The Golden Boy

Which brought up another problem.
Kellie lived in New York. Cade did not.
He cleared his throat. “I was just sort of hoping someone would perfect supersonic flight before we finished filming. Then we’d never be further than an hour apart.”
Despite the seriousness of their conversation, his words made her grin. “Come on. I’m being serious.”
Cade cleared his throat and tugged her closer, suddenly desperate to have her in his arms. Just the thought of them being apart made him desperate to feel her next to him as much as possible. “I was too.” He explained. And he was—such an invention would certainly make their lives easier. “But on the off chance that doesn’t happen—”
“We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”
“—I don’t know.”
Kellie shifted and met his gaze. “We live on opposite coasts. We have no idea what our filming schedules will be like. I’m in talks to play the lead in a miniseries that films in six months. I think they want to film in Australia.”
Just the thought of her so far away had him on edge. But the reality was, her future plans weren’t much different than his. Last week, he signed on for his next role in a new drama film—a period piece, which was new for him—and just like Kellie’s upcoming project, his too filmed out of the country.
“That Jasmine Jacobs film I’m on is filming in Scotland and Northern Ireland,” He hated vocalizing it. They would be so far apart from one another and it was coming sooner rather than later.
Kellie kissed him again. “You could quit your job and be my trophy boyfriend.”
He laughed and nuzzled into her smooth skin. Admittedly, the offer was tempting. “I don’t think so. But I would consider getting a place in New York. I hear they have some good pizza. Bagels, too.”
At his words, she sat up and stared at him. “Seriously? You’d move to New York?”
“I could split my time. I like the city.”
Kellie swallowed and rubbed at his chest. “I was sort of thinking the same about me and LA.”
“Yeah? Is it time for you to finally get that dream home overlooking the beach?” As much as he knew Kellie loved the city, he also knew she dreamed of a home overlooking the water, one that she could practice yoga while overlooking the sandy beach and rushing waves.
“I think it is. I have to set down roots eventually.”
Cade grabbed her hand and brought it towards him, immediately pressing soft kisses to her wrist. As she watched him, he made sure to hold that beautiful, emerald gaze. “Well, would you look at that?” He began, his voice teasing, “You and I can live that bicoastal lifestyle. We can escape the New York winters for the California sun and the LA traffic for the carless Big Apple.”
Kellie grinned. “That sounds nice. That means unlimited good pizza in New York and good Mexican food in LA.”
“I see. Is that what draws you to LA?” He asked, his tone playful, “Quality tacos and the beach? Where do I even fit into this equation?”
She hummed and kissed him again. “Well, I need a tour guide in LA. Preferably one who’s super buff. And hot. Oh, and has a huge dick.” She smirked and tapped at his chest again. “And, who hopefully will add an adorable dog to the mix soon enough.”
Her flattering had his cock hardening. He wished it was embarrassing, but it was like he told her. She was an aphrodisiac. Everything she said and did turned him on. “I see. How huge would his dick need to be?”
“Pretty huge.”
“Got it. And how adorable would the dog need to be?”
Kellie smirked. “Pretty adorable.”
He shifted and dragged her back into his arms. “Would you want to help this tour guide pick a dog out?”
She bit her lip and met his eyes. “Seriously? You’d want my help?”
“Of course. You’ll be in its life too. You know, as an excitable stepmom. A fun aunt. Whatever role you want.”
Kellie laughed. “Well, I would be honored. Just name a time and a place.”
Cade grinned and snuggled into her. “I can’t wait.”
She drew him back in for a kiss, her lips sweet but powerful against his. It was apparent she was ready for round two, and given his own increasing excitement, he was most certainly on board. He hauled her onto his lap and groaned into her mouth the minute her heat rubbed against his hardening cock. It didn’t matter how many times they did this.
It would never get old for him.
“Wait!” Kellie shrieked, extracting her lips from his and pushing at his chest. “I figured it out!”
Cade grunted and pulled away, willing himself not to continue to kiss and touch every inch of her. He was dying a slow, painful death, and she was the only cure. “What did you figure out?”
She grinned. “My superpower. I didn’t answer earlier.”
Under normal circumstances, Cade would gladly listen and engage with the conversation, but now, his mind was on activities of a more carnal nature. Surely their discussion of superpowers and their dreams could wait until another time. Preferably one that didn’t see her grinding her hips on his hungry cock.
“Right.” He moaned as she shifted on his dick, drawing him closer to salvation. “Do tell.”
She tapped her chin, playing coy. Clearly, she knew she was driving him wild and was happy to prolong his struggle. “I have two.”
Cade cursed and shut his eyes. He needed to focus on anything else but the way she rubbed herself against him. He needed to be inside her. This was torture.
“Okay. So, the first would be x-ray vision,” She began, her hands moving to rub up and down his exposed chest, “I think it would be fun. I’d mainly use it to ogle you when you have to wear clothes in public.”
He choked at her words. He wasn’t expecting such a flirtatious answer, but he gladly accepted it. “If you want to see me naked, Kel, you just have to ask.”
She smirked. “I know. But you can’t exactly walk around naked when we grab pizza or brunch.”
“I guess you’re right. And you need to see me naked over avocado toast or margherita pizza?”
Kellie hummed and gently scratched at his skin. “I always need to see you naked, Cade.”
He groaned and gripped her hips. “Fuck. Okay. What’s the second one?”
“Well, my second choice is a bit more practical for everyday use,” She explained, her hands sliding down his body until they gripped his cock. The moment she squeezed, he let out a pathetic whine. It only spurred her on. “I’d want to be able to read minds. I could know what a director really thinks of my performance. I could know what my mom really wants for Christmas.”
She leaned forward until her lips hovered above his ear, her hands still toying with his cock. “I could know what dirty thoughts are running through your head. I’d know exactly what you want to do to me before you have a chance to speak.”
“Fuck.” Cade growled and surged forward, capturing her lips in a heated kiss. Within seconds, her hands moved from his cock to wrap her arms around his neck. He grabbed her hips and positioned her above his aching cock. When he surged forward, sinking into her wet heat, he knew he was the luckiest man alive.
“I don’t even need a superpower.” He choked out, his hands helping her bounce up and down his cock, “Not when I already have my dream job and my dream girl.”
Kellie must have agreed, based on her megawatt smile. “Fuck, Cade! I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
And he planned on telling her everyday if she let him.
Epilogue
It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon on a Sunday in late February, and Cade couldn’t be happier to be back in LA. It was only for about a week and a half—then he was off to Belfast for a three-week shoot. When that wrapped, he was in Edinburgh for two weeks, and Prague for ten days. He didn’t want to seem ungrateful, considering how lucky he was to visit such beautiful locations, and while doing his dream job to boot. But it was a harsh reality when Kellie would be i
n Australia for two and a half months.
It meant nearly ten thousand miles between them at any given time. It sucked. He was thrilled for her of course—she was extremely excited for the role, and it was a new challenge for her—but it meant time away from both his home and the love of his life.
At least Raphael would be him. Or, Raph, as Cade liked to call him. Kellie teased him when he announced his desire to name yet another dog after a Ninja Turtle, but he couldn’t help it. It had been three months since he adopted Raph from a local shelter—a Christmas present to himself—and him and the dog had been inseparable since.
Since he was a rescue, his exact breed was unknown, but both he and Kellie thought he was a golden retriever mixed with a Border Collie, or maybe an Australian Shepherd. Thankfully, he didn’t need to wonder any longer. Just the previous evening, Kellie surprised him with a dog DNA test. It was a small gift, and yet it somehow meant the world to him.
Cade glanced over to the beautiful woman to his side. Her auburn locks were carefully weaved and pinned to her head, with stray wisps tickling the side of her face. Even while sitting down, she managed to look like a princess in her icy blue ballgown. With the ruffles on her skirt, and her breathtaking smile, he was once again reminded how stunningly beautiful Kellie Allen was.
Not to mention, how fucking lucky he was. They were seated in the back of an SUV, and despite the spacious accommodation, it felt tight and stuffy. Her skirt was big, and in his tux, Cade felt constructed. Why couldn’t he just show up to these events in a t-shirt and jeans? Why did it matter if it was appropriate for television?
“I’m so nervous. That’s normal, right?” Kellie asked, her eyes wide.
Cade smiled and grabbed her hand, squeezing it gently. “Yeah. It’s nerve-wracking. I thought I was going to puke at my first Oscars. Nobody even cared about me, but I still felt nervous as hell.”
Kellie swallowed and nodded, continuing to squeeze Cade’s hand. “Right. Okay. I’ll just sit there and smile. Easy enough.”
He didn’t want to freak her out, but he expected Kellie would have to do a lot more than sit and look pretty. Weeks ago, when The Academy Award nominations were first announced, it was unreal to see both of their names listed. Cade was nominated for Best Actor and Kellie was nominated for Best Actress. In total, their film A Fiery Heart had seven nominations, including Best Picture, the biggest award of the night.
Cade still couldn’t wrap his head around it. That night would signify the end of award season—they would no longer be essentially pimped out by First Look Pictures to support the film. Their past nearly two months were spent off and on at different award shows, press junkets, and guild screenings for the film. Thankfully, The Academy Awards meant that was over, and all that stood in the way of Cade, Kellie, and freedom was the award show itself.
Based on how these award seasons worked, there was usually a clear idea of who was going to win the big award come Oscar night. Granted, it wasn’t always a foregone conclusion, but there were very few surprises over the years.
For that reason, Cade was pretty confident that Kellie would return to his home tonight, a golden statue tucked in her arms. She was the press favorite to win and had swept every other major award show leading up to this moment. Cade didn’t expect to win. In fact, he really didn’t care about winning. All that mattered to him was Kellie being honored for her incredible performance. There was no bias in his words, either.
She was quite frankly one of the best actresses he had ever worked with, let alone watched onscreen. With a glance back to her nervous frame, he smiled softly and brought her hand to his face for a chaste kiss. “I’ll be by your side the entire night. I’m happy to talk or shut up. Whichever you’d prefer.”
Kellie took a deep breath before shooting one of her perfect smiles his way. “Thank you. I’m glad we’re together for this.”
Their fans felt similarly, if the internet’s reaction was any indication. They kept their relationship from the public for the entirety of shooting Golden Phoenix and given that press activity was less common in Georgia, they really hadn’t encountered any difficulties. Unfortunately, when award season kicked into high gear, their paparazzi and tabloid-less existence disappeared as quickly as it began.
They managed about a week back in LA before shots of them sharing a quick kiss in front of a coffee shop went viral. Cadllie trended on Twitter for a record two weeks. Dean still sent him fanfiction that popped up about him and Kellie. The attention was bizarre, and mildly uncomfortable, but ultimately worth it to be with the woman he loved.
Despite the photos of them kissing, they didn’t make their first public appearance together until The Golden Globes about a month and a half ago. Nobody anticipated them arriving at the event together, and their appearance on the red carpet as a couple nearly broke the internet. Thankfully, Kellie’s breathtaking black gown and eventual win that evening directed the attention to what really mattered—her incredible talent.
“I really hope you win tonight,” Kellie said, a coy grin across her lips, “The internet wants you to.”
It was a sweet sentiment that Kellie, his internet fans, and of course his agent George expressed, but in reality, he knew it wasn’t his year. Despite nominations for every major award show, he hadn’t taken home a single award. Barring a shocking miracle—one that he didn’t expect or need—he likely would go home empty handed.
But he didn’t feel like a loser. Not with Kellie Allen on his arm.
“I already have my prize,” He teased, his eyes overtly looking her up and down, “I much rather keep you on my shelf than that little gold dude.”
She rolled her eyes and fixed his bow tie. “But your fans will be heartbroken. #GiveCadeTheStatue is already trending.”
“I have my own hashtag?” He wasn’t sure if he should be excited, embarrassed, or perhaps a mix of both. “Why?”
Kellie smirked. “You know why. You’re the internet’s boyfriend. Ever since you made your Instagram account, they’ve gone wild. Plus, you and Raph? The girls have gone nuts.”
He wanted to kiss her, but he also knew her makeup artist would throttle him. Instead, he squeezed her hand again. “Don’t forget about you. They love you.”
“Please. Plenty of them hate me because it means you’re off the market.”
Cade shrugged. “Then they’re stupid. And it’s more love for me to give. Raph, too. You know he loves to give his doggie smooches.”
She smiled fondly. “I’m going to miss him. Who will accompany me on my morning runs?”
The pair of them had fallen into domestic bliss whenever their schedules overlapped. In New York, Kellie found a bigger place to accommodate the two of them, so whenever they were in the city, they shared a spacious apartment. In LA, Kellie was staying at Cade’s house, but they were already discussing looking for a new place.
Ideally, one by the water. Cade liked his house, but also agreed with Kellie. A beach view would be ideal to wake up to on a daily basis. Besides, Raph loved water, and being within walking distance to the beach meant more opportunities to see his new best friend run wild.
Their very busy—not to mention, mostly separate—schedules made spending extended periods of time together difficult, but they were starting to get good at it. Once they understood that they would have to make sacrifices to spend time with one another, doing so got easier. Now, they were already planning how to meet up for the few overlapping weekends they had off during their upcoming shoots.
It wasn’t easy, but Cade knew it was worth it. He’d do pretty much anything for Kellie. If that meant constantly spending ten plus hours on a plane to see her in Australia, he’d happily do it. Seeing her for five hours was better than not seeing her at all.
“He’s going to miss you. Just like I will.” Cade said, unable to look away from her smiling face, “I’ll send you lots of pictures. Especially wearing that new harness you bought him.”
She grinned. “Okay. That’ll have to b
e my new phone background.”
In addition to that DNA kit, Kellie also bought Raph a Ninja Turtle themed harness. Now, when they went on walks, Raph looked like he had a turtle shell on his back. It made Cade practically cry tears of laughter when he opened it up, and since then, Raph had worn it on nearly every walk. Thankfully, he was incredibly well behaved, and never pushed back about the ridiculous outfit his owners dressed him in.
“We’ll call every night too,” Cade added, already planning how he would talk to his girlfriend as much as possible, “Even with a nine-hour time difference. We’ll make it work. I’ll call you at the ass crack of dawn if I have to.”
She moved her hand to his knee and gave it a squeeze. “Sometimes you’ll need to call alone, you know?” She wiggled her eyebrows playfully, “Raph will need to go to bed early sometimes.”
Cade glanced at her hand, momentarily distracted by the white nail polish and glittering diamonds across her fingers. He knew what she was implying, and god help him did it nearly have him at a semi in Los Angeles traffic.
“No.” He would play dumb. He rather hear the promises out of her mouth. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Kellie smirked and continued to gently rub his thigh. “Well, after a while we’re going to miss each other.” She scooted closer to him, her face just centimeters from his ear. “I’ll miss you. Your voice. Your sense of humor. The frustrating way you roll your eyes.” She gently blew into his ear and squeezed his thigh again. “But I’ll probably miss that big dick most of all.”
Cade choked and turned his face to meet her gaze. He wanted to kiss her so badly. But he knew he couldn’t. Just like how he wanted to fuck her in the back of the SUV, but also knew that wasn’t an option. Not when they were maybe three miles away from Hollywood Boulevard. Not when her dress probably cost some designer he couldn’t name a small fortune.
