Tears of happiness sprang to her eyes. “Yes,” she said. “I think that’s exactly what it means.”

“I can do that,” he said, tracing her full lower lip with his thumb. “And, if you want, I can stay here,” he said. “I probably won’t be missing anything back home and we can--”

“No!” Lirana exclaimed. “I want to go with you when you go.”

  “Even if he’s there?”

“Kyla said that there was no way he’d ever get out. And your brother has the toxin. And...I want our adventures. In fact, I’d like to start them tonight,” she said shyly.

He pulled the pins from her long brown hair and let it fall down her back, combing his fingers through it gently. “I don’t want to rush you.”

She smiled, her violet eyes happy and alight. “You haven’t. You’ve been more patient than I thought any man could be. But I’ve waited my whole life to be with my mate. I don’t want to wait anymore.”

He curved his body down to hers, kissing her deeply. “Tell me what you need,” he murmured against her soft lips.

She pulled back. “I honestly don’t know. Could you...will just hold me when it hurts?”

Danny looked down at her in confusion. “Lirana...why would it hurt?”

She looked up at him, seeming equally confused. “It always hurts for women. This isn’t for us to enjoy.”

Danny’s jaw went tight and she took a small step back. Had she made him angry? He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

“Lirana, how do you feel when we kiss?” he asked once he was sure he had his anger with her ex under control.

  “I...it feels perfect,” she said.

“Then that’s how it will feel when we make love.” He put his hands on her upper arms, drawing her against his chest softly. “If I start to hurt you, I want you to tell me. I plan to give you pleasure, not pain.”

  “But women don’t--”

  “My woman will.”

The look in his eyes took her breath away, possessive and yet gentle at the same time. Lirana trembled for him.

  “Do you promise?” he asked.

  “I will.”

“Good.” Danny traced the smooth, golden skin of her cheek. “Because I’ve got a full night planned for you.”

If Darabin had spoken those words, she would have been terrified. With Danny, she was eager. He skimmed the big shirt over her head, looking down at her naked body for the first time.

“God, you’re so beautiful,” Danny said, sweeping his hands down her sides, getting a sense of her slight body. She wasn’t very curvy, but he didn’t care. Her breasts were small, just enough to fit into the palms of his hands. He cupped them, rubbing her nipples with his thumbs until they budded and hardened.

Lirana felt a spike of sensation all the way down to the core of her body when he did that. When she gave an amazed gasp, he smiled at her.

“What do you think?” he asked, pinching one of her nipples very lightly as he ducked his head and kissed down the side of her neck.

  “I...I can’t think.”

His laugh was warm on her skin. “That’s a good sign.”

Danny ran his tongue over her pounding pulse and her hands tightened, fisting the material of his shirt.

“You can take it off, if you want to.” He was going to let her dictate every move he made this time. When she was more confident, he could start showing off. For now, she needed the reins.

Lirana tugged it up, standing on her tiptoes to skim the shirt over his head. He flashed her a grin as she let the shirt drop, skimming him with her eyes. He wasn’t scarred like the other warriors she’d seen. No claw or bite marks, just evenly tanned skin, muscle, and a light dusting of blonde hair. He was perfect.

His breathing was rough as she looked him over. Again, her violet gaze was palpable, ratcheting up his heart rate and making him nearly desperate for her hands on him. Lirana reached out and swept her palms down his chest; Danny caught his breath, going tense. She looked up at him.

“Go on,” he said. “Just feels good, baby.”

She loved it when he called her that. She trailed her fingers down the line of golden hair to his belly button and then lower, pushing his pants off of his lean hips. Fully hard, he was intimidating. How could this be anything but painful? She swallowed hard, her nerves getting the best of her for a moment.

Danny took her hand and led her to the bed. She lay down, biting her lower lip, trying not to be tense. But he didn’t yank her legs apart. Instead, he lay down beside her, cupping one hand around the back of her neck and giving her more of those scorching kisses.

“I wanna kiss every inch of you,” he said when he drew back.

“Where...where else would you kiss me?” she whispered.

  “Can I show you?”

She was nodding before she was even aware of it. Danny took her mouth again, his tongue sweeping against hers in a grateful kiss. Then his mouth was moving down her neck again, alternating kisses, licks, and gentle bites until she moaned out loud. Lirana clapped one hand over her mouth, but Danny pulled it away before he continued down, kissing her collarbone, her shoulders and then heat filled her when his lips closed over one of her nipples.

  “Oh, gods,” she whispered. “Danny...”

“Is it oKyla?” he asked, wanting to be careful.

  “Yes!”

“Ah, good girl.” His tongue swept over her puckered nipple and then he blew cool air over it, causing it to tighten even more.

He moved over her finally, bracing himself on his hands and knees as he teased her breasts. Her hands tightened on the blankets. The fire between her thighs was back again and it was all she could do not to squirm beneath him.

“What are you doing?” she gasped out when he moved down again, trailing kisses down her stomach.

Danny raised his head, meeting her eyes. “I said every inch, baby.”

When he pressed those same languid kisses to the inside of her thighs, her whole body jerked toward him. He put one big hand on her hip to hold her steady, but it wasn’t frightening.

“Part your legs for me?” he asked.

Almost without thinking, Lirana did. He knelt between her spread legs and gripped her hips, pulling her down to his mouth. He’d really meant everywhere. Lirana was almost positive that this was forbidden. Or at least, it had been.

She looked down, wondering what he was going to do. Everyone knew that women didn’t experience pleasure like men--

“Oh, Gods!” Lirana cried out when his tongue snaked over the bud above her slit.

  “Good?”

  “I...do it again.”

He obliged, flicking her eager little clit until she cried out again, her body bucking upwards.

“What are you doing to me?” she managed to say.

“Giving you all the pleasure you can stand.” Carefully, he slid one finger into her. She was wet now and more giving.

Her head snapped up off of the pillow, looking at the man between her legs. The muscles of his shoulders and back were moving languidly, the sheen of sweat red from the firelight. He looked like a foreign god of pleasure. For all she knew, he was.

Once he had a rhythm, he began to lick her again, driving her closer and closer to the edge. Soon he slid another finger inside. She was soaking wet, but she was also tight and he wanted her to be ready for him.

Lirana whimpered, her head tossing on the pillow. The pleasure was astounding, incapacitating, agonizing because she knew that there was more to it. It was building to something unknown and almost frightening. Danny’s fingers were moving steadily and she could feel her body relaxing to accommodate them. It had never happened like this before.

“Do you want to come for me?” he asked, looking up at her.

“I...I don’t know how!” she cried out desperately. “I just want you inside me. I need you to ease this ache, please!”

Danny didn’t need to hear more. His cock had never been so hard in his entire life. He could feel it
throbbing with every beat of his heart. He moved up, caging her body in with his, reaching down to grip his cock and line it up with her.

Her hips were working up off the bed now and her velvet softness brushed against him, making him groan.

“Be still for me for just a second, baby. Otherwise this isn’t gonna last as long as I want it to.”

Panting, Lirana tried to do as he’d asked. When the wide crown of his cock breached her, she went tense.

“No, no,” Danny said, his own voice desperate now. “Stay with me, oKyla?” He braced on his elbows, cupping her face in his hands. “I would never hurt you, Lirana.”

He waited until the panic had left her eyes and then he moved forward slowly, filling her to capacity and seating himself deep. His eyes never left hers and when he was buried to the hilt, her lips parted in surprise.

  “Danny, it doesn’t hurt.”

He let out his breath in relief. “I’m not going to stop until you come with me,” he said, burying one hand in her sweaty hair. “You’re going to know pleasure when I’m done.”

When he began to move, she gasped. She could feel every inch of him, but it didn’t hurt. Instead, it stoked the fire that had been building since their first kiss. His mouth covered hers again and she gripped the back of his head, both of them panting as he thrust deeper.

“God, Lirana, you feel so good,” he groaned against her mouth. “I’ll never get enough of you.”

She tightened her grip, knowing that she’d never have enough of him either. The feeling was building again, but with him over her, working so hard to please her, it wasn’t frightening. When the sensations hit a crescendo, Lirana screamed in amazed pleasure.

Danny shoved harder into her when he felt her clench around him. He felt her orgasm crest over her and it sped his own along. Her pussy tightened again and again as he gritted his teeth, trying to hold out. It wasn’t easy. The ache for her had become sharper even as her pleasure washed over him.

“Danny! Oh, gods, yes, yes, yes!” Her head fell back and he buried his face against her exposed neck.

  “Ah, Lirana, I can’t...I’m gonna....”

“Yes! I want to feel you too,” she gasped.

That was all it took. Danny came harder than he ever had before, pushing, thrusting, fucking her harder than he’d meant to. She gripped his shoulders and arched to meet every movement though. Lirana screamed again when his orgasm fueled hers.

When it was finally over, Danny used the last of his strength to roll over. He didn’t want to crush her. Lirana clung to him and he wrapped his arms around her. He still hadn’t managed to catch his breath.

“Is this what it’s always like?” he asked between breaths. “With mates?”

She looked up at him, violet eyes fierce and sated. “I hope so.”

  Epilogue:

“Is that the declaration?” Danny asked when he walked into the throne room six months later.

Nameer held it up. “Yes. A signed document from the Seeban king that they will seek no war with us again.”

“They sent you Sahir’s head after the failed attack,” Kyla said wryly. “You’d think the declaration would be superfluous.”

“I’ll take what I can get,” Nameer informed her. “Though who knows how long it will last.”

Kyla stood, placing her hands on the small of her back and wincing. Danny looked at her massive belly and wisely kept his mouth shut. She was due to deliver twins any day now and she was clearly over the whole pregnancy thing.

“When are you and Lirana going to have kids?” she demanded. “Someone else should have to share my pain.”

“I’m sure there are a few women in Khaytab who are due soon,” Danny said. “And if you’d hurry up, I could get going back to New York.” He hadn’t wanted to leave until he could meet his former partner...and current Queen’s...children. Danny was kind of a sucker for kids.

“Do not rush my woman,” Nameer said sternly. “Or my cubs.”

“It’s bad enough that the time slip sped things up for me,” Kyla said. “And what are you in such a hurry to get back to New York for, anyway? What are you planning?”

“Adventure,” Danny said simply, watching as Lirana stepped into the room and smiled at him. “A life time of it.”

  Meanwhile, in New York

Darabin stewed, biding his time. He was still bound to the bed. A flex of his muscles could have broken the ties easily, but what was the point? There was no way out of the room. He’d tried dozens of times. And it only excited the humans when he shifted. Or half shifted. He couldn’t manage his full tiger form anymore. Maybe it was something in the clear liquid they were dripping into his veins.

  But he could be patient.

  He could wait.

He didn’t want Khaytab anymore. Or Seeba either. He wanted to take everything that belonged to the humans who had dared to do this to him.

  He wanted Earth.

  Sammi

“This is the chance of a lifetime, babe,” he said. “Not everybody gets invited to serve aboard the Black Pelican. It's an honor to be asked. It really is. It means that somebody is paying attention to my work.”

I leaned back on the couch and sighed. I knew what Neil did was important. His work mattered. And I knew it fulfilled him in a hundred different ways. He was passionate about his work and it lit him up inside unlike most anything else in this world. I loved seeing him so excited, but sometimes it left me feeling a little – empty.

Sometimes, I thought his work made him happier and more excited than even I did.

I was proud of him, of course. And I wanted to see him succeed and fulfill every last dream and plan he had. But sometimes, I wanted to feel like I was included in those dreams and plans. I didn't think I was an especially needy or clingy girl, but it was hard to feel included when he was off on this ship or that, sometimes for two to three weeks at a time
and sometimes only finding out he was leaving the night before he shipped off.

Still, I tried to be understanding. I knew that opportunities sometimes came up at the last minute and he had to be flexible – as did I. So, I tried to never give him too much grief about it when he had to go. He had something he was working toward. Something he wanted to do with his life. Something that would help us build our life. Together.

He'd promised that eventually, things would calm down and he wouldn't have to be at sea as often. Once he'd completed his research, he could continue most of it from an observation post on land. At least, that's what he'd told me. But I also knew he loved being on the sea. He loved shipping out and being part of a team. Part of me knew he would never give it up entirely. He'd never be happy confined to dry land.

It was something I had to prepare myself for. He seemed to believe that he could be happy on land – but I knew better. The ocean was in his blood. He never felt as free as when he was on the ocean. And as long as he was home more often than he was at sea, I could learn to live with it.

“So, how long will you be gone this time?” I asked.

He cleared his throat, shuffled his feet, and refused to meet my eyes – which was my first clue that he was about to drop a bomb on me.

  “Nine weeks,” he said.

My mouth fell open and I stared at him. “Nine weeks? Nine?”

It was not only the longest he'd ever been away, but it conflicted with plans we'd already made. Plans we'd made months ago.

“My mother is expecting us to visit, Neil,” I said. “We booked our plane tickets months ago! You can't do this to me.”

He shook his head. “I'm sorry, babe,” he said. “I really am. I totally forgot about it when they asked me to come aboard. I wasn't even thinking.”

“Neil!” I almost shouted. “I haven't seen my mother in almost a year. She was expecting us to be out there. She wanted to spend time with us – especially since we didn't make it out there last year.”
