"Yes well we already know that's not true.” He stated dryly.

"Yes sir...but there is a very close familial connection between you and this Victor Feral. The DNA could be close enough to make the difference.” She stated.

He stared at her dumbstruck wondering why he hadn’t thought of it. Collin looked to the other lab tech in the room. It was very feasible. As kinfolk his offspring still stood the chance of becoming a Lycanthrope. He’d be able to have much better results from a fetus' stem cells that were partly his own genetic code.

"All right, let's do this then.” He stated.

"Okay, well we need a sample then.” She said. She passed him a small clear jar with a bright orange screw on cap and a white label on the side.

"Great!” He grumbled. He took the jar and headed to the washroom down the hall.

While in the bathroom, Collin let his mind think of things that would help him to get the sample he needed. To his surprise Mica kept drifting into his mind. The young woman was more than just a beautiful girl. She stood for everything he’d wanted and had been cheated from. Kidnapping her was only one step in his plans to wipe out the current race of Lycanthropes.

If he had of been like his brothers, he’d have led the Feral pack. He knew he would have been seen and accepted as an equal within his own family. She’d have been his or at the very least, someone like her. Collin knew he’d been cheated out of what should have been his. All because his own lycanthrope DNA hadn't evolved all the way. That was going to change. If only they could get these experiments to work. Mica was the key and he knew he’d get her back. She belonged to him as far as he was concerned. The Alpha Bitch would be recovered and when she was he’d make her heel to his needs, wants and desires.

With the thoughts of his last encounter with Mica replaying in his mind it didn't take him long to get the sample they needed. His brother's woman had fought him. But in the end it didn't matter and he took what he wanted. She should have been his to begin with he thought as he stepped out of the washroom. Mica carried his child and he knew there would be no way in hell the Ferals would let her abort it. The smile played on his lips as he returned to the Lab with the sample.

It took less than thirty minutes to get the results back from the preliminary test on his sample. For some reason the lead scientist looked nervous as she stood there with her chart. "What's wrong?"Collin demanded.

"Well sir...um well...I'm not sure how to tell you this?"

"Spit it out. I don’t have patience for pussyfooting around. What's wrong?” He snarled.

"Well... your sterile sir.” She said taking a step back.

"I'm what?" For some reason he was positive he heard her wrong.

"Sir, you have no sperm count. You're sterile."

Mica awoke to the clatter of something breaking on the floor. She sat up in alarm and saw the bed beside her empty and rushed out of it to check on Lea. Her child was gone from her crib and Mica's heart raced. A near panic gripped her and she bolted out of the room toward where she’d heard the noise. She stepped into the kitchen which was decorated in an out of date geese motif border and matching ornaments. The walls were painted a pale robin's egg blue which Mica had wanted desperately to modernize. But the funds just had not been there. With its tiny cupboards, white stove and fridge and the kitchen table only big enough for four. She’d known Victor had wanted to build her a huge home that they could raise many children in.

She saw Victor standing in front of the speckled stone looking counter top. He was trying to soothe the squirming form of their daughter within the bouncy chair sitting on it. On the floor, only a few steps away lay the shattered remains of two plates of food. Runny egg yolk was splashed all over the beige coloured tiles. Bits of toast and bacon laid in odd patterns on both the floor and part of the white stove face, with small slabs of egg white over them.

"What happened is Lea all right?” She asked stepping up to Victor.

"Ah...well...sort of.” He said and moved a little to block her view of their daughter from her.

"Victor?” She growled. Mica tried to manoeuvre around him and he got between them, shielding Lea from her view still.

She heard it then, the soft whimper of a pup. She’d heard baby male Lycan's do the same, but never a female and her heart got stuck in her throat. He turned with Lea in his arms. "Oh god Victor!” She said softly. Her baby girl stared at her. Lea's eyes were a luminescent blue, small tiny opaque claws sitting on the very tips of her fingers. Their baby had semi transformed.

"Mica you need to stay calm...” He was saying as she pulled their daughter from his arms.

"What do we do?” She trembled as she held her.

"We tell Frank, but this may be a good thi—."

"How can this be a good thing!” She demanded her voice rising a little as she cut him off.

Victor stepped close to her and moved her loose hair from her face. Her mate looked at her with his large soft eyes. "Mica she's a Feral...she can semi-transform and she’s the first of her kind!” He said. There was a little bit of what sounded more like pride than what should have been worry in his words.

"This isn't natural Victor. This is because of Him!” Her words were like venom as she nearly spat them out.

"Please Mica calm down. We will take this one day at a time.” He tried to calm more than just herself down as she felt the tendrils of her wolf lurking nearer to the surface at the threat to her child. The mother wolf within her would kill for her pup. Would kill even Victor if it thought harm would befall Lea because of him and right now she was having a hard time controlling her wolf.

Only having shifted the one time, Mica never attempted it willingly and she was unsure if it was even something she’d ever be able to control. The first time she believed was in response to the threat to Lea. As her baby relaxed in her arms and cooed as a normal child should instead of the animal whimper, she too calmed slightly.

"When are you going to call Frank?” She asked.

"Well?” He looked at the mess on the floor in their small kitchen as he ran his hand through his hair. "After I clean this up and attempt to make you breakfast again.” He said with a weak smile.

"Let me put her in her chair and I'll help you.” She told him.

As they cleaned, she heard tires pulling into the yard and Victor got tense suddenly. He moved towards the door and opened it as she heard feet making for the small set of steps to the house. Ajei and Frank walked into the kitchen looking upset.

"We got a problem!" Frank said, his voice full of anger and Mica felt her neck hairs prickle.

  "What's wrong?" Victor asked.

"One of our allied packs was hit hard last night in Denver. They suffered heavy losses."

"The Alliance?" Mica ventured. She looked to the man whom Victor explained was their actual Alpha and that he was only Alpha by proxy.

It didn't sit well with her that Victor had done this. But it was too late to break the blood brother bond that had formed between the two. Her mate had only done what he thought was best and the pack did need the power that the Valtors had in order to survive. However, she did not want to have to kowtow to an outsider.

"That's not the only thing." Victor said as he became even tenser.

"Why what happened?" Frank asked now only seeming to notice the mess the two had been cleaning.

"Lea can semi-transform." Victor told them, and Mica saw the look pass between Frank and Ajei.

"When did this happen and exactly what took place?" Frank asked. His tone was demanding, it told everyone in the room it was their Alpha who wanted answers.

Victor explained what had happened and Mica sat there and listened to them debate on what to do about it. She was simply too tired this morning to argue with their ideas. Frank informed them that Ajei would stay behind with her until the emergency meeting at the hall was concluded. They needed to prepare for a counter attack to aid their allies in the Amalgamation. Frank beli
eved to let this go would be seen as a weakness and more attacks would soon follow.

"Mica I'll call you to check in." Victor told her. He kissed her gently on the lips and she felt the heat in her rise as her wolf wanted him. The smell of her mate had her beast ready and willing. Yet Mica couldn't bear the thought of being touched by him, his face so much like his brothers. The feeling hurt her and she felt herself tense in response to her mind replaying the events with Collin.

After the men left, Mica fixed coffee for herself and Ajei. The other woman was soft spoken yet had a sense of power about her. They sat down at the table and as Mica spooned sugar into her coffee cup, she saw Ajei scrutinize her. "You haven't told him what has happened to you yet?” She more stated then asked.

  "I—"

"You need to tell him that his brother raped you Mica, or it will tear you both apart.” She said. Ajei stared at her, the concern reflected in her eyes.

"How did you know?”Mica asked. The tears formed in her eyes again at the thought of someone knowing. Mica felt ashamed that Collin was able to force himself on her. That she somehow could have stopped him if only she’d fought harder.

"Mica it's not your fault. The man is on a power trip and you were his victim. You're not the one to be blamed here.” she said softly.

Mica knew in her heart Ajei was right, but it still didn't abate the guilt and shame she felt inside.

None of this made any sense to Collin. How the hell could he be sterile, after all Mica was pregnant. As he waited for the retesting of her last blood samples, he paced in his office with a glass of bourbon in his hand. There had been no way it was anyone else’s. No one had been left alone with her without being watched on the surveillance cameras other than himself.

The soft knock at the door brought him from his thoughts. He nodded his head to one of his bodyguards to answer it. Doctor Martine stepped into the room looking just as perplexed as he’d been the last time he seen him. The man looked nervously at him without saying anything. "Well!" Collin snarled impatiently.

"The results keep coming back positive sir. However, I think I know why."

  "Well why?"

"It's a little complicated to explain. But basically given the degree her DNA had been evolving at, it could have caused an increase in the pregnancy hormone without her actually being pregnant."

"So she's not..." somehow he felt cheated yet again. His grip tightened on his glass.

"Well we wouldn't know for sure without more blood samples.” Doctor Martine said and stood there fidgeting.

"Very well when you have some more information make sure you don't screw it up again!"

Collin watched the man leave in a hurry. He’d thoughts of firing him, but knew it was hard to get people to work for him on these kinds of projects. Doctor Martine had a bit of a scandal he’d needed to disappear, and Collin had made it happen. Like everyone here, their lives could be ruined with the information he held over them. The doctor knew he wouldn’t hesitate to do just that.

Collin's cell rang suddenly and startled him. He stared at it for a moment before he answered it. "Yes?"

  "It's me, I have news."

"Are you on a secure line?"

"Yes, I'm in Carson on the cell you gave me."

  "Go ahead."

"Mica is back with Victor.” Collin’s contact said.

"I see...how long has she been there for?"

"Only since last night and they brought a human male with them. A LT. Adams. What do you want me to do?"

"I want a sample of Mica's blood. Can you do that?"

"Yeah, I can do one better than that. I already have one from both her and the baby. The Alpha wants a CSI to look at it."

"Okay divide the samples in half. Send one to this CSI and bring the other to your contact man in Brighton." Collin ordered.

  "Anything else?"

"Yes when I tell you to, be ready to bring Mica and the baby to me. I will supply you with what you need."

"All right until then." The line went dead.

His mole on the inside of the Feral Pack was reliable and well placed. It amazed him what a bad gambling habit could do to one's self-respect. Not even Greg knew about this contact. It was how Collin had known that Mica was a she-wolf and how he’d gotten Victor away from his mate on their first night as a Bonded pair.

When he’d learned she was pregnant and that Victor didn't know, he had needed to step up his plans. The attack that had killed his baby brother Mike and had nearly taken care of Victor, as well as the fact that they had allied with the Valtors from down south, had all come from his insider. Now again the advantage was his. As he grabbed his coat, he knew that he’d have to ensure nothing happened to take his prize from him again. All his hard work depended on Mica.

With the disappearance of one of the containers of the Hybrid serum he was developing, Collin knew that this Lt. Adams was a mole of some sort. The container had disappeared the same day he took Mica. They were still trying to get all the man's information unraveled. It seemed he’d some very excellent fake credentials. Everything about him had been a lie, even his faked up smuggling charge that Collin had painstakingly had his connections take care of. Now all they had was that Lt. Adams was definitely not his name and that he was working here covertly.

  Chapter 23

Victor had watched as Frank left the meeting. He headed for his small cramped office and was prepared to go home. Leaving Mica alone was not something he wanted to do, but it was necessary. He along with three of his pack would be part of an attack on the offending wolves who had taken on the Denver pack. He’d tossed the idea of having Mica stay with Jenni, but that would put her in the same house as Scott. That idea he didn't like. Jenni had insisted Scott stay with them and knowing that Jake could keep a close eye on him, Victor had agreed. Now he was having second thoughts about that idea.

There were others in the pack that would defend their Alpha Bitch with their lives, but none he trusted more than his Beta and his wife. He decided that Chris Smith and his wife Rachel would do until he could get Scott placed in his own housing unit. Victor picked up the phone and dialed Chris. He heard a slight echo of the ring on it as he listened.

  "Yeah?" Chris answered.

"It's Victor. I need you to do me a favour.”.

  "Sure." He said without hesitation.

"I am going to bring Mica and the baby to stay with you for a couple of days. I need you to keep her safe.”

"It would be our pleasure. Rachel will be thrilled to have a baby in the house." Chris said as a bit of static played on the line.

"All right I'll bring them over there tonight after supper."

  "See you then."

Victor knew Mica would be less than pleased, but he needed to know she was with someone. She’d just have to bear with these conditions until things calmed down. He grabbed his truck keys and headed out the door of the small hall. There was still much he’d need to do to prepare before he left and that would leave him little time to spend with Mica and Lea before he left.

  * * * ~~~ * * *

Frank sat in his car and looked at the intercepted cell phone call dialogue from Jake's house and then up to Max. The ex-seal and the other two adopted Lycan's were running taps on everyone's phone lines for him. They got an out of country call going out from Jake's home early tonight. It had been a cell phone call to Argentina and had only lasted a few moments.

"You want us to dispose of him?" Max asked.

"No...not yet we need to find out more about this package and what they with Mica. Put a trace on the number called. And for god sakes don't let it slip to Victor or he will kill Scott himself." Frank said.

Ajei had said Scott was vital to this war, he and Mica would be the ones to turn the tides in their favour, but she didn't elaborate on it. She never elaborated, having told him a long time ago that it would alter the outcome to tell him everything she saw. And that was not a good thing no matter how tragic the
event. Fate was fate.

"Well we put a tracer on it already but have been having a hard time triangulating it. It's a secured number." Rick explained and Frank started the car.

"All right get in contact with me as soon as you have it and gentlemen I don't need to tell you how sensitive this might be.” He told them. The three men exited the car and returned to their own. They had met on the desolate stretch of country road nearly five miles outside of the Feral's home territory.

Frank turned his car to head back into the town and couldn't help the sinking feeling in his stomach. Something else beside this war was brewing, and it wasn't sitting well with him. He dialed Ajei as he drove to check in. They both were hoping there would be good news from the sweat the women were having tomorrow. As the phone rang and rang he got an even more uneasy feeling as it went to voice mail. Ajei always answered his calls, unless she was in a sweat lodge. However, the sweat was not supposed to be today. Something was wrong and as he gunned the engine. The car kicked up dust behind him in a large billow of light brown in the early evening dimness.

Frank drove at breakneck speeds as he pulled into the small town and headed toward the lodge that they were staying at while they were here. The place was a log cabin with a small veranda and had old wooden steps that creaked when he stepped on them. It was extremely rustic and Ajei loved it even more than their three story home that he’d built to house their large family. Now as he bolted out of his car, he smelt blood and his heart raced in his chest as he bolted into the house. Frank took a strong sniff as he did. No other smells were here other than the ones he knew.

As he stepped into the house, from the doorway he saw a set of bare legs splayed out on the floor within the kitchen. He knew by looking at them that they were his Mates. He rushed into the room and saw her sprawled out flat on her back. A small trickle of blood ran down the side of her head. It looked as if she hit it on the edge of the counter. Kneeling down beside her he saw her chest rise and fall, and her eyes were the milkiest white he’d ever seen them. Touching her arm she felt like an ice cube, and he got a shiver down his spine. This was a potent vision, never had he seen her like this, and it caused more than just worry to flood through him.
