A Bride for James

James huffed a laugh. “I think you did that well. But enough about him. I’d rather talk about you and me, Mrs. Fisher?”
She smiled at the moniker he’d been calling her by since the moment they confessed their love. “Yes, Mr. Fisher?”
“Would it be inappropriate to ask how many children you’d like to have?”
Heat rushed to her cheeks as her gaze snapped his direction. The playful glint in his eye let her know he’d been trying to get a rise out of her. She shook her head. “You are incorrigible, Mr. Fisher.”
“Only with you, Mrs. Fisher,” he said with a laugh.
And she laughed with him. Somehow Abby felt that theirs would be a home of laughter and mischief just as much as it was one of comfort and safety. If she had been allowed to choose a husband from a thousand men, she’d choose James all over again. And maybe later, she’d tell him just that.
