‘So do I.’ I reach up and kiss him. ‘And I love you, too.’
It doesn’t take long to get used to him all over again, his touch, the feel of him against me and the soft curl of his hair between my fingers. I don’t think I could ever, ever be sick of this.
‘Hey.’ He pulls back. ‘Do you like your painting?’
‘Like it?’ I look at it over my shoulder. ‘I love it.’
‘Good, because the original is still at home.’ He presses a finger to his lips. ‘I liked the original too much, thought I might keep it.’
‘You did?’ I smile and bite my lip.
‘But I need to keep you, too, matching set and all.’
‘You’re not joking about the marriage thing, then?’
He shakes his head. ‘Not joking, no. I’m not wasting a moment this time around.’
‘Do I get to pick my own ring.’
‘How did I know that was going to be the next question?’
‘Can I?’
‘Is that a yes?’
I nod as I kiss him again. ‘A big, fat, loud, not at all accidental yes.’
We’re interrupted by a cough at the door. Dad’s head slinks away. Busted.
‘See, I told you! I told you I was right,’ he calls to Fiona, who’s already dragging people back to look at her small new art space. ‘I told you they were perfect for each other.’
