Diagnosis Wolf

“Why didn’t you?”
“Because you didn’t know.”
“I’m still confused.”
Caleb smiled and brought his hand up to Andrew’s cheek. “I want you. My wolf wants you. But you don’t know what it means to be claimed. How could I just bite you without you understanding the significance?”
“But Alfonse thought you would have.”
“Yeah, Pop didn’t think I could control what my wolf wanted.”
“I told him you were stronger than he knew.”
Caleb trembled and pulled Andrew into his arms. “You understand more than I give you credit for, more than Pop gives you credit for.”
“I don’t know how much I really get, but I do have some instincts where you’re concerned. Is that weird?”
“I don’t think so. I think it shows the strength of our connection.”
“So when Mario threatened to bite me, what did that mean?”
“If he bit you, I wouldn’t be able to. You can only be claimed once.”
“That’s not right. How can he have done that by force and it still count?”
Caleb shrugged. “I don’t know, but I know my wolf was going nuts at the idea. You say I’m strong, but one look at his mouth on your neck and I lost control.”
“I’m not sure about all the rules of your world, and I definitely don’t agree with all of them. I’m scared that I won’t fit in, that just caring about you isn’t going to be enough.”
“And that’s why I can’t claim you yet, as much as I want to.”
“God, what have you done to me? I’m still not convinced that I’ve not lost my mind. I’m standing here thinking that it’s a great idea for a shapeshifter to bite me. It didn’t even faze me when a wolf showed up at my front door.”
“You trust me. After everything that has happened, all your doubts and fears, you still trust me.”
“What can I say? You’ve crawled right into my heart.” Andrew groaned and buried his face against Caleb’s chest. “I’m such a sap.”
Caleb grinned. “Yeah, well, at least you recognize it in yourself. That’s the first step. Crawled into your heart? Really?”
Andrew chuckled and swatted Caleb’s arm. “Don’t make fun of me. This is supposed to be a serious moment.”
“Who needs serious?” Caleb grabbed Andrew’s hand and linked their fingers together. “You’ve made me smile from the moment we met. You’re so feisty. When I met you, it was like I had some sort of breakthrough. Some mental block fell, and I realized what I’d been missing. There. How’s that for sappy?”
Andrew stepped closer and pushed up to his tiptoes. “I like it.” He nipped at Caleb’s bottom lip then teased his way to the corner of his mouth, where he pressed another quick kiss.
Caleb wrapped his arms around Andrew and held him close. “You know, this is pretty much the perfect way to start the day.”
Andrew blinked up at him. “I disagree.”
“Oh?” Caleb arched a brow, and Andrew wiggled his in response.
“Yeah, I think it would be much nicer to start the day in bed.”
“I like the way you think.”
Andrew led Caleb down the hall to his bedroom and pulled back the covers.
Caleb plopped down in the center and stared up at Andrew. “You have too many clothes on.”
Andrew pulled off his shirt. “Says the man who just showed up at my door wearing nothing but fur?”
Caleb grinned. “Well, I do have some perks that come with this whole shifter gig.”
“Right.” Andrew dropped his pants and crawled onto the bed. He straddled Caleb’s hips and leaned down to kiss him.
Caleb groaned and flipped them over. He settled between Andrew’s legs and began a lazy thrusting, rubbing their awakening cocks together. He nuzzled his face into Andrew’s neck.
“One day,” he whispered, “I’ll bite you right here.” He paused and licked a path around Andrew’s shoulder. “Everyone in my world will know you’re mine.”
“One day,” Andrew answered, “I’ll let you.”
Caleb kissed a path up Andrew’s jaw to his mouth. They teased and stroked, Caleb reaching between them to grip both of their cocks in his hand. He pulled, and Andrew arched into each touch.
“I won’t last long,” Caleb said. “I’ve been thinking about this all night. Wanted you. Needed to be right beside you. I couldn’t think without you by my side.”
Andrew grabbed Caleb’s biceps and thrust up faster. “I thought we should talk,” he groaned. “This is better.”
Caleb devoured his mouth in another kiss, and their panting breaths kept time with Andrew’s quick strokes. “I’m coming,” Caleb gasped. “Come with me.”
Andrew nodded and reached down to add his hand to Caleb’s. The extra touch was all he needed. With a little twist at their sensitive tips, they both began to arch and shudder. “Fuck,” Caleb groaned and collapsed onto Andrew.
Andrew slid his trapped hand from between them. “Ugh. I’m a mess.”
Caleb reached over and felt around on the floor for Andrew’s T-shirt. He plopped it on Andrew’s outstretched hand before sliding to the side and cuddling close. Andrew wiped his hand on the dirty shirt and then cleaned off his sticky stomach. He tossed the fabric aside and rolled into Caleb’s arms.
With a happy grumble, he settled down to rest. Caleb let out a snuffling snore. Andrew grinned and cuddled closer. He’d have to remember to tease Caleb about that. Later.
Chapter Ten
Andrew pulled his bag higher up onto his shoulder and trudged up the steps. The front door opened, and Caleb stood grinning at him from the entry.
“How was your day, dear?”
“Oh hush.” Andrew pushed his way inside, his shoes squeaking on the slick tiled floors. He twisted his feet a little, knowing the noise drove Caleb crazy. He yelped when Caleb wrapped his arms around Andrew’s waist and lifted him off the ground.
“Tease,” Caleb whispered against Andrew’s ear.
Andrew wiggled in his arms and grinned. “You like me that way.”
“That I do.” He lowered Andrew back to the ground. “So really, how did it go?”
“It wasn’t bad.” Andrew had finally gotten a permanent position at a local hospital after several months of waiting. “My supervisor is really nice, but man, does she know how to crack the whip to keep everyone moving. My floor isn’t too bad. Mostly elderly patients, but I had a good day.”
“Good. I missed having you here.”
It hadn’t taken long for them to unofficially move in together at Caleb’s father’s home. Alfonse traveled often for his job, and Caleb handled much of the family’s business while his father was out of town.
Officially, he and Danny still lived in Andrew’s apartment. He gave Danny half the rent, but his brother handled the rest of the expenses on his own. He also flourished at the job Alfonse had given him and had made a huge dent in the money he owed Andrew.
The mysterious family business? A packaging company. Andrew still chuckled over his disbelief when he’d heard. He’d been expecting something mysterious and vaguely mobish. But no, they designed boxes and promotional materials for manufacturing companies across the country.
Caleb led the way upstairs to his bedroom. The hospital bed was long gone. Caleb’s king-size bed and other furniture had been returned to the room the two men now shared.
Andrew dropped his bag on the floor and stretched. Being on his feet all day had worn him out more than he’d expected. “I’m going to take a quick shower. Have you had dinner?”
Caleb shook his head. He had a silly grin on his face.
“What?” Andrew dropped his scrub shirt into the laundry basket.
“Nothing. Go ahead and shower. I’m just glad you’re home.”
Andrew smiled and went into the bathroom. The hot water soothed the ache in his lower neck. Maybe he’d sweet talk Caleb into a shoulder rub later. He cleaned up, paying particular attention to the
areas his boyfriend most liked to explore.
When he finished, Andrew wrapped a towel around his waist and went back into the bedroom. Caleb had been busy. A few candles lit the room, and dinner sat on a makeshift table in the corner.
“What’s all this?”
Caleb bit his lip and reached out his hand.
Andrew grabbed it and curled their fingers together.
“I have something to ask you.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Caleb smiled and placed a quick kiss on Andrew’s forehead. “You’re such a worrier.”
“Am not.”
Caleb dropped down to one knee and kissed Andrew’s knuckles. “I’ve been waiting until I thought you were ready, and I’m hoping you are. Andrew, can I claim you? Make you my mate?”
Andrew’s knees went weak, and he sunk down on the floor in front of Caleb. “Oh wow.” He searched Caleb’s face and leaned forward to kiss him. “I would love for you to be my mate.”
Caleb’s eyes flashed gold, and he pulled Andrew against him. “Thank God.”
They held each other close for a long moment. Caleb pulled away and fumbled on the table behind him. He thrust a small box into Andrew’s hands.
“I hope this isn’t too much.”
Andrew flipped open the box. A matching set of rings glistened against the red satin lining. “They’re beautiful.”
“Will you wear my ring and my bite?”
Andrew laughed and plucked one of the rings from the box. He grabbed Caleb’s finger and slipped it on. “Only if you’ll wear mine.”
Caleb placed the other ring on Andrew’s finger, and they kissed again. Caleb growled deep in his chest, and Andrew felt his muscles rippling beneath his skin.
“Someone is happy.”
The wolf side of Caleb came out to play more often than Andrew had anticipated. When he looked into the animal’s eyes, though, he could see his boyfriend’s—no, mate’s—soul in them.
Caleb jumped to his feet and lifted Andrew into his arms. “Can dinner wait?”
“I’m suddenly not hungry at all.”
Caleb ran the couple of feet to the bed and tossed Andrew onto the mattress. Andrew’s towel fell open. Caleb ran his hands up Andrew’s thighs and pulled him to the edge of the bed.
“God I want you so much. I was worried you’d say no.”
“If you hadn’t asked soon, I was going to. I love you, Caleb. You can’t get rid of me now.”
“I love you too.” Caleb leaned down and crushed their lips together.
By the time they broke apart, Andrew lay gasping for breath. Caleb’s eyes drifted to Andrew’s neck. He moved his head to the side, baring his throat to his lover.
Caleb groaned and leaned forward, his teeth tenderly marking the spot. “Forever,” he whispered, and bit down.
Andrew hissed at the initial pain, but it passed quickly. He reached between them, guiding Caleb’s hard cock to his entrance. Caleb responded with a push, but without slick, he didn’t slip inside Andrew’s body.
With a low growl, he freed his teeth from Andrew’s neck and reached for the side drawer. While Caleb poured the lube onto his fingers, Andrew reached up and felt the mark on his neck.
It tingled beneath his touch. Andrew trembled. Caleb pushed his fingers inside Andrew’s ass, his gaze locked on Andrew’s hand covering the mark.
He didn’t spend as much time as he normally did prepping Andrew, but Andrew didn’t need it at the moment. He wanted Caleb inside him. Caleb lined up and pushed his way in.
Andrew arched his hips, taking Caleb as deep as he could. They groaned, and Caleb fell forward, burying his face in Andrew’s neck. Andrew moved his hand out of the way and tangled his fingers in Caleb’s hair.
He held his head in place as Caleb bit down again, more gently but enough to sink his teeth into Andrew’s skin. He began to thrust frantically, huffing and growling.
Andrew wrapped his legs around Caleb’s hips and relished the sensation of Caleb losing control. He’d not been wrong when he stated how strong Caleb was. His lover constantly amazed him with his strength and patience.
Not now. Caleb rutted into him, making animalistic noises that spurred Andrew’s own passion on. He reached between them and stroked his cock. He wouldn’t last long at this rate.
“Caleb,” he muttered.
Caleb released his neck and rose up, gasping for breath but with concern in his eyes.
“Don’t stop. Please don’t stop.”
Caleb smiled and grasped Andrew’s hips in his hands. “I won’t.”
He thrust harder, one hand coming over Andrew’s. He pushed Andrew’s hand aside and wrapped his fingers around Andrew’s cock. “You almost ready?”
Andrew nodded and reached up to grab Caleb’s arms. “So close.”
“Good.” He picked up the pace, thrusting harder and stroking faster. Andrew howled as he came, and Caleb collapsed on top of him with a few more stuttering thrusts.
His neck lay right within biting distance. Andrew didn’t think. He lifted his head and bit down. Caleb groaned and held Andrew’s head in place.
“You’re mine too,” Andrew whispered when he released his hold.
“Always.”
