Hateful Lies

When I stopped speaking to them, my family cut me off. They cut Violet off as well, but luckily she was able to get a scholarship because of how impressive her marks were the first semester—that’s my girl.
I had to take this semester off because my marks were not nearly as impressive as hers and there was no way I’d ever get a scholarship. But I’m close to graduation, so I’ll continue next year. I’m going to get my diploma to make Violet happy. I don’t really care about school but she thinks it’s important and I would do anything for her.
Even though my family cut me off, they can’t touch the trust fund my grandfather left me before he passed away. I’ll be receiving it in two months on the day I turn twenty-two. There is over twenty million dollars in that trust so Violet and I will be set for life. But I know my girl and she won’t be content to just live in luxury for the rest of her life. She’ll become a doctor and help people.
I also don’t want to rely on a handout from my grandfather. I want to make my own money and prove I can succeed on my own, so after I graduate I’m going to use my inheritance to start a real estate company. I’ve already scouted some prospective properties and made a couple of connections that’ll serve me well. We are going to have a busy life, Violet and I—I even hope we have kids sooner rather than later—but no matter what happens, we’ll do it together. She’s mine.
I slam my hips hard into her. She lets out a loud moan then quickly clamps her mouth shut. “Shhh, we have to be quiet, otherwise Everly and Rogan will hear,” she tells me, even though she was the one making most of the noise.
I laugh and growl against her throat where I was placing kisses. “I don’t give a shit who hears us. You’re mine, and everyone needs to know. I want to hear you scream my name.”
Her eyes widen in fear. She’s scared I’ll actually do it and make her scream—wouldn’t be the first time—and then our roommates will definitely know what we are up to, as if they don’t already. We rushed into the bedroom the second she got home from visiting her friend Ruby and locked the door. They know exactly what we are up to in here.
Her eyes are also so full of desire. She can’t help it, she kind of wants me to make her scream too.
We moved into a house off campus with Everly and Rogan because I got kicked out of the Dark Society and had no place to live, and Violet’s scholarship provides a housing allowance and living off campus is cheaper. I wasn’t surprised when Everly agreed to live with us and split the rent. She cares about Violet like a sister and wants to live with her. The one I was surprised about was Rogan.
Everly convinced him to move in with us because it would be good for him to get some distance from the Dark Society. He’s still the president, but only for another semester and then he graduates. Rogan’s been the president for the last couple of years so Everly told him it would be a good thing to slowly leave, instead of ripping off the bandaid at the end of the school year. Despite the fact they tease and argue like siblings, they get along great and Rogan really values what his sister has to say.
They are also paying my portion of the rent—which I hate, but I’m paying them back in two months when I get my inheritance, with interest. They don’t really care about the money though, their family is one of the richest in the USA, but I do. I hate feeling like a charity case, but I do it to be with Violet. I’d do anything to be with her.
I kiss her roughly. “You’re mine.”
She smiles up at me, and it makes both my heart and my balls ache.
Luckily, when she “lied” before about seeing who shot her dad, she was under eighteen so she didn’t get in trouble for it. Also, the judge was lenient with her given the circumstances and the trauma of her father’s death—and thank God, because I can’t lose her now. I don’t know what I would have done if she’d gone to jail. I shudder. I can’t even think about it.
Our days in court aren’t over yet though. We are both acting as witnesses in a sexual assault case against Byron Ruster. One of his young, female employees accused him of assault, and that brought out dozens of other girls with similar stories. Violet wanted to do her part and agreed to testify, even though it would be risking her reputation. Byron is an immensely powerful guy.
I agreed to testify too, to support her. That disgusting pervert won’t get away with what he’s done. If I was still speaking with my family, I know they would do anything in their power to stop me from testifying, but luckily they no longer have any power over me. It’s worth the risk to my reputation. Violet’s worth any risk.
She cups my face in her hand and brings me back to her. “Always yours. Forever and ever.”
The way she says it, with true happiness on her face, is more pure than anything I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s at this moment I know I will love her more than I will ever love anything.
“I’ll never lie to you,” she says suddenly.
I’m surprised for a second but then say, “I know.” Because I do. I trust her completely.
I bend down and kiss her, igniting the same fire that consumes us every time we touch.
