  “I will.”

Nathan and I left the apartment and headed back to the inoculation sight. We said our farewells to everyone and boarded the barge. We were about to set out on another adventure. One to save the world. I held Nathan’s hand and waved as the barge began the long journey down the Monongahela River.

“I love you,” I told the man next to me.

“I love you too, Emma,” he said as the corners of his lips quirked up.

He leaned his head down and gently pressed his lips to mine.
