“What do you want to do?” Roman cupped his hand over Chloe’s.

She glanced over at him and shrugged. “I’m game for adventure. The night is young. We are young.”

“The world is at our fingertips,” he grinned enthusiastically. They strolled along the city streets, wandering past the glass Louvre. Chloe persuaded Roman to take her picture in front of it. Then she made him take a selfie of them standing with the glass building behind them. They strolled past bistros, shops, and restaurants; all tucked away for the night. There was something exceptionally fantastic and slightly eerie about roaming the streets of Paris at night when the whole entire city was asleep.

The air buzzed with magic as he followed Chloe, eagerly trotting along as she played the part of the toting tourist. She didn’t seem to mind that everything was closed. She was blessed with an adventurous spirit just like he was. They were a perfect match, and he counted himself lucky to have her as his soul mate and best friend.

They took a romantic stroll down the Seine River, staring across the city and the magnificent twinkling of lights surrounding them.

“It’s so dreamy,” Chloe chirped. “Can you believe this is our life?”

“Do you feel like you need to pinch yourself?” Roman chuckled, playfully teasing her as he stroked the small of her back.

“No!” Chloe protested. “I will never want to do that. If it is just a dream, I never want to wake up.”

“I assure you,” Roman cradled her head in his hands. “It’s real.” He gave her a tantric stare, blazing through her vivid and intoxicatingly blue eyes. She was so beautiful; he could hardly breathe.

“I love you so much,” he whispered.

Chloe gave him a sensual look. “I love you too,” she agreed breathlessly.

He leaned in to press his lips to her, loving the feminine way she smelled, like clean linens. Her lips were perfectly juicy and delicious, making his manhood tingle between his legs. He couldn’t wait to get her back to the hotel room, so he could make desperate, hungry love to her.

“Are you ready to head back?” Roman glanced at his watch. “It’s getting late.”

Chloe only looked slightly disappointed. “Can we do this again tomorrow?” She questioned, a hopeful tone dripping from her voice.

Roman smiled. As long as he was with her, he didn’t care what they did. As long as she was by his side, he was going to be in an elated state of mind no matter what.

“Absolutely baby. Your wishes are my command.” He wanted to spoil her and give her everything that he felt she deserved, the world on a platter, out for grabs.

Roman knew that Chloe would never forget her roots. She was simple. She loved fashion, but in a fun and eccentric way, not because she was out there trying to impress everyone. She was down to earth, keeping him grounded. They were the perfect blend to complement each other as they strolled leisurely back to the hotel. Time was on their side tonight and every night.

  Chapter Twenty-Nine

“Do you want to get some breakfast?” Chloe propped herself up in bed, leaning on her side while her head rested in her hands.

“Nope.” Roman had his back turned away from her. She watched, captivated by his muscles. He was perfectly cut, ripped in all the right places. He was her carved drummer god.

  “No?” She quizzed. “Coffee? Anything?”

Roman’s favorite meal of the day was usually breakfast.

“I’m not hungry.” He spun around to face her as he pulled a gray t-shirt over his head. He gave her a fuzzy smile, but his expression was cloudy and vague.

“Oh.” Chloe pulled the covers up over her naked body. “Well do you mind if I go get something to eat with Emelia?”

Roman narrowed his eyes as if he were suddenly suspicious of Chloe’s request. “Where?”

She shrugged. “Just downstairs I guess.”

“It’s fine, whatever you want to do.” Roman plucked his wallet from the bedside table, along with his phone.

He shoved them both into the back pockets of his jeans. His hair was still damp around the edges from where he had just gotten out of the shower. They had enjoyed a hot and spicy romp in the bed right before.

Chloe’s legs were still wobbly and wavy from the intense heat of sex with Roman. He had a profound effect on her. She was still glowing in the aftermath of orgasm and propelling downwards from her climb into the sky of sexual bliss.

She noticed that Roman’s hands were shaking. Why was he so jittery and jumpy? His demeanor was distant, almost aloof. She was weary to ask him what was bothering him because she didn’t know if he might snap at her. She didn’t want to ruin the peaceful moment between them that always came after their amazing sex.

Whatever the reason for his odd behavior she decided to push it to the back of her mind and let it go. Perhaps he was just anxious about tonight being the last show. The end of each tour was stressful and difficult for everyone involved.

There were tons of things to iron out and wrap up. People’s moods could shift at the drop of a hat without any provocation. It was an emotional time. The tide ebbed and flowed. Everyone was exhausted and ready to go home, but at the same time, nostalgia sunk in and reality hit. They wouldn’t see each other every day, and there would be no more adoring fans shouting from sweaty arenas every night.

“I’m going to meet with Burt and the rest of the guys to discuss tonight’s show ending,” he mentioned in a flat, monotoned voice as he leaned over the edge of the bed to gently kiss the top of Chloe’s forehead. Then, without another word, he silently went out the door without glancing back.

Chloe hurtled her legs over the edge, tossing herself out of bed. She raised her hands above her head in frustration. “Okay...” she said to the empty air. “See you later then.”

She got dressed and met Emelia downstairs for coffee at a quaint and charming little bakery that was attached to the hotel’s lobby.

Chloe ordered a latte and a blueberry scone, plopping down into the little bistro seat across from Emelia with a heavy sigh.

“Is everything alright?” Emelia gave her a smile through curious eyes as she took a sip of her own coffee, always black with no cream or sugar.

“I guess.” Chloe glanced out the window with a vacant expression, watching the traffic go by. “Roman is just acting a little weird this morning.” She trusted Emelia and valued her opinion and advice. She never held back with her best friend. She always tried to remain open and honest, keeping the perspective as real as it got.

“Weird?” Emelia made a sour face. “Like how?”

Chloe shrugged. “Just kind of distant this morning. We had sex, and then he started acting reserved after that.”

“Hmm.” Emelia pressed her lips together, pondering. “Did he take off for the meeting with Burt and the other guys?”

Chloe nodded. “Yep.” She plucked a piece of the top of the muffin into her mouth, but strangely enough in her hazy state of mind, it didn’t have much of a taste.

“I wouldn’t worry about it.” Emelia waved her hand dismissively, briefly closing her eyes.

“Really?” There was a ring of hope in Chloe’s voice as she sat up straight.

“No,” Emelia propped her elbow on the table. “He’s probably just stressed out about tonight being the last show. Trevor was kind of jittery this morning too before he left.”

Chloe allowed her shoulders to slack with relief. “Thank you for saying that. It really makes me feel better about the situation. I thought that it probably had something to do with the show too.”

After they finished their coffee, Emelia and Chloe walked back to the room Chloe shared with Roman. To her surprise, Roman was already back from the meeting with his manager.

“Roman?” Chloe quizzed. “What are you doing here?”

He had a worried expression shadowing the features on his face. He was fretting nervously as he shifted his weight.

“I need to talk to you,” he mentioned in a firm tone. “Pr
ivately,” he added as he flicked a glance at Emelia.

Chloe’s heart plummeted through her shoe and splattered on the floor in front of her feet. At least, that’s what it felt like, and the breath suspended in her lungs, freezing there and unable to release.

  “Okay...” she finally managed.

Emelia skirted from the room, giving Chloe a sympathetic glance as she closed the door behind her, sealing Chloe inside like a tomb. She had no idea what to expect, but given the somber expression on Roman’s face, it couldn’t be news of sunshine and roses.

  Chapter Thirty

Roman could barely swallow as he approached Chloe across the room. His throat felt so tight and swollen as if someone was invisibly strangling him. His tongue was gritty, like sandpaper.

“I need to show you something,” he confessed with a wild and frenzied tone reflecting in his voice.

Chloe’s face was ashen with anxiety. “Okay,” she visibly gulped.

“Follow me,” he whispered, taking her hand. To his relief, she agreed even though he wasn't very forthcoming of information.

They left the hotel and journeyed down the street, hand in hand. To Roman’s surprise, she didn’t ask him any questions along the way. She remained stoically silent. If she didn’t press him, the suspense would build higher until it exploded, but that was the way Roman preferred it to be. Energy buzzed between them, and he was grateful she kept herself together and didn’t pepper him with questions. He swore his body was coming apart at the seams, his nervousness through the roof.

As soon as they reached the Eiffel Tower in its grandiose, magnificent poise, Roman halted his pace and took a deep breath.

Chloe glanced at him; confusion splashed across her features. Her curious blue eyes were as wide as the Seine River as she wordlessly questioned him with a curious expression.

Roman’s heart was pounding in his chest. He didn’t know if he could go through with this, but in his mind, it was now or never. He had come so far to turn back now. His destination was right in front of him, but at the same time, it was only the beginning of his journey, a path that he never wanted to walk alone or trail across without Chloe by his side.

He squeezed her delicately feminine, dainty hands in his enormous ones. God, he hoped this made her happy. That soon, there would be tears of joy in her eyes.

“What are we doing here?” Her voice cracked.

Roman didn’t answer. He couldn’t answer. Everything was happening in slow motion. People pushed past him, robotically and mechanically going about their days, entranced in their own little worlds.

In one fluid motion, he got down on one knee. He glanced up at Chloe. The sun was reflecting through her silky blonde hair. The rays of the sunlight were glowing through her hair, providing an illusion that she was an angel as she gazed down at him.

“Chloe...” he began. “I love you so much. I’ve loved you since Hawaii. I never want to spend another day of my life without you.”

Chloe’s worry faded and gradually shifted to confusion, then triumphant joy as she realized exactly what was happening. Glassy tears pooled in her eyes and ran down her pinkened cheeks.

“Oh my... Roman...” her voice trailed off as a sob took their place.

Roman could then see a crowd of onlookers beginning to form a circle of curiosity around the two of them, but he didn’t care. He only had eyes for Chloe.

“You make me feel so amazing,” he confessed. “Every time I’m with you, I feel like we could conquer the world together. Will you be my wife?”

The question hung in the air like a feather fluttering towards the ground. He held a tiny open box from Tiffany’s exposing a beautiful and flashy center princess cut diamond, proudly on display for Chloe’s approval.

He held his breath and tensed every muscle in his body as he waited for her answer. If she said no, the entire world would know about it within hours. Worse, he’d feel it in his heart for the rest of his life.

  Please don’t say no.

Chloe began to nod at first, apparently unable to populate any words from her brain.

“Yes...” she croaked, nodding gleefully through sniffs and tears. “Yes, I’ll marry you!” She wrapped her arms around him as she squeezed tightly.

He swung her around as euphoria took over. Placing her back on her feet to the cheer of the crowd, he took the ring from the box and placed it gently on her finger.

Chloe beamed, flashing the diamond around as she swirled her hand in a circle of disbelief that any of this was actually happening. Roman kissed the joyful tears off her cheeks.

“I just couldn’t wait another second to ask you,” he breathed into her neck. “I can’t wait to announce the engagement at the last show tonight,” he confessed.

“And I can’t wait to be your wife,” Chloe said with pride, glancing down at her ring with elation.

He had come full circle. The beginning of the tour had come with such a bleak perspective, but he had made it through the storm to once again see the rainbow on the other side.

Chloe was his pot of gold, and he would love her for all of eternity.
