  About The Author/About The Translator

  Recognized as one of the important Quebec feminist writers and the recent winner of the prestigious Prix Athanase-David for the body of her work, France Théoret was born in Montreal. She holds a doctorate in French from the University of Sherbrooke. After having taught for 19 years at the Cegep level, she now devotes herself solely to writing. She is the author of numerous books, including the translated Guernica titles The Tangible Word and Girls Closed In. La femme du stalinien is the third part of a trilogy that includes L’Homme qui peignait Staline and Les Apparatchiks vont à la mer noire.

  Luise von Flotow is a literary translator and translation studies professor at the University of Ottawa. She works from German and French to English, and has translated six previous titles for Guernica, including Théoret’s Girls Closed In. She has translated two other works by Théoret: Such a Good Education (2010) and The Man Who Painted Stalin (1991).
