Magic in Her Touch

by Donna Dalton

Maddie took Anson’s hand, her face as radiant as the morning sun. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” She whirled around and skipped for the door. “I can’t wait to tell Lily. She’ll be so excited.”

As the red-headed whirlwind disappeared into the hallway, Moira rose and skirted the desk. She snuggled in Anson’s arms. “Thank you for agreeing to sponsor Maddie. I’ve never seen her so excited.”

“She’s quite the negotiator. She knows what she wants and goes after it.” A steady blue gaze poured over her. “Just like another Seaton House orphan I know. Am I still a stepping-stone for your career, my darling?”

“Stepping-stone? Oh no. You are my rock and the love of my life.”

Marauding Indians force them into a nearby fort where their safety is threatened by fanatical townspeople and a captivating army officer who try to unmask the children's extraordinary abilities.
