was kissing my neck.

I looked up and saw the wolf again. I was quite sure now that he was back to stare at me, to watch what Melchior was doing to me.

I knew I should have been upset, but I was overcome with a strange feeling of power and euphoria. I had no idea what had gotten into me, to be pleased to be watched while my naked body was humping and grinding on a man, while that man was making my nipples hard and aching for him, while he had just left my pussy dripping wet all over him.

But then I decided I’d really better find a way to say something to Melchior. Maybe it was normal, in these woods, for wolves to pop in and out of trees, hiding while watching people, but more likely, it was a sign of impending danger.

I couldn’t help but remember that I was here to find a baby. To save people. Not to just cum over and over while forest creatures watched.

I leaned my lips up for Melchior to kiss, and he did, finally releasing his hand from my mouth, and replacing them with his mouth.

I kissed him passionately for a moment, savoring it, and also feeling a thrill of excitement for one more chance to off what Melchior was doing to me to whomever might be in the forest, of any species.

  Then, I whispered, “Umm, Melchior?”

“Shhh,” he said, putting just his finger up against my lips.

I wanted to suck on it, and I knew he wanted to, too, but now was not the time.

“Melchoir, I think there might be a wolf in the woods,” I told him, softly.

  “What did you say?”

His posture changed instantly, his chest sticking out and his back straight as a rod.

  “There’s a wolf…”

He squeezed my hand, as if to shhhh me, and I instantly got quiet.

Then he looked around, in the area of the woods to which I’d been pointing, but the wolf was gone again.

“I swear, it was right there,” I said, feeling stupid now.

What if I really had imagined it?

I should have just ignored it and I’d be cumming more right now.

Instead, I could tell our make out session— or, training session, as Melchior would probably call it— was over, at least for now, much to my chagrin. Melchior was fixing his pants and then bending down to retrieve my clothes from the forest floor where they had been discarded.

“Here, put these on,” he said. “I’m sorry, but I have to go check out this wolf in the woods.”

“Check it out?” I asked him, confused.

I could tell he didn’t want to tell me everything that was going on. I was frustrated, but I knew I would only get another “wait until you’re ready” answer if I was to ask for more information.

Plus, there wasn’t time. I hurried to get dressed, while Melchior started to dart off in the direction of the woods.

“Sorry,” he said, coming back and kissing me on my forehead. “I’ll be quick.”

“I didn’t think you could be quick even if you tried,” I told him, chuckling at my own dirty double entendre.

He smiled a bit, but he was obviously really distracted.

“I’ll be right back,” he said, taking off for real this time. “Hang tight.”

Hang tight, I thought, as I looked around at the canyon we were in.

I didn’t know how I could do much else besides hang tight. I decided to sit down on a large rock and try not to worry about what would happen if Melchior didn’t come back.

I hadn’t exactly been paying attention to how we had gotten here and I wasn’t sure if I would know how to get back. Besides, I didn’t want to go back. I need to keep going forward, to meet my cousin.

I could have kicked myself for letting my hormones get the best of me.

Why hadn’t I just continued on my journey?

I’d been on such a good track, the invisible force pushing me forward and making it impossible for me to slow down.

Now I’d gone and gotten sidetracked by the sexy man who had just disappeared.

Why does he need to go check out a wolf in the woods? I wondered.

There were lots of wolves in the wood.

Sure, most of them didn’t play peeping tom as people made out.

But that was me ascribing a human attribute to an animal. I was sure the wolf was just surveying its surroundings and had been shocked to find us in the isolated, desolate canyon. He was probably just keeping an eye out to make sure we were harmless. He also could have been guarding the area for the safety of his pack.

Even though logically I knew there were a lot of explanations, emotionally, I didn’t really consider any of them very seriously.

I felt strangely drawn to the wolf. Just as I had to Melchior. In fact, it was almost the exact same feeling.

  Now that was freaking confusing.

Here I was thinking I had found some kind of fated mate in Melchior, but now I was having a similar feeling about an animal, of all things.

Maybe my head and my heart were just playing tricks on me. I should have stayed home, but now that I was here. I had to get a move on it.

I considered getting up and just walking away. I could continue following the North Star and see where it took me. I had an idea that that was the right way to be walking, even though Melchior hadn’t told me what would happen or where to go after I found him.

I knew that Melchior would be upset if I left.

He told me to stay here.

And I wanted his hand on my pussy again.

I didn’t know why he needed to go check out a wolf in the forest.

Or maybe I did and maybe I just didn’t want to really know.

I know I had been on the right track when I had asked him what he was, instead of who he was.

Maybe this was one of the things he wanted me to figure out on my own before we could move on in my training.

And maybe I was starting to get ready to do that.

Even if it was because I had no other choice.

Like it or not, I had a feeling there was a lot about Melchior, Bethel Forest, that wolf that was staring at me, and even— no, especially— myself, that I was on the precipice of discovering.

  Chapter Thirteen

  Melchior

I hurried into the woods to find Matthieu, thinking that my right hand man— or, wolf— had very bad timing in terms of when to decide to show up and help.

The whole time I was in the pear tree, all he and the other pack members had done was discourage me from getting my hopes up about Marilyn arriving in the forest any time soon, and now he was so impatient to talk to me about something that he couldn’t even let me fit in a little alone time with her.

I let out a sigh that also contained a slight growl to it as I found him in a slight clearing.

“Yes?” I asked him, not even bothering to hide the sound of the annoyance in my voice. “You wanted me?”

“How did you know?” he asked.

I just stared at him, thinking that he had better start talking to me about whatever he thought was so urgent soon or I would pick him up and hurl him across the forest for interrupting the best thing that had ever happened to me to simply to waste my time.

“Um, I did want to talk to you,” he said, now looking as if he too were in a rush to get out whatever he needed to say. “I thought you would want to kno
w a couple different things. Some of the pack members think the RIVALPACK is coming our way.”

“And why do they think this?” I asked him, annoyed at him for not getting to the point fast enough.

Perhaps Jessalyn had taken what I’d told her and spread some rumors about it, as she was prone to do. Creating drama was kind of her whole thing.

“I was getting to that. Hold your damn horses,” Matthieu said.

The hair on his back was standing up.

I may have been the alpha, but Matthieu was no wimp.

He didn’t like that I was being short tempered with him when he was trying to help me. I tried to tell myself to chill the fuck out a little bit.

“Some of them say they felt them due to a spell; others that they’ve smelted them,” he continued.

  Hmmm.

It could very well be that RIVALPACK was approaching. It could also be that my own pack just had it in their minds that RIVALPACK could be approaching, and now they were coming up with reasons to back up their own theory.

There was only way to know for sure, without time to work some kind of spell.

If RIVALPACK was near, RIVALALPHA would be in charge of them and he was always one to make his presence known.

“Okay,” I told him. “And what’s the other thing?”

He looked at me blankly for a moment, and I was about to say, you told me there were two things and you’ve only talked to me about one of them, but I didn’t want to be sarcastic and make him angrier.

He seemed to remember, anyway, and told me, “Oh yeah. Look at this.”

He reached under a bush and pulled out an orb.

For a second, I recoiled, wondering if it had picked up video of Marilyn and me. But no matter how impatient I was feeling and how much I wanted Matthieu to stop his meandering ways and light a little fuel under his fire, I did trust him and I knew he was competent enough to order the orbs to stop recording once Marilyn had found me.

So, I calmly— or at least with as much calm as I could muster under the circumstances— pushed play and saw that it was a video of a fucking tree.

  The pear tree.

I watched as, in slow motion, some leaves and pears fell off, and the branches got visibly thicker and harder. But they still showed partial disintegration. And they were a slightly different color. Gray. As if some of the color and joy had drained out of them.

“Thank you for showing me,” I told Matthieu, closing the palm of my hand around the orb. “I’m going to figure out what’s up with this. But I’m a little bit, umm, indisposed at the moment.”

“Do you really think it’s a good idea to be… umm… fraternizing with the one person who has the power to save us all?” Matthieu asked. “That’s kind of a very important thing to not fuck up, you know?”

  “I know.”

I looked at him, wishing I could explain why I was being so reckless.

It wasn’t like me. I was usually very level-headed and tried to focus on important things that would protect my pack. I didn’t normally do risky things like this.

But I had a burning desire within me, a natural— or supernatural— pull towards Marilyn, and the animal inside me wouldn’t rest until he had taken what he believed to be his.

  Marilyn.

  I knew it now.

  It was pre-destined.

“I have to go,” I told Matthieu, bounding back towards the canyon where I had left Marilyn. “We’ll talk about this more later.”

“We’d better,” he called after me, but I was running so fast that I was soon out of earshot, even with my sensitive and very accurate hearing.

“There you are,” she said, when I got close enough.

I could tell she had been scared. Her eyes were wide-eyed.

“I’m sorry,” I told her, holding her in my arms.

“You can’t just leave me like that,” she said. “I have no idea where I am or what is going on.”

“I know,” I told her, kissing her softly.

But she pulled away from me.

“I’m done giving you what you want, until you give me at least a bit of what I want,” she said.

“You seemed to want what I was doing to you earlier very much,” I told her. “I remember you enjoying it while you were riding my hand and begging me to fuck you.”

“That’s just it,” she said, sounding annoyed.

I hated that I was making her upset with me. All I wanted to do was make her happy and I had fucked it up.

“What’s just it?” I asked her, ready to listen to her now.

  Maybe I was being disingenuous.

Perhaps she was ready to hear the truth.

  Or least part of it.

I could start with something small.

“You know I want you to take my virginity and you won’t take it. You know I want to know what’s going on around here and you weren’t tell me. It’s like you’re purposefully teasing and torturing me,” she said. “While you were gone, I was sitting here wondering why I should even be here. I could just go home and leave all of this a mystery, since you’re not filling me in on any of it, anyway.”

“Don’t do that,” I told her, pulling her back to me.

  That would be a disaster.

I thought about Matthieu’s warning and knew I should listen to him, but it was too late. I was already overly involved with Marilyn. My heart had become just as invested as my cock.

“Then you’d better start talking,” she said.

And I had to admit that I loved the fire that sparked in her eyes as she said it.

I decided to let her in on a little bit of it, but she still has no idea about the full extent of what might lie ahead. Yet, when I look into those eyes of hers, I realize I likely still have a lot to learn about life and love, too. And maybe we can teach each other.

  Chapter Fourteen

  Marilyn

I was so mad at Melchior that I wished I could hit him. Obviously, I wouldn’t do that, as I didn’t believe in resorting to violence and I knew it wouldn’t solve anything even if I did. He was very tall and strong and could easily overpower me.

Hell, he had overpowered me, but just not in that way. And actually, if I was being honest with myself, not in any way I had expected, either.

I thought he would take my virginity. I didn’t know he would tease me like that.

I was sick of it. I meant every word I just said to him and he had better be prepared to deliver some information— or take my virginity, or both— or I was going to leave.

I didn’t have much waiting for me back at home, but I didn’t have anything here in Bethel, either, if Melchior was going to keep me in the dark.

“Look,” Melchior said, pulling out a round object.

“What is that?” I nearly shrieked.

I put a hand over my mouth, embarrassed about my outburst.

I just hadn’t expected to see something so futuristic in this forest, which seemed to be set back in time and isolated from the rest of the world and technology.

“An orb,” he said, shrugging, as if everyone had one or should know what it was. “An information-gathering device?”

“You mean a tracking device?” I asked him, as he turned it on.

  “Now, I wouldn’t say that…”

“Have you been watching me on that?”

“Look,” he said, obviously getting uncomfortable, and I could tell that he had in fact watched me on this device.

I wasn’t sure if should feel flattered or creeped out.

I guess it should have come as no surprise, since he was clearly attracted to me, and since he was a red-blooded male. Still, a shiver ran down my spine, wondering what exactly he saw, and what exactly he felt.

“I told you I’d start giving you some information, and that’s what I’m doing,” he continued. “Do you want to see this or not?”

  “Okay, fine.”

He pushed play and I saw the tree branch I had touched earlier. At least, I thought it was
that same one, but it looked different.

“Is it… bigger?” I asked, dubiously.

“Yeah,” he said. “But not as big as it should be.”

I raised my eyebrows at him, not following.

“There’s a spell that was put on the trees,” he said.

“I gathered that,” I told him, although I had no idea what to make of it.

“This tree was weak, and I was expecting your touch to heal it.”

  “Yeah.”

He’d already said that, too, but I didn’t want to be rude and keep repeating it.

“As I saw right away, it did start to heal it. But it didn’t heal it enough,” he said.

  “I see.”

I felt as if I had let him down in some way. But it wasn’t as if I knew what was wrong or how to fix it.

“I expected it to be flourishing by now.”

“What does it mean?” I asked him.

  “I honestly don’t know.”

He looked away from the screen and over at me, then, as if to make sure I knew he was telling the truth.

“If I knew, I would tell you.”

I realized it was probably making him feel more vulnerable to tell me that there was something he didn’t know than something he did know.

Perhaps he hoped we could figure it out together.

I tried to think logically about this situation which was based on fantasy and which was a complete mystery to me.

“Since it got better when I was touching it, do you think it’s because I stopped touching it?” I asked him.

  “Maybe.”

He nodded, and then it was like we were both thinking the same thing.

“I could hardly sit there all day with my hand on it,” I told him. “I mean, could I?”

He was looking at me with something on his face that was part grin, part frown.

For all I knew, I could just sit there all day. As long as someone fed me and brought me some books or something.

It wasn’t like I knew what else I had to do in this forest, since Melchior either wasn’t telling me or didn’t know— I was beginning to suspect it was the latter—and maybe it would be a nice relaxing change of pace from my normal, stressed out life of trying to survive exams, avoid my dad’s wrath, and have sex with a douchebag for my first time before luckily changing my mind.
