His yellow eyes narrowed and with great speed he toppled her over onto her back. His large toothy mouth descended onto her throat and he held her down with just enough force to keep her from twisting free of his grasp. Squirming wildly under him, she smelt the deepening of his musk. The wolf inside her lurked forward suddenly forcing its control and she lay there still for her mate.

Slowly he let go of her throat. His hot moist breath tickled her fur as he started sniffing her neck and then down her belly, until he reached her nether region. Mica trembled as he licked her softly and the wildest sensation rushed up over her. Oh this feels good, she thought as he did it again. Bathing her, he made her more aroused and as she relaxed he nudged her to get her into a mating position. Nipping at her muzzle as he pawed her back she knew he wanted her now. She moved her tail to one side. The wolf was ready to be mated no matter what Mica had wanted, it was in control now.

Victor's heavy body pulled over her and she yelped at the sudden invasion of his body with hers. It felt good to be as one, it was what they were supposed to do. Her mate and her united as a true bonded pair, nothing in the world could ever feel so perfect. The wolf stayed still for her mate, enjoying his hard pounding body against her own, letting him fill her full of his seed. Many times over the next hour they mated as wolves and when they were both utterly sated, she curled up to his warm fur covered body and rested. Soon they would have to head back to town and although she missed her pup, the wolf wanted her mate to fulfil the need for another.

  Chapter 34

Mica was snuggled up beside him in the truck, her soft sighs of sleep slipped from her lips. This had been a wonderful night, never before had he run with his mate as a wolf, mated with her in the form of one and his inner wolf had been more than pleased. His wolf had actually never mated before. The man yes, but with no shifting females this was a first. Victor realized that for the first time since the Cursed lovers, a bonded pair of shifting Lycan had mated. It gave him a strange feeling of pride.

As they pulled into the short driveway to their home, he felt her stir beside him on the seat.

"We're home.” He told her as she looked up at him with sleepy eyes.

"Do you think Shea had a hard time with Lea?” She asked as he killed the engine.

"Nah, she’d have called if there were any problems.” He told her with a smile, and leaned over to give her a long kiss before heading for the house.

Victor wanted to make love to her again. As a man and a woman should, to hold her in his arms and fall asleep in the tiredness that would follow. Holding her hand as they stepped into the quietness of the house, he guided her to their room. The door was closed, but the light was on. Shea must still be up, he thought and Mica stepped ahead and opened the door, she stiffened.

Collin sat on the bed with Lea cradled in his arms, beside him Shea lay tied up and looked drugged. There were armed men with guns pointed at them, and the smile on his brother's face widened. Victor could smell Mica's scent change to terror, and she trembled.

"Oh god no!” She barely whispered.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Victor growled. His fangs and claws erupted in response to his need to protect his family.

"I'm here to take a few of my belonging back." Collin stated with a grin as his eyes watched Mica.

"You have no right to come into my home!"

"Your home...this was my home too!" Collin snapped.

Victor took a step closer and one of the gunmen pointed his weapon at Shea. He froze instantly.

"Please don't hurt her!" Mica begged.

"Mica, how sweet. Come here." Collin ordered as Lea fussed in his brother's arms.

"No." Victor said and put his hand on Mica's arm.

"Oh she really doesn't have a choice in this Victor. I will have the girl killed. Now come here Mica!” He said, his eyes looked nearly crazed.

Mica pulled her arm free from his grip and looked up at him. The tears already streaming down her cheeks.

"I wouldn't move if I were you Victor. My men won't hesitate to kill either the girl or yourself, so be a good boy and get to your knees."

"I'll kill you for this Collin!” He snarled as he sank down to his knees on the bedroom floor.

"I'm sure you would like that. Now Mica be a good girl and come here.” His brother repeated as he slid to the edge of the bed.

Mica walked towards the bed and stood just out of arms reach of Collin. Victor saw his brother's eyes travel over his mate. He looked at her with lust and need. Victor fought desperately to control his beast as it wanted loose to kill the intruders.

  "Closer!"

"Please, just let them go." Mica pleaded as she stepped closer. Victor watched as his brother lay Lea on the bed behind him and then turned his attention back to Mica. The man ran his fingers into her hair, and as they slid down over her tear streaked face his smile widened.

Collin sneered as she looked at him.

"Such a little hell cat this one is. I missed our little afternoon sessions.” He said and a feeling of something terrible crept into Victor as he watched Mica tremble at his brother's touch. The look of fear and hate burned in her eyes.

The look on Victor’s own face seemed to confuse his brother. Collin stood up in front of Mica and cast a look at her then looked back at him.

"Hmm, now that's interesting.” He grinned, gripping Mica by the face and forced her to look up at him. Victor's mind when numb as his brother kissed her and she cried out. She twisted her face from his and Collin forced her face back to him.

"Kiss me Mica. You don't want anything to happen to the sleeping beauty do you?"

Mica did as she was told, sobbing as Collin kissed her hard and brutally. Victor felt the heat roll over him the deep growl reverberating in his chest. The urge to kill his brother was barely contained. He knew if he shifted one of his loved ones do be killed. Collin pulled away from her, a smug look of victory on his face as his hand travelled down over her arm and moved towards her chest.

"Stop please!" Mica's words were so full of dread.

"Get your fucking hands off her!" Victor growled out as his entire body shook. The rage building in him was becoming uncontrollable.

"Don't worry Victor. Mica’s already had more than just my hands touch her." Collin stated as he glared down at him.

Looking at Mica, trembling in front of his brother he knew what he’d done. Scott wasn't the reason for her not wanting to make love to him; Collin was.

"Oh god...Mica.” He croaked out. The thought of her being hurt like that by anyone was more than he could handle. The shock left him unable to think straight. His brother had done things to her that only a monster could. Now he knew why Mica shied away from his touch, and he saw the look of shame wash over his mates face.

"Oh I see you didn't tell him. Why is that Mica, did you forget? Don't worry tonight I'll make you remember every little detail." Collin was so absorbed in Mica that he didn't notice what was happening on the bed. But Victor did.

The armed men seemed more worried about him than the females and hadn't taken their eyes off him. Victor couldn’t only see, but he sensed the shifting going on. Lea was no longer a baby. The wolf pup on the bed scurried out from her blanket and slunk to the head of the bed and disappeared behind the headboard. The softest sound of her paws hitting the floor would never be heard to a normal man's ears. By the look on Mica's face, she heard and sensed the change as well.

The air in the room shifted. A shiver ran over Victor and he saw the goose bumps appear on Mica's arms as well. Taking a furtive glance to the bond girl he was supposed to protect, he knew things in here were about to turn deadly. Shea's eyes were turning colors. Slowly fading into milky white pools and Victor already knew what her Great Bear spirit could do.

Frank curled up to his mate. Ajei dreams seemed to make her restless and he worried what it meant. Holding her close, she whimpered softly and he kissed her sweet smelling hair. Frank hoped
with all his heart that there would be peace soon. His kids didn't deserve to grow up in this war. The threat to them was high and he knew that if the enemy ever struck at them he’d never rest until every last one was dead.

In a way, he understood how Alaric felt. Losing a child was unbearable, and as a tear slipped from Frank's eyes, he silently prayed that his first mate and their son were at rest.

"I Love you Frank." Ajei whispered as she placed her warm hand over his on her tummy. A new life was growing within her and he couldn’t be happier.

Frank snuggled in closer and let sleep take him away. Dreams of peace and his family played in his mind, cradling him deeper into his slumber. The solace of his tranquil imaginings didn't last. His mind twisted his pleasant subconscious thoughts into nightmares. Shea was screaming his name, crying for her daddy to save her. A man held a gun to her and pulled the trigger. The loud explosion echoed in his ears as he sat up yelling at the top of his lungs.

With sweat pouring off him, he looked frantically to Ajei, who was already tossing the covers off as she got out of bed. The distant retort of gun fire was just barely audible within the bedroom of the cabin.

"Oh god Shea!” He exclaimed as he rushed to pull his pants on.

"Hurry Frank!” His mate said her voice full of fear as she ripped open the dresser drawer and pulled out her gun. His wife rarely used the thing and for her to look so panicked and to have grabbed a weapon told him the nightmare might be real.

Without a shirt, socks or shoes, Frank raced down the stairs. Ajei stopped at the landing.

  "The children...Oh god Frank..."

"You stay here, for god sakes don't let anyone in!” He demanded as he saw her hand shake as it held the gun. Ajei needed to stay with the three youngest who were here with them. They couldn't be left alone and he saw the turmoil in her eyes at not being able to go to their eldest child's aid.

The drive to Victor’s was only a few minutes away, but now knowing his daughter may be hurt or in danger had made the trip seem to take forever. As his car screeched to a halt against the curb, he flung the door open and raced to the house. He opened the door and smelt blood and cordite. Fear pumped his veins full of adrenaline, but he forced himself to move slowly and silently to the only source of light that was on. Victor's bedroom door was barely open. On the floor just inside to the left lay his blood brother, a pool of blood formed on the floor under him. The bodies of three dismembered men in black fatigues lay scattered about the floor in the blood and gore saturated room.

His eyes moved to a soft whimper from under the corner of the bed that he could just see. A black furry pup peeked its nose out from under it. Frank pushed the door slowly open and looked to the bed. His heart stopped in his chest, tied and gagged his bear spirit child lay motionless. The bright red stain on the front of her t-shirt was widening as he watched.

"No!” He screamed and rushed to his child. Cradling her up into his arms he cried, the tears ran down his cheeks in a steady stream.

"God please no.” He wailed into the air.

She moaned into the gag in her mouth and he pulled the cloth free.

"Shea oh god sweetheart, please hold on. You have to hold on okay. It will be all right daddy's here.” He sobbed

"I'm so cold.” She whizzed out as blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.

Shea was losing a lot of blood. He saw the life in his child's eyes slipping away as he held her. There was no way he’d make it back to Ajei in time and he knew she was going to die. Again he was helpless to save his child. Now though he’d have to watch her die in his own arms. The sounds of heavy feet rushing into the room barely registered in his mind as he was so lost in his grief.

"Holy Fuck!” He heard Scott exclaim, and Frank turned to see him standing in the door.

"Please...help me!" Frank's voice quivered as he pleaded with him. His voice didn't even sound like his own.

"Oh no... God no Shea!” He screamed as she went limp and lifeless in his arms.

Mica growled low and deep as she hunted Collin. The coward had fled as soon as he knew he was no longer in control of them. His men had shot her mate, had shot her friend and now the wolf within her knew only one thing. To kill the enemy. This was her base nature's element. Instinct drove her and as she manoeuvred easily through the dense underbrush, she heard Collin cursing from up ahead. The man was not as agile in this terrain and she had all the advantages.

Although it was barely there, his scent was full of fear it. Whatever he was using to mask his scent was helping him. Nevertheless it wouldn't be enough. The smell of the blood from where one of his men had accidentally shot him in the chaos filled the air as well. The smell excited her beast and she stalked him as any predator would its prey. Collin was headed towards the old service road. She knew he must have a vehicle there and skirting him; she raced ahead. The thought of him escaping was feeding her legs to move faster.

Mica made the van and heard his clumsy attempt to break through the forest. He sounded like an elephant in a china shop to her wolf's hearing. A smile played on the wolf's face and she knew exactly what she was going to do. The woman in her was terrified of the man, but the wolf in her demanded he pay for everything he’d done to her, to her family and tonight would be that night.

  Chapter 35

Collin cursed as the branches snagged in his clothes. They tore at him, scratched and scraped his skin. As he raced blindly towards the old service road, he tried to fathom what the hell had just happened. Everything happened so fast, his men had screamed in horror and pain as something they couldn't see tore into their bodies. They started shooting and then everything was a bit fuzzy after he felt a bullet rip into his arm.

As a branch caught him in the face, he felt the sting of it slicing into his flesh and he cursed again. He paused to get his bearing, listening for Mica, who he’d seen turn into a wolf, he was defenceless against the enraged beast hunting him as his gun was lost back at the house in the chaos. Collin knew there was a gun in the van. He just had to make it there before she caught him.

He burst out onto the service road and stumbled. Pain raced over him as he fell hard to his knees in the hard packed dirt. He looked all around, the terror of not knowing where Mica was filled him. Collin knew she’d kill him if she caught him. The moon was just peaking out of the clouds in the night sky, giving him just enough light to see by. As he regained his feet, he staggered towards the shadowy outline of the vehicle they had left here.

He listened to the silence in the air. No sounds could be heard over the thunderous beating of his own heart. The van sat less than fifteen feet away and with a sudden burst of adrenaline, Collin bolted for it. He raced to the driver's side door and grabbed the handle and pulled. It didn't move. The door was locked. He didn't remember locking and as he fumbled for the keys, he heard the low growl from under the vehicle.

Jumping back, he saw the eerie glowing eyes as the snarling white wolf moved out from under it.

"Oh God Mica no!” He squealed as she lunged at him. The weight of her front paws slammed against his chest and knocked him over. Her snarling, snapping, maw was only inches from his face. The heat and moisture of her breath fueled the terror in him and he struggled to free himself from her weight.

Barely managing to get free, he tried to scramble to his feet. The blood curdling scream ripped from his mouth as pain rushed into his back leg and he fell onto one knee. Mica's teeth bit harder into his calf, tearing the meat and tendons from the bone. The shriek of pain curdled out of his mouth as she tore into the other leg and rendered it useless as well.

Fear and pain washed over him as he tried to move away, both his legs left crippled by her teeth. Collin crawled on his belly for a few feet. She was going to kill him. But as he turned to try to defend himself, he had to look frantically around. She was gone. There was no sign of her and he turned and tried to make the van again. Confused as to where or why she had gone, only heightened t
he terror in him. He knew his only hope of surviving lay in getting away from here before she could kill him.

The torture of dragging himself across the dirt road was exhausting him. He knew his legs would never be of use to him again and he vowed to make her pay for this. As he again reached the vehicle he felt hope, he was going to get out of here and was going to live. The realization that Mica had bitten him sank in. It meant he’d now be what he’d always wanted to be. The stupid bitch, he thought. She’d given him what he wanted and now he was going to escape. He’d return for her and make her pay in ways she’d never think possible, he thought. With great effort he managed to get the door unlocked and opened.

Trying to pull himself up into the van was excruciatingly painful, and he screamed as his injured legs moved. Pausing he panted, letting the pain subside.

"You know you're not going to leave here alive.” He heard Mica say from behind him. Collin turned his head slowly towards her and saw her in the moonlight. She was naked and unafraid with one of her hands behind her back. His blood covered part of her face and chest.

"Mica let me go, please. I will give you anything you want, anything at all. I'll leave you alone, please just let me go.” He rambled. She smiled at him and pulled her arm from behind her. The gun that had been in the glove compartment was now pointed at him. Somehow he knew she’d beaten him here. Had taken the gun and then locked the doors. She was toying with him.
