New York Bride

“I really like Amy,” Shay said. “And this part of the country is beautiful. I can see why Alyth wants to live here.”
“Would you like to live in Essex, wife?”
Shay looked up at Mac and gave him a swift kiss on the lips. “I think we have a lot to do at the factory, but perhaps it would be nice to visit.”
Mac agreed. He and Shay spent long nights in a discussion on how they could help the families instead of tearing them apart in their time of need.
Mac asked workers to pay the straight fare for the trip, in lieu of a contract where interest was nearly ten times the amount of the voucher. That way they could have the amount paid off quicker. And any monies could be applied to a better life for them and their children.
Shay worked with the merchant district and opened a small commissary in the plant where workers could buy what they needed at reasonable prices and credit was extended to everyone until payday.
As the women felt they had more control over their lives, the production at the factory increased. Everything was working out as he had hoped it would.
Mac looked at Shay. He was the luckiest man alive. First, when he met her on board the ship to America and second when he found her at the factory fighting for the women she worked with.
“I heard from Finn,” she said.
“You did?”
“I didn’t have a chance to tell you before. He is heading to Virginia. To a town called Fredericksburg. It is along the river, that’s all I know.”
“We will need to pray for him.”
“And for all the men going off to fight.”
“And for all the men going off to fight,” Mac agreed.
He held Shay’s hand and said a silent prayer for the war to end quickly and for Shay’s brother to come home. He knew that Finn would return. After all, he was a fighter. Just like his sister.
He kissed her hand. “Would you like to dance, Mrs. Wardsworth?”
Shay lifted up the edge of her dress and pointed one stocking toe out. Mac laughed. “Where are your shoes.”
“I kicked them underneath the table. It’s more comfortable this way.”
Mac laughed and led her towards the dance floor. Shay was his fighter. His Irish-born lass. A new American. His New York Bride.

Minnesota Bride (Book #2)
By Lisa M. Prysock
Melody Ramsey has a daring and dangerous thirst for adventure in this inspirational Civil War romance. A governor’s daughter, she is in the unique position of meeting President Abraham Lincoln when news of the war breaks out. In fact, her father, the Governor of Minnesota, is the first to offer troops to Lincoln in response to his proclamation to put down the Confederate rebellion.
She has no idea how she’ll accomplish the mission in her heart, but she has a courageous if not overly zealous idea to become a spy before she settles down into becoming a teacher. Since she doesn’t see how it could happen, she tucks the idea away. When dashing military officer and Virginia mountain man, Captain Charles Trumbull, offers her a chance to meet the private secretary to Jefferson Davis by posing as his wife, she takes him up on the unconventional proposal. Can true love be found between the daughter of a northern Yankee politician and a man raised with southern tradition tearing a nation apart?
