“Is that you, Joe?”
“Yeah. Sorry for calling so late, Kathy. Just wanted to make sure you were all right.”
“I’m fine. Thanks, I guess. Is something wrong?”
“Dunno. Just saw someone parked halfway in your driveway a few minutes ago. The guy had spun out and was standing next to his car, maybe checking his tires or something. I can’t be sure, but I think it was the same guy I saw earlier tonight. He was driving in the fog with his brights on by that truck stop off I-24 – probably all the way here. Pretty dangerous stuff. Especially with it being foggy out and all, you just never know.”
“Well, thanks. Yes I think everything here’s fine. I’m checking the window now, but I don’t see any cars out there.”
“Well that’s good. I just –"
“Hold on a sec. Is that… oh Jesus. I think I see Gunner lying in the yard, Joe.”
“Don’t try to move him, Kathy. I’ll be right there. I’ve still got the van running.”
