“Have a seat, and I’ll let him know you’re here,” she suggested and looked at the schedule to get their names. “Can I get you anything while you wait, Mr. and Ms. Amburo?”
After they declined service, she rang the lawyer’s office and advised him of their arrival. It was nearing closing time, and they were the last clients of the day. Calla powered down her computer and made a plan to dig deeper into Holden Manzelli once she was in her comfy clothes for the night.
As the brother and sister were greeted by Mr. Lowden, Calla straightened her desk and blew out a relieved breath. She was actually going to get out of work on time since they didn’t have a huge caseload to deal with that week. She loved her job, but the hours of tracking people down and gathering information could wear a female out.
She clicked off all but one of the lights in the waiting area. As she glanced down the hallway, something sparked in her mind. It wasn’t like the lawyers to meet with clients right at closing time, but she remembered seeing the appointment noted in the calendar earlier in the week. They’d done it before, but only in an extreme case. And Mr. Lowden only reserved those appointments for very special clients.
She held her breath and called on her panther to shift her ears. Even with her enhanced hearing, she couldn’t make out anything coming from the office. All she got back were mumbles and shuffling papers.
She must have been paranoid with all of the rogues on the loose. Everyone was a criminal in her eyes lately. Mr. Lowden was a good male, even for being a lawyer. Maybe she was just exhausted from school and work. With an eye roll at herself, she forgot about the clients and headed for the exit. She’d take this early night off happily. It didn’t happen very often.
Closing and locking the door, she turned for her car and made her way back to the pride for the night. Tomorrow was another day at the office, and if she didn’t find anything on the Gadaí’s alpha before she went to bed, she’d access some of the resources she had available to her at the firm.
Until then, she sent up a silent prayer to the gods that made them, asking them to watch over the Guardians who were out on the streets rounding up the rogues who were involved. Hopefully, everyone would come out of this new war unscathed.
