Mythia: and the Awakened Beast

The king held his finger to her lips. “Not now. Not yet. In time we will figure out what is going on. We will discover the truth, or we won’t. Until then…” He lowered his hand and held onto hers. “I will keep you safe, and I will never leave your side. I made a promise, and I will not break it. But otherwise we must wait. For the truth.” His hold on her hands felt strangely different, more friendly and less intimate. Mythia felt something fall from her heart.
“All right, then…” She glanced back at the shimmering waters. “I wonder what’s out there.”
“Hopefully whatever is out there… is better than what we have here.”
“Whatever it is,” a new hand landed on Mythia’s and Regulus’s shoulders. It was the Doctrine. “We will get there together.”
The six knights came trudging over, practically dragging a tied up Bello. Fort and Pileus both folded their arms over their chests and grinned at each other. “You won’t be short of your best knights, either.”
“Or your newest,” Miles chimed in.
Regulus turned toward them, the shimmering white waves outlining his body from behind. “I could not have asked for a better party to keep me company as we travel through unknown waters. Let’s head back to Trigonus. We have a new adventure to plan.”
The knights trickled slowly away, leaving Mythia alone with Regulus yet again. He took her hand. “Mythia… what do you think happened to the Dragon King? Do you think he was defeated when my father took his own life?”
Mythia thought about it for a moment and sighed heavily. “He must’ve been. Otherwise your father wouldn’t of wanted you to see the manuscript, right? He wouldn't of been able to write that note, I don't think. But Regulus.” She squeezed his hands and peered deeply into his eyes. Such a deep green, filled with everything she loved most in the world. “The Dragon King was just one entity of the Tenebris. The battle is over… but the war has just begun.”
He stared back at her, drinking hungrily in her face. Unsure of his feelings, unsure of so many things. But he was sure of one thing. “Then we must find it. And destroy it. Or else peace will never reign again. Not for long.”
They both turned back to face the beautiful sparkling, mystical thing in front of them. And just at the edge of the horizon, so small they almost missed it, was something else.
“What is that…?” she asked slowly, pointing toward the thing. Regulus squinted his eyes. The small speck of black slowly grew larger and they were suddenly able to make it out. It appeared to be another giant boat, like the one that sat aging upon the sand. But it wasn’t alone.
“There are at least a dozen of them,” Regulus said suddenly. “Are they coming here?” Mythia shook her head. As they watched, they saw the boats shrink from their vision again and glide very slowly to the right, traveling east.
“Regulus,” Mythia glanced at him, her brown eyes wide. He frowned and pulled gently away from her and walked toward his knights who had stopped in their tracks in front of the opening of the small cave, holding onto Bello, waiting patiently for him. Mythia took one last look at the strange black boats that had disappeared again from her view, before turning around to follow her king; the string wrapped around her heart still clinging precariously onto his.
