Another Dance

“Tell me,” Cristian said as he looped his arm over Kaito’s head and brandished his phone. “Where should we go?”
“You don’t even have destinations in mind yet?”
“The United States is very big.”
Kaito laughed, fitting himself more snugly under Cristian’s arm. This felt like a fantasy. He was living in a fantasy, and soon he’d wake up.
“Have you been to the Grand Canyon?” he asked.
“No.”
“That first.” He watched Cristian type dates into Google Flights. “People think it’s just a bunch of rocks, but it’s…” he trailed off, considering. “It’s not something that can be described. You can’t understand without going.”
Cristian smiled. “I trust you.”
“Where else?” Kaito mused. “We could go glamping in the Smokies.”
Cristian turned to look at him. “Glamping? What is that word? I’ve not heard it.”
Kaito was chuckling again. “It means ‘glam camping.’ You stay somewhere nice in the wilderness rather than pitching a tent.”
“Ooh,” Cristian cooed in understanding. “I like this idea. Our…glamp ground must accommodate Luna.”
“Of course.”
“What about your cats?” he asked, eyes bright. Kaito shifted in bed. What they were doing was enough of a trial without Kaito’s five cats in tow—Cristian wouldn’t want to be bogged down by them.
But then again, Kaito had made a lot of wrong assumptions about Cristian in the past.
“I’ll talk to Beverly,” he answered noncommittally.
Cristian looked down at the cat on his chest and ran his thumbs over his cheeks. “Do you want to go to the Smokies?” Luna purred, content with exactly where she was. “Maybe make new cat friends?”
Kaito’s heart was like a firecracker in his chest, popping and sizzling as emotion wailed through him.
“What about you?” Cristian asked Kaito. “Is there anywhere you wanted to go?”
The same feeling he had on their first night overcame him. Kaito didn’t look at Cristian when he said it, keen on pretending to inspect flight times. “I’d go anywhere with you.”
