“In many ways, I had your permission. The Android version of you no longer looks like you. She now only has your memories and thoughts. Therefore, I concluded that it was okay. Okay?”

I shook my head. “Actually, Computer, it’s not okay! You can’t just do whatever you please!”

There was silence; followed by more silence.

“Computer, what do you have to say for yourself?” I asked.

“I’m sorry, but I had to do it!” Computer said. “You didn’t see her. Android Maya was very sad. I figured this would make her happy. I didn’t like seeing you, even a copy of you, feel bad.”

I sighed. I couldn’t yell at the computer for that. He cared more than a lot of humans did.

“She left a message for you!” Computer said.

  “Can I see it?.”

The message scrolled across the computer screen:

  DEAR OTHER ME,

I AM SORRY I CAUSED YOU PAIN AND PROBLEMS AND THAT I PLAYED SOCCER BETTER THAN YOU AT FIRST. BUT I ENJOYED OUR BONDING TOGETHER AND OUR WORKING OUT TOGETHER. I HOPE YOU LEARNED SOMETHING FROM ME. I CERTAINLY LEARNED SOMETHING FROM YOU. BEING HUMAN SEEMS HARDER THAN BEING AN ANDROID. BEING AN ANDROID WHO LOOKS LIKE A HUMAN IS ALSO HARD. I HAD THE WORST AND BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. I ONLY WANTED TO HELP YOU, AND I FIGURED THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT AND STILL BE ME, WAS TO CHANGE MY LOOK AND GO OUT INTO THE WORLD.

DON’T WORRY, WE WILL BOTH BE BETTER THIS WAY.

  YOUR FRIEND,

  THE ANDROID YOU!

Tears formed in my eyes while reading her message. Glancing up at the computer, I said, “You did well, Computer. You really did!”

“Actually, everybody did great today!” Tammy said. “We put Nanny Handy and her gang away for a long time. By the time they get out of high-security prison, they will all be too old to do any more robbing!” She beamed at each of us.

“Plus, we won the soccer game, thanks to Maya’s skills on the field!” Tina said. “And mine of course.”

Marko walked over and hugged me. “You did play well, sis. For once I’m proud of you.”

“And you got to go out for ice cream with Dex!” Tina noted. “I’m super proud of you! You’ll have to tell me how that went!”

“I’ll fill you in on all the details later!” I said. “But basically, it was fun, and I’m sure it drove Ivy crazy!”

“BTW!” Grandpa said. “We’ve changed the body armor, so it doesn’t itch so much. I talked to cousin Earl. His company is going to start testing the armor on other people now that we’ve made the itching stop. Those suits could prove to be a great help to workers, senior citizens, and well, everybody!”

“Plus, they’ll also make you a nice profit!” Polly said.

Yes, I felt good about today and my life in general. I had this amazing lab. I was making the world a better place, I’d improved my soccer skills, and I’d also shut down a gang of bank robbers. I’d discovered that Dex liked me. I also kind of liked him. Life was good.

Sure, Ivy would keep trying to win Dex over, but I could handle that. Yes, there was an Android that had a lot of my thoughts and personality out in the world now. Yes, she might eventually create a problem or two for me. But if I’ve learned anything, nobody can predict the future. We have to take each day as it comes. We can’t control events, but we can control how we react to events. I know that with the help of my friends, I’ll be able to react to and handle anything the future throws my way! In fact, I look forward to the challenge.

Thank you for reading the Geek Girl series.

  We hope you enjoyed it!!!!

If you did, it would be awesome if you could leave a review.
