Grant nodded. He took Talr’s arm, allowing the doctor to lead him out of the small room.

Ael moaned. He rolled over and reached across the bed, searching for Grant’s warm body. When his search came up empty, Ael opened his eyes. He blinked several times, trying to clear the sleep-induced fog from his head.
“Grant,” he called out.
Ael kicked his legs over the side of the bed and rose to his feet. He strode through the house, calling Grant’s name as he searched for the human. The only thing that Grant had taken was the Sweshian-issued jumpsuit and shoes. He left everything else behind.
He’s gone. Grant is gone. That realization left Ael gasping for air. Pain, sharp and vivid, squeezed Ael’s heart. He couldn’t go through this again. He wasn’t strong enough. Ael shook his head. No. No way. He wasn’t going to allow Grant to be taken away from him.
Ael marched back into his bedroom. He got dressed, pulling on a pair of trousers and a shirt, before heading for the front door. Ael slammed his hand against the button on the wall, and the opaque glass door slid open. Ael jerked back in surprise when he saw Grant standing in the hallway with Doctor Talr. Grant’s blue eyes were shimmering as tears filled his eyes, sliding down his cheeks.
“Grant.” Ael wrapped his arms around the human, pulling him against his chest. “What happened?”
Grant buried his face against Ael’s chest. “I’m pregnant.”
Ael stiffened. “What did you say?”
“He’s yours, Ael,” Talr said. “Your human is pregnant.”
Ael glanced down at Grant, and their eyes met. Ael felt a shock run through him. He saw the truth written all over Grant’s face. The human was pregnant. Grant was his mate. Ael cupped Grant’s cheeks. He leaned down and kissed Grant. He moved his mouth over Grant’s, devouring its softness.
“I’ll just…uh…” Talr cleared his throat. “I’ll see you later.”
Ael ignored the other male.
He picked Grant up, lifting the human off his feet. Ael held Grant close as he strode back into his bedroom. He gently laid Grant down onto the bed and joined the human, lying beside him. Ael propped himself up on his elbow and placed his hand on Grant’s stomach.
“I love you,” he said, completely overcome by emotion.
“I love you, too.”
Ael leaned down and connected their lips once more. He couldn’t believe that he would be able to kiss Grant for the rest of his life. This human. This man. This was his mate. His future.
