  She took a long, deep, breath absorbing the well of passion that he plumbed inside her. He brought the abundance of her love closer to the surface with each kiss. She gasped and groaned as her climax began to unfold.

  "My beloved," she whispered, threading her hands through his hair.

  His tongue increased in vibration as his wet fingers slid inside and pressed against her inner desire. All at once she came, like a flood of warm oil spreading over her body. Her mouth dropped open as the pulsing pleasure beat to the rhythm of her heart. Her eyes widened as she watched the glistening light dance on the ceiling above her.

  Then, they were dancing on the wind and rain and rising sea, swirling together on the waves that crested and broke and crested again. Thunder and lightning flashed across the stormy sky. Maia and Zephyr were the storm, they were the sea, they were the power of life and death and rebirth. They looked at each other in the space between time, without words, without symbols, and knew each other to the very core.

  As Maia’s teeth slid from Zephyr, and Zephyr's teeth slid from her, they let out a deep breath and parted. She rolled onto her back. Her body still throbbed with the knowledge of Zephyr. He had gone to the deepest depths of her being and she had become new. Stronger and more powerful then she had been before.

  The mating of two dragons fated by love, across time and space, had never happened before on this planet. She giggled as she leaned up on her elbow and turned to him, resting against his chest. He stroked her hair and kissed her forehead.

  "So much beauty, so much power," she said with a sigh.

  "Now we must rest, my beloved. For tomorrow, we will bring an end to all wars and witness the dawning of a new day for the people of Earth.”

  Chapter 21

  Zephyr stood on a podium before the microphones and reporters gathered around to hear him. For the first time in his life, he knew exactly how to speak from his heart.

  "People of Earth. Long ago, the dragons of Dragonia escaped the death of our star. We searched across the galaxy to find a new home and finally found Earth. When we encountered the primitive creatures living here at the time, we knew they had great promise. So, we seeded this world with the souls of our ancestors, hoping that someday Dragon Souls would be born among you.

  “We slept for a million years, reawakening just a few years ago. We found that the human race had evolved into the glorious and beautiful beings that you are today. But unfortunately, we found that our beloved children had been infected by our ancient enemy.

  “The vampires had somehow made it here to feast on the blood of humanity. They corrupted your society with greed, hatred, and suspicion. We tried to reason with the vampires, to ask them to change their dietary habits, but they refused. They gain their power from drinking the blood of intelligent beings and by taking their food by force. So, they would not compromise.

  “These last several months of confusion and murder and disappearances have been the result of the vampires’ retaliation against the dragons. When we saw the acceleration of their destruction, we redoubled our efforts on finding a vaccination that would prevent vampires from feeding on humans.

  “We were ultimately successful in this. As a byproduct of the distribution of the vaccine, the animals on this planet are now also immune. If a vampire drinks the blood of a human or animal, they will die. I have been informed that the vampires have taken stores of blood, have boarded their ancient ship, and have left Earth forever.

  “I implore you to lay down the weapons you point at each other. The existence of vampires and dragons is not a lie, or a conspiracy created by another country or faction. Vampires and dragons exist. But while the vampires leave, the dragons of Dragonia will remain. We do not wish to have power over your people. We do not wish to influence your decisions. We do not wish for anything other than the chance to live at peace with you.

  “We will do whatever we can in support the development of love and peace and prosperity on this planet. But we ask you to remain as you are and go on with your lives as they once were. We know that it is difficult to pick up and move forward after such a shocking revelation, but progress and change will be much smoother for you if it comes slowly and without fear or greed.

  “We know that the heart of man is noble and wise. We know that the potential for brotherly love is the driving force of your greatest power. Set aside the influence of the vampires and search deeply within your dragon hearts. You will find the true power of your love. This will heal the world and will create the reality you long for.

  “You may wonder why we seeded this planet in the first place. The dying of our sun lowered our female birth rate until there was almost none left. The result of us scattering our DNA across this planet not only helped humanity evolve, it also created humans who have enough latent dragon DNA to carry the soul of a dragon. your evolution, but we hope that you can look at us as benefactors who have always wanted the very best for all of you. From my dragon heart to yours. I bid you love and peace."

  Zephyr bowed slightly before the cameras and turned to stride away. He found Maia waiting backstage with Waverley. She wrapped an arm around him and kissed his cheek.

  "How did I do?" he asked.

  "That was perfect. You truly have a strong heart."

  "Do think it will work?"

  "Without a shadow of a doubt."

  Chapter 22

  Maia sat at the middle of long teak table, looking out at the smiling faces of all her friends and family. She raised her glass of champagne to those who had gathered to celebrate the housewarming for the House of Tides.

  "Thank you all so much for coming."

  “We wouldn't have missed it," Penelope said.

  “We should all move to a tropical island," Flora said, rubbing her rounding stomach.

  "We won't be moving the House of Storms anytime soon," Hanish said.

  "You are all welcome to come visit us whenever you'd like,” Zephyr said. “There is room for everyone.”

  Maia and Zephyr had purchased a tropical resort on an island in the South Pacific, similar to the one where they had spent their first days together. After getting confirmation from the mating analysis, they had come to find that the reason the analysis had been inconclusive was exactly for the reason that Zephyr had postulated. After they made love, the interference from the other dragons was no longer a factor.

  Maia rubbed her rounding belly and smiled at her friends. Her brother sat to her left and Zephyr to her right. On one side of the table sat the House of Flames, and on the other side the House of Storms. The other houses were also assembled on tables close by.

  Even Current and Evangeline were there. He had been completely cooperative in the transfer of power and hadn't made any attempt to usurp Maia's position. The power of love was truly that strong. He was even spending time with Waverley.

  Maia has been reluctant to let him into her life at first, but eventually he proved himself and Maia came to understand that he was an important part of his daughter's life. He lived in a small apartment in town and spent most of his time learning about humans and going out on dates with Evangeline. And no one wanted to punish him for the rest of his life for his mistakes, now that he had made amends for them.

  Maia smiled at Zephyr and looked out across the beach at the other tables filled with the dragons of the other houses. She gazed out at the ocean and then at the high chairs with each of her children seated in them. Everything she had ever wanted had come to pass and her people had found a new world to call their own.

  “I want to take a moment to acknowledge my gratitude for the beautiful life we all share. After my mate's stirring speech on human media, and the immediate wave of love that washed over the world, the tides of peace have been rising ever since.

  “It is a great blessing to be with you all here now. Everything we wished for when we left old Dragonia has come true. The vampires have left humanity in peace, and we are on the precipice of a great and powerful new age for humankind.

  “I want to acknowledge each of you princes of Dragonia: your courage, your strength, and your faith in me to birth our dragonkin, even against the wishes of the elders.

  “I am blessed with the love of my mate Zephyr. My darling, your dedication to our shared mission, despite everything, is what brought us across the finish line to where we now stand. I love you more than words can never express.

  “To all the mothers of dragons now in this world, you are my soul sisters. I love you like a part of myself. And I hope that together we can continue to bring the principles of love, nobility, and honor into the ever-evolving future in this beautiful, abundant world.”

  "Hear, hear," Zephyr said, raising his glass.

  “Hear, hear,” said Penelope and Flora together.

  “Hear, hear,” said JoJo and the rest.

  A tear slid down Maia’s cheek as she listened to her babies coo. All the assembled were such a great joy in her heart. All the dragon children would grow and live together here on Earth. She hoped that all the princes would find their own love and belonging as they founded their houses across the world.

  But for Maia, her future was assured, her love was grounded here and now, and she had everything she had ever wanted.
