“Are you holding back on purpose.” I pulled my hands free from his weakening grip and latched on to his hips. “It feels so good—but I want you to come too…”

“Then beg for it.” He leaned forward and pressed his lips to my ear.

“Please…” The words poured across my lips in a whimper.

I felt Trent’s thrusts get harder. He had found the perfect rhythm that would allow him to force me into multiple orgasms, but he needed another gear to chase his own. My body moved on the mattress underneath the power of his thrusts, and he pressed his weight on top of me until I couldn’t squirm. His dick slammed into me so hard that I knew I would have bruises the next day, but I didn’t care. He began to throb and pulsate—every single one of them made my g-spot scream for one more release. I could feel it building, but it didn’t give me the kind of warning that I had the previous times. My pussy spontaneously spasmed on his length, and I felt him go over the edge.

“God damn!” His head rolled back, and a primal roar echoed in his throat. “I can’t even tell you how good that feels!”

Trent’s cock engorged with the full capacity of a throb, and then I felt an eruption inside of me. His seed flooded my pussy, and every pulsation was like a burst of euphoria. I came so hard that I felt like I was trapped in nirvana. Every thrust was chaotic and wild with no rhythm, but they had more determination than any of the ones that brought us to that moment. He hammered me with every ounce of fury he had until he was drained, and then he let his thrusts slow as my orgasm receded. When he finally stopped, my entire body felt weightless—like I was floating on a cloud made up of tranquil bliss. Trent crashed onto the bed next to me, and I was in his arms in an instant. His skin was simmering, and mine was sizzling, but it felt so good to be in his embrace.

“That was….” His words trailed off.

“Yeah.” I pressed my lips to his chest. “It was...”

  Everything.

I didn’t think there was anything left in either of us as we lay in the afterglow of our passion, but I was wrong. We let exhaustion consume us for a little while, but then our lips began to tease—our fingers began to touch—and the fire was slowly stoked back to life. I rolled Trent onto his back for the next trip to paradise and rode his cock until every muscle I had screamed for mercy. I collapsed into his arms as soon as we both climaxed, but that was just another temporary respite. Trent didn’t even force my legs apart when he wanted more—he simply rolled me onto my stomach and lifted my hips until he could enter me from behind. That angle felt really good, and it didn’t take either of us long to come.

“I swear I’ve got nothing left…” I didn’t even try to land in his arms when my body went weak.

“I’ve waited too long for you to give up before we’re even halfway there.” He squeezed the back of my thigh.

“Halfway?” Even in my exhausted state, that caused me to laugh. “You’re crazy.”

“You’ll beg for more soon enough.” He pressed his lips to my back.

I may be limping into the office tomorrow instead of walking…

  Chapter Twenty-Five

  Trent

We managed to get more than one hour of sleep, only because we pushed our bodies to the absolute limit, and neither of us could move. I woke up to the sound of my alarm, which felt like daggers being shoved into my brain. Autopilot kicked in, and I rolled out of bed with a groan. I staggered into the kitchen, made coffee, and heard a string of expletives echo from my bedroom. Brooke was feeling it just like I was, but despite being wiped out, I had an energetic buzz underneath the layer of exhaustion. I put my hands on the counter and sort of dozed while I waited for the coffee to finish—Brooke’s footsteps, followed by a loud groan, snapped me back to my senses before my arms gave out.

“What’s the policy for taking a sick day?” She sat down at the kitchen table. “I can’t even remember what they told me during my orientation class.”

“That’s because you don’t get any sick days while you’re on probation.” I poured two cups of coffee and put one down in front of her. “Cream? Sugar?”

“Maybe for my second cup.” She lifted the coffee to her lips.

“Careful, it’s fucking hot.” I crashed into the chair across from her.

“I don’t care.” She sighed, took a gulp, and immediately winced. “Okay, maybe I do care.”

“We can’t take a day off anyway. We’ve gotta get ready for the presentation tomorrow.” I carefully took a sip of my coffee and ignored the burn.

“Yeah, I know.” She sat her coffee down and sighed. “What do you think will happen after we give it?”

“Hopefully, we’ll get the go-ahead on the campaign.” I nodded. “That’s basically where our job ends, and the next team takes over.”

“Yeah, but I mean…” She looked down for a moment. “After that?”

“Another project?” I shrugged. “Probably separate ones. I told Mr. Remington that we had history—I doubt he’ll assign us to the same one again.”

“So I’ll get another boss?” She raised an eyebrow. “Fuck, what if it’s Fulton?”

“Nah, I think you’ll go to Paul’s team.” I shook my head quickly. “Fulton has his hands full with the new managers and the Emerging Leaders. Once you prove yourself, they’re going to want you on an established team with people you can learn from.”

“What about you?” She tilted her head inquisitively.

“I have no idea.” I took another sip of my coffee. “Technically, the Emerging Leader program is supposed to only last until you have successfully managed a small team—then you get a shot at something bigger. I don’t know if they’ll consider this a true success since the team got broken up so we could work on this project.”

“Maybe Mr. Remington will take care of you. He’s the one that put you on this project, to begin with.” Brooke blew on her coffee before she took her next sip.

“That’s what I’m hoping for.” I nodded. “I may not even stay in marketing. They like to move people around to get them experienced in different departments when they are on the management track.”

“I guess that means we’ll need to keep this a secret?” She took another quick sip of her coffee. “I mean—you’re still technically my boss right now.”

“Yeah, it would be best if we hold off on any public displays of affection until the project is done.” I laughed and nodded. “Are you still nervous about the presentation?”

“If my body could process nervousness—I probably would be.” A smile spread across her lips. “That was one hell of a management strategy. You better not try it with anyone else.”

“Never.” I shook my head quickly. “I mean that. You’ll never have to worry about my loyalty again.”

“I believe you.” She reached across the table and squeezed my hand. “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.”

“So, no more groveling?” I raised an eyebrow.

“You can grovel your way to the fridge and get me cream…” She giggled under her breath. “I’m going to need to start a coffee IV if I don’t wake up soon.”

“Gladly.” I smiled and started to stand up.

We had to do a little juggling to get ourselves to work on time. Brooke went back to her apartment while I showered and got ready. We were already running late by the time she picked me up. Rather than arrive in the same vehicle, I had her drop me off at the overflow lot, so I could drive to the parking garage. There were plenty of spaces in the morning, and it would have looked strange if my vehicle was already there. I didn’t know if anyone would actually notice, but caution was better than a random question from one of the security guards—or worse, someone I worked with that knew which car was mine.

“Good morning, Mr. Rigsby.” Brooke tried to keep a straight face as she greeted me when I walked down her aisle.

“Good morning.” I winked at her. “Let me check my emails, and then we get set up in the conference room.”

  “Sounds good.”
She nodded. “We have that meeting this afternoon with Mr. Remington.”

“You’re invited to that.” I raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah, the invitation says that we need to have the presentation ready for him to look it over before the meeting.” Brooke pointed at her screen.

“Okay.” I shrugged. “It’s as ready as it is going to be.”

Business as usual for now, but I doubt either of us will be sleeping alone tonight.

  * * *

I started my day by responding to a few random emails from people I worked with, including one from Paul, who was curious to know how close we were to finishing the campaign. I got the impression that he already knew his team would be taking it over after the presentation, which solidified my expectations. Work was going to be rather boring once I was forced to go to another department or start on something new without being able to spend the day with Brooke. She had made things a lot more interesting than usual, even before the feelings started to resurface. Thinking about her reminded me that I promised to get rid of the discipline form in her file, so I ran it through the shredder after I finished my emails.

I wish it was this easy to fix all of my mistakes with her, but I’ll prove that I’m not that guy anymore.

Brooke and I went over her presentation several times before lunch, and then we headed out to get something to eat—except we never made it to a restaurant. We ended up in my car in the parking garage, making out and teasing each other with promises of what we intended to do when the day was over. It was rather risky to be so careless in the parking garage, but I couldn’t resist having a taste of her lips.

It wasn’t that unusual for a boss to take an employee out for lunch, especially when we were pushed against a deadline and wanted to make it a working-lunch, but it might have been noticeable if my car didn’t leave my original spot. When our lips finally parted, I made a couple of circles around the parking garage and found a spot that someone else was exiting—it was the best cover we could get considering that we never left the garage.

“Vending machine lunch?” I looked over at Brooke and smiled.

“Sure—that gives us a few more minutes, right?” She grinned.

“It does…” I nodded and immediately crushed her lips with mine.

We kissed until we were almost late for lunch, and I had to walk slightly hunched to hide my erection when we made our way to the elevators. I managed to resist the urge to pick up right where we left off when the doors closed—but our fingers touched, and we both had a silly smirk on her faces when the doors opened on our floor. I was playing with fire—I knew that—but I couldn’t find enough willpower to stop. I even pulled her into the corner of the conference room and kissed her one more time before we sat down at the table.

“Crap.” I stared at my laptop screen. “Mr. Remington wants me to come to his office early.”

“Oh? The meeting got rescheduled?” Brooke tapped her laptop keyboard to unlock it.

“No, this is just for me.” I shrugged. “It’s probably nothing; it just means that we need to wrap up earlier than I thought.”

“You don’t think he knows anything—right?” Brooke tilted her head with a concerned expression on her face.

“If he knew something, we would be meeting with HR instead of him.” I shook my head quickly.

“Okay.” She relaxed. “Should I go ahead and email him the presentation?”

“Nah, wait until the meeting.” I closed my laptop and started to stand up. “I’ll see you upstairs in a little bit.”

I let my hand drag across Brooke’s shoulders, and she squeezed it before I walked out of the conference room. I truly had no idea what Mr. Remington could want, but I was certain that it wasn’t about our extracurricular activities. The protocol for handling something like that didn’t include a personal meeting with the CEO. I took the elevator to the top floor and said hello to Mr. Remington’s secretary before I walked to his office. As soon as I got closer, I could see that his door was open, and he wasn’t alone. Fulton was sitting across from him. I started to take a step back and wait until they were finished talking, but Mr. Remington saw me before I had a chance.

“Come on in.” Mr. Remington motioned to me. “Fulton and I were just discussing the summer internship program—he wants to expand it next year.”

“Is that so?” I narrowed my eyes at Fulton but kept a smile on my face.

I’m sure I can guess why—but how can I judge him when I just spent the night with the only person who reports to me right now?

“We were also talking about your old team.” Fulton nodded. “A couple of them are really standing out over in Paul’s department. Mel—she’s probably the best one we hired.”

Seriously? Because you like staring at her ass?

“We had to write her up.” I sat down next to Fulton. “Or did you forget?”

  You forced me into it.

“No, I remember.” He nodded and started to stand up. “But we had to write Brooke up too, and you don’t seem to think that’s a problem.”

“This is about the presentation?” I tilted my head. “We discussed your concerns yesterday.”

“And like we discussed, I support your decision.” He nodded. “I just finished telling Mr. Remington that before we got sidetracked talking about the summer internship program.”

If you were supporting me, you wouldn’t have to throw in a dig about the write-up.

“He did.” Mr. Remington nodded—he must have sensed that some tension was building between us. “Alright, Fulton. I won’t take up any more of your time. I need to talk with Trenton for a few minutes before we go over his presentation with Brooke.”

“Yes sir.” Fulton walked to the door and closed it as he exited the office.

“Is there a problem between you two?” Mr. Remington tilted his head inquisitively.

“No.” I shook my head quickly. “Just a difference in philosophies these days—and leadership styles.”

I’m finally beginning to grow up, and I’m starting to see that he never has.

“That’s okay, you’re coming into your own, and that’s why I like the Emerging Leader program.” Mr. Remington nodded. “It’s perfectly fine to want to do things differently. We always need fresh ideas.”

“Yes sir.” I nodded in agreement.

“Just don’t forget the ones that helped you get there. You wouldn’t have gotten a shot at being an Emerging Leader if Fulton didn’t go to bat for you.” Mr. Remington leaned back in his chair. “A few others had their doubts—but in my opinion, you’ve showed them all that they were wrong about you.”

Considering that I wrote up someone who did nothing wrong—twice, and spent last night in Brooke’s arms, maybe they weren’t entirely wrong to have doubts.

“I’m eager to see what the future holds.” I ignored the thoughts running through my head and stayed focused on what was in front me—like my past with Brooke, all I could do was move forward.

“Well, we have to get through the presentation first.” Mr. Remington smiled. “I assume that isn’t going to be a problem, right? I called you in here early to give you one last chance to change your mind.”

“About Brooke?” I raised an eyebrow. “No, she’s ready to go.”

“Okay.” He nodded. “Then I’ll let her walk me through it when she gets here, and then we’ll finalize everything for tomorrow.”

“Perfect.” I leaned back and smiled. “I think you’ll be very impressed.”

“I’m not the one who needs to be impressed this time.” He shook his head. “I don’t like to threaten people, and it’s not really my style, but where the two of you land after this project is over depends entirely on that presentation.”

“I understand, yes sir.” I wasn’t worried, but hearing him say it out loud for the second time in two days did make my chest get tight.

There are plenty of spots in this company where people go to watch their careers die when people lose faith
in them.

  Chapter Twenty-Six

  Brooke

I didn’t know how to not be nervous about my meeting with Mr. Remington. The fact I was running on fumes and caffeine was certainly no help. I distracted myself with thoughts about the previous night after Trent left the conference room. It seemed like everything was finally going right with my life, but it was hanging under a cloud of danger. I didn’t want to get caught, because it could be disastrous for Trent. He was on his way to the top of the company, but an affair with a subordinate would derail that pretty fast—he might even get fired if HR didn’t think that removing him from his leadership position was harsh enough.

We really do need to be careful. After this presentation tomorrow, we’ll find out what we’re doing next—it won’t be an issue if we’re in different departments.

I steadied my nerves when it was time to go upstairs and meet with Mr. Remington. I was ready to give my presentation. I hadn’t struggled at all except for when Fulton was asking me ridiculous questions. I could give it in my sleep and answer every question Trent could come up with. His questions made sense—once I figured out what kind of curveballs he intended to throw. Trent seemed pretty confident that the Xavier Wholesale people would be more likely to ask questions like that than the ones Fulton tried to rattle me with.

I rode the elevator to the top floor, and as soon as the doors opened, I saw the very guy that had made me lose my composure standing in front of me.

“Ah! Brooke!” Fulton smiled. “Off to give your presentation to Mr. Remington?”

“Yes sir.” I nodded and stepped out of the elevator.

“I was just in there with them a few minutes ago.” He put his hands on his hips—just enough to make it difficult for me to quickly scoot past him.
