  The Hurricane, created in the 1940s by Pat O'Brien of the bar that bears his name, is New Orleans' answer to the problem of not getting drunk fast enough. The sweet drink carries inside it at least three different kinds of rum. Needless to say, Julius hates them.

  [33] Coffee & Chicory – Chicory is a plant with bright blue flowers which is native to Europe and has many uses. One of these uses involves baking the root of the plant, then grinding it up to use as a coffee substitute and additive. The addition of chicory to coffee goes back many centuries and the people of New Orleans inherited the tradition from the French. The use of chicory adds a very robust and powerful flavor to the coffee, and it is often enjoyed with steamed milk, as a café au lait.
