Mythic: A Silent Sons MC Novel Book Five
Page 8
“I’m fully aware of the stakes, G,” I answer with a huff. This isn’t my first fucking ballgame.
“She’s here,” he informs me as a long black limousine pulls up. The driver rushes out to open the door for her. He looks like his heart may stop at any minute. In true Mythic fashion, she’s arrived fifteen minutes late. We can see the utterly annoyed Diablo on the cameras the steakhouse allowed G’s crew to place around the room. He isn’t used to being made to wait, and it shows.
My breath can’t seem to leave my body as she rises out of the car. Her long blue locks lay curled down her back. The dress accentuating every curve of her ass. Fuck, why am I in this damn van right now?
We lose her from sight for only a few minutes as she makes her way through the restaurant to the back room they’ve set up for her and Diablos meeting. I can’t seem to calm my racing heart until she’s in view of the camera again. I don’t know why the fuck Enterrador agreed to this.
Diablo stands from his seat as she enters the room. Not speaking a word while they're in the presence of another person. He waits for the maitre d to pull out her chair and sits as she does. Dismissing the man with a wave of his hand once they're both settled.
“Daughter,” is all he says in greeting.
“Diablo,” she says with a smirk. Not giving him the respect he clearly wants a scowl forms on his face. Dammit Mythic, don’t piss the bastard off. “You asked for this little meeting, what can I help you with?” She asks putting her elbows on the table and placing her face in her hands.
He looks down to where her elbows meet the table with disdain. “I wanted you to know I had nothing to do with the attempt on your life. I believe I know who did, and it will be handled.”
“La Ocho,” she says with a nod. His eyes grow in size as his nostrils flare. He didn’t expect her to know, interesting. “Don’t start trying to protect me now, father, I’ve grown quite capable of taking care of myself.”
“Who have you told about my involvement with the Asesino?” He grits out, balling his hands into fists as he does.
“Ah, so that’s what this is really about,” Mythic says leaning back in her chair. “You trying to save face. You mean who did I tell that you run the Asesino? Not the Armijos as you like to pretend?”
“Don’t start with me Selena,” he whisper-yells at her. Leaning forward he threatens, “Do you think I don’t have it in my power to take out that little club your boyfriend belongs to? To kill the children, you’re so worried about? Your brother?”
Standing from her seat she places her hands on the table before leaning forward, she tells him, “My name is Mythic. You let Selena die years ago. Remember the woman I have become Diablo. I have enough information about you to bring your world falling to the ground. Do not threaten me.”
“What do you want from me,” he growls looking up at her.
Sitting back down she’s interrupted as the waiter comes in with two plates and a bottle of wine. She patiently sits with her hands in her lap as the waiter sets the steaks before them and pours them each a glass of wine. Reaching forward she takes the glass in her hand and slowly takes a sip.
“Alex, Maribel, and Evaristo’s children. Give me them, and I’ll disappear from this world. You’ll never have to look upon my face again.”
I can’t help it when the name she’s just given slips through my lips, “Maribel?” Looking to G, I ask, “You don’t think it’s our Maribel, do you?”
“I don’t know, the man is coldblooded but putting his own granddaughter in the cells? Do you think?”
We don’t have time to finish our conversation. Diablo stabs the steak on his plate, growling, “Your brother’s family is dead, killed by the Asesino years ago.”
“Do not lie to me,” Mythic snaps. Her eyes so narrowed they are barely open. “I’ve seen the little girl at La Ocho’s home. She is his.”
“She is mine,” he seethes.
“Where. Are. They?” Mythic whispers leaning forward.
Pulling the knife from the plate before him he has the blade at her throat in seconds. “Do it,” she dares him. “Be a man for once, stop letting everyone else do your dirty work.”
She doesn’t move an inch. Letting him press the blade into her flesh. I'm out of my seat the moment I see the blood form on her flesh. G grabbing me from behind. “Stop, Snoopy, we need this,” he grunts at me as I try to pull from his grasp.
“I don’t care what you need. I won't let him kill her.” I yell reaching for the door as he pulls me back.
My eyes snap to the footage as she tells him, “You don’t have the balls,” sitting back in her seat. Placing her napkin to the cut, she wipes the blood from her skin. “You didn’t have it in you to kill your blood then, and you don’t have it now.”
“You may be right,” he says cleaning the blood from his knife. Cutting a slice of the steak before him, he draws a bite to his lips, “But there are many people you care for that is no blood of mine, remember that.”
Slowly he chews his steak, “How easy it would be to kill the three children you put your life at risk to save. To blow up the clubhouse that holds those people you’ve come to love. Do you think they would see it coming? If I took their lives while they slept? You may be the blood of my blood, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make you hurt.” Taking a sip of his wine, he clears his throat and a sinister grin slides across his face as he tells her, “Again.”
“She was the blood of your blood,” Mythic whispers clenching the napkin in her lap. “She was your granddaughter, and you let Adan take her life.”
With a shrug of his shoulders, he tells her, “Sometimes the end justifies the means. Yes, she was my blood but to turn your brother into the man he is today, I would do it all over again. Besides I had to remind you, everything you have is because of me, and I can take it away whenever I please.”
“You mean by making him believe the family he had was dead. The family that you took from him.”
“Prove it,” he tells her with a smile. “I will give you Evaristo’s children, under one condition. You leave this life, never to be seen again. But know if your brother leaves with you, all you hold dear will die. I’ll start with the three you came here to save and their mother. Do not test me on this. Do you understand?”
“And if I refuse?”
“They will die, and the promise you made to their father will never be fulfilled. Now, I wish to finish my meal in peace. The driver will give you the address where you can find them tomorrow morning.” With that, he shoos her away. Leaving no room for argument.
Standing from the table, she turns to leave. Looking back she tells him, “One day I will dance on your grave old man, I can promise you that.”
“Perhaps, but know that I have already danced on your daughter’s.”
Chapter 22
Mythic
I want his head, right here and now. I want to make him bleed. He wants it, wants me to react, to do something to give him a reason to do all he’s promised to those I hold dear. I won’t give him the fucking satisfaction.
I hold my head high as I walk through the restaurant. I won’t let him see me hurt.
“Miss,” the maitre d calls out as I pass him. “Miss, wait,” he says rushing up to my side. “I was asked to give you this,” he tells me placing a note in my hand. When I go to open the folded piece of paper, he grabs my hand looking around, “Not here, she said to wait until you were safe, whatever that means.”
“She?” I question, looking around.
“A blonde, but she left after she gave it to me,” he says looking down at the note in my hand.
What the fuck? Nodding I place the paper in my bra and walk outside to the waiting car looking around as I go. Who the hell even knows I’m here?
The car ride back across the border is done in silence, the driver not speaking a word. I’m too lost in my thoughts to play nice with one of Diablos lackeys anyway.
I’ll have to leave in the night. There's no
other way I can get away from Adan. He’s like a damned shadow these days, and I can’t put the Sons in danger by taking him with me. He made his own bed, there’s nothing I can do to help him anymore.
Maybe I can convince him to let me take the children on my own. The Dominion will make sure they get back to Rose. I can use the Dominion’s connection to the task force hunting my brother as leverage. I hope, anyway.
The tears fall freely now as I think about leaving him. He was the only thing keeping me together when I left Lil and Snoopy. Knowing that at least this time I wouldn’t be alone. He’d be with me. And now… that’s all gone to shit.
The car slows, turning into the parking lot of the hotel. My brother rushing out to greet me when it does. He swore he take Diablo’s life himself if I didn’t make it back. I think he truly believed my father planned to kill me tonight. Instead what he did was much worse. Once again stripping the life I built from me.
“You’re bleeding,” he roars the moment I step out of the car.
“It's just a scratch, I'm fine,” I tell him reaching up to cover my neck. The driver hands me another slip of paper. One I’m assuming hold the address I’m to go to in the morning. Adan watches the two of us wanting me to say something, anything. Instead, I hand him the paper and walk past him, heading into my hotel room with one single focus. The other note I have that’s currently poking me in the chest.
“Lena,” he yells after me, “Lena what happened?”
“Adan,” I yell spinning around. “I have got to pee, and I’d really like to get out of this dress can it wait five damned minutes?” I ask throwing my hands to my side.
“Fine,” he snaps.
Reaching down I remove the heels, that are fucking killing me and throw them at him. “Thank you.”
As soon as I make it to the bathroom, I slam the door behind me, taking a deep breath I pull the paper out and sit down, because yeah I really do need to pee. But the slip only has me asking myself more questions.
You’re not alone, L
What the actual fuck. He said she was a blonde, but it can’t be. Is Lilly really here? But how? How would she even know where I am?
Apparently, my confusion has taken more time then my brother would like. It's clear when he starts pounding on the door, “Lena, what the hell happened.”
With a huff, I stand from the toilet, unzip the dress letting it fall and pool at my feet. Flushing the note down the toilet before wrapping what this hotel thinks passes for a towel and throw the door open.
Two steps into the room is as far as I get, two steps, before he yells, “Everyone out.”
His men scurry from the room as I make my way to the dresser. Looking over at him, his nostrils flare as he balls his hands at his side. “What. The. Hell?” He asks through gritted teeth.
“I’d like to change if that’s okay with you?” I ask glaring over at him.
He stomps past me slamming the door as he leaves. With a sigh I let the towel drop to the floor. Grabbing the one thing I hope can bring me comfort right now, Ashton’s t-shirt. Drawing it to my nose, I take a deep breath. The smell he left behind is almost gone, but right now it’s all I have. I slip it over my head before grabbing a pair of sweats. If this is the last night I have before spending God knows how long looking over my shoulder I plan to mope.
“You can come in now,” I holler as I plop onto the bed. Reaching up I pull my hair into a messy bun.
“Lena, What happened?” Adan asks as he slips into the room, leaving the rest of his men outside. Walking over he sits beside me on the bed, reaching up to inspect the cut on my neck. “Did he do this? Why? Please tell me what happened?” He pleads.
With a sigh, I reach up and take his hand in mine. “He was just reminding me who we’re dealing with. That’s all.” Holding his hand I place them in my lap, looking down at them. I can’t bear to look him in the eye when I lie to him. “He’ll give us the children, I’m assuming their location was on the paper I gave you outside.”
“What’s the catch?” He questions, knowing too damn well Diablo does nothing for free.
“No catch,” I say running my finger over the lines on his hand. “Think of it as a peace offering,” I lie.
Hooking a finger under my chin, he tilts my face up to his, “What aren’t you telling me?”
I can’t bear to tell him the truth. This life has taken just as much from him as it has me. It’ll kill him to know that I have to leave him too, but they're more than just the two of us to worry about now.
“Nothing, Adan,” I say with a shake of my head. “I tried to ask him about Alex is all.” It's not fair to play on his love for her, but it works.
“And?” He asks, sitting up just a little straighter.
“He said she is dead, refused to admit the little girl is yours. I’m no closer to knowing if she lives or where they are then I was this morning.”
With a sigh, he hangs his head, “We will find them, Lena. In time, we will find them. Now explain to me what this address is?” He asks pulling the paper the driver gave me from his pant pocket.
“It’s where I must go tomorrow. That’s where Evaristo’s children are.”
“Where we have to go Lena. We do this together.”
It's pointless to argue with him, if I didn’t want him there, I shouldn’t have given him the address, to begin with. Even if I tried to go alone now, he would just follow me. So I nod and roll to my side without another word.
I fall asleep on the last night with my brother just as I would’ve as a child when I had a bad dream. Curled in a ball on my side as he strokes my hair until my dreams take me. If only I wasn’t about to wake up to a nightmare.
Chapter 23
Snoopy
“He could’ve killed her,” I yell slamming my fisted hand on the table before me. “Do you really think he plans to just hand over Rose’s children? Bullshit. He’s going to try to kill her again and y’all fucking know it.”
“La Ocho tried to kill her in Austin, not Diablo,” G tells me, from across the table.
If we weren’t in his fucking clubhouse I’d beat the fucker's ass right here and now. The Dominion, people from the task force and my brothers, have been fighting all damn night about what to do regarding Mythic.
The task force, they want her to go. To save the children. They don’t give a damn if she gets herself killed in the process. They want to be able to question the children. See if they can find the rest with the information they can get from them. Lord knows if they even have any fucking answers, but that doesn’t matter to them. Even if they can’t help find the rest, that’s still three children the cartel can’t turn into their little fucking soldiers or sell.
The Dominion… The Dominion is torn half agreeing with the task force and G. Wanting to look at the “bigger picture.” Whatever the fuck that really means. The other half, agree with us. It’s not a fight she should have to take on alone. The task force has been working for years to find something against Enterrador and Diablo with no fucking luck. It’s not right to use one single woman to do their dirty work.
“Can’t we just call him?” Lilly asks quietly. “Enterrador wouldn’t let her go if he knew the consequences. He would never agree to her being all alone again.”
“You really believe that?” Hoser asks, shaking his head at her. “After all, he put you through? We have brothers buried six feet deep because of that monster. You think he gives a fuck about anyone?”
“Watch your fucking tone,” Gunner growls as Hoser gets louder with every question.
“I can’t call him, Lil. He called from an untraceable number. Believe me, I tried,” G explains.
Venom, always the voice of reason, cuts through as the bickering begins again, “We have no choice.”
“What?” I snap, looking over at him.
Putting his hands up, “Hey don’t get pissed at me. We all know Mythic is going to do whatever the hell she thinks is right. That includes not telling her brother the terms
of her agreement with Diablo. All we can do is wait. Without the location of the children, there's not a damn thing we can do to help her but sit here. And hope she doesn’t get herself killed in the process. Us fighting isn’t going to help a damn thing.”
He’s right, I know he’s fucking right, but this is the woman I love, damn it. And I haven’t even told her. I will not let her die without knowing. I just can’t.
***
“Snoopy, Snoop wake up,” Lil whispers shaking me out of my dreams.
Opening my eyes, I whine, “Jesus, Lil. Can’t it wait?” before rolling away from her.
A sharp slap comes to my shoulder, pulling me from my drowsiness. Turning to look up at her, “What the hell, Lil?” I ask reaching up to rub my shoulder.
“I talked to him, dammit,” she tells me, nostrils flaring. “Do you want to know where they’re going to get the children or not?”
“You talked to who?” I ask sitting up so fast, my head spins.
“Enterrador, he gave me a number to call if I ever needed help. A number no one, including Gunner knows I have. One I used for you. So do you want to know or not?” She asks with her hands on her hips.
Gunner would be pissed if he knew Enterrador had given her a way to contact him. Hell, I’m a little pissed for him, but right now I don’t give a damn. Not if it means I can find Mythic. I’ll save her from her damn self if I have to. Even if it means she hates me. At least she’ll fucking be alive to do it.
“Where are they?”
Chapter 24
Mythic
Taking a deep breath, I look at myself in the mirror one last time. Making sure no curl is out of place. That I look like the Primera Princesa Diablo always wanted. I’m stalling, I know I am, but by the end of the day, nothing will ever be the same again. If I’m lucky, I’ll walk away with my life. If you can even call it that without the ones I love in it.
Never in a million years did I think I’d be looking for that fucker’s approval but today I have no choice but to play nice. No matter how much I wish, he’d just drop dead. Today is a day I have to walk the line he’s set out before me so that I can keep the promise I made, and he knows it. Bastard.
