Blue Alien Prince's Obedient Mate

  He sat up straight, bleary-eyed.

  “What? Really?”

  “It’s time,” she said.

He shook his head to clear it. “Okay, okay, okay,” he said, getting up. “I feel like I’m dreaming, I’ve waited for this for so long. What do I do?” he asked.

“Get the doctor,” Margot said gently. She was amused how bleary-eyed he was, at least until he stared at her for another moment and the contractions hit her. Then, she realized that he should move a bit faster.

They’d arranged everything beforehand so that all they had to do was call the doctor. The doctor was going to bring everything they needed, despite the fact that the major hospital was downtown.

Draklan had informed her that their child was going to be heir to both kingdoms, and she had spent some time reading about the high queens and lower queens before her who had given birth in both palaces. Margot felt intimidated and yet honored as she sat up in bed, putting a hand on her stomach.

She had heard so many stories of women in terrible pain during birth. However, as soon as the doctor came in, he made sure she had pain relief, which kicked in right away.

She felt an odd sensation as the contractions hit, but no pain.

The doctor was kind, and Draklan was standing nervously by her side. He squeezed her hand and got whatever she needed, moving back and forth.

“Is everyone else awake?” Margot asked.

Draklan chuckled. “You’re about to give birth, and you’re concerned about my family?”

“I just wanted to know,” Margot said. “If I yell, will they hear?”

“You shouldn’t be yelling,” the doctor said. “You shouldn’t be feeling any pain.”

“I’m not,” she said. “I just feel like I should be yelling.”

“That’s an Earth tradition,” he said. “Women on Tamarax don’t give birth in pain.”

“Wow, that’s amazing,” she said. “You should offer out your services to Earth.”

She was about to say something else funny, but then the doctor looked down.

  “Push,” he said.

  Margot obeyed.

It happened very quickly. Within a few moments, she was holding a baby girl in her arms.

“She’s perfect,” Draklan said, crawling into bed beside her.

Margot didn’t think that she could love her as much as she did, looking down at her daughter.

“Thank you, my love,” he said, kissing her on the cheek.

“What are we going name her?” she asked.

“I think that’s up to you,” he said. “Whatever you’d like.”

She looked down at the tiny future queen staring up at her, and a name popped into her head. “Johanna,” she said. “For your father, John, and to honor your mother.”

Draklan’s eyes filled with tears when she said that, and he kissed her cheek before bending down to do the same with his newborn daughter. “It’s perfect,” he said. “Thank you. If you’re sure.”

“Of course, I’m sure,” Margot said. “She looks like a Johanna.”

“She looks like him,” Draklan said. “Those eyes . . . I can see my father staring back up at me. He would have been so happy.”

“I’m sure he knows,” Margot said. “He’s looking down on you, and he’s happy.”

Eventually, when Margot felt a little bit stronger, the rest of the family came in to see the heir to the kingdom.

Joronna cried when she heard that the baby was named after both her and her husband. “Now his legacy will continue,” she said with a smile.

Margot knew that was what she’d wanted all along.

Margot felt complete when she video chatted with her mother that evening.

“Oh, my dear,” her mother said as she met Johanna over video. “She’s perfect. I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there.”

“But you’ll be here soon,” Margot said. “Won’t you?”

“Of course. Now that the baby is there, I’m packing my bags right now,” her mother assured her. “So don’t worry about a thing. You’ll have both Queen Joronna and me to look after you.”

“Have you made a plan?” Margot asked.

Her mother smiled. “Well, dear, the two grandmothers have been talking, of course,” she said. “We’ve got to decide how to take care of you in shifts.”

“Did I tell you the deal Draklan made with his brothers?” she asked.

“No?” her mother answered, and Margot outlined the plan.

“Oh, Margot,” her mother said. “What responsibility. What pressure.”

“I don’t see it that way,” she said. “I’m honored, really.”

“Whatever happened to that matchmaker you worked with?” her mother asked. “Are you going to thank her?”

“Thank her?” Margot smiled. “Oh, Mother, I have so much to tell you.”

“Well, then.” Her mother settled back. “I’m listening.”

Margot video chatted with her mother for almost an hour until the baby woke up and she had to tend to her. Draklan had offered to help, and she was sure that she would accept it later on. But for now, she decided to spend as much time with their child as possible.

“Are you scared?” Draklan asked as they got ready for bed, their first night as parents.

  “Of what?” she asked.

“Being parents? The future?” he asked.

  “No,” she said. “Are you?”

“I don’t think so,” he answered. “Not with you by my side.”

“I love you, Draklan,” she said.

He kissed her. “I love you too,” he replied.

Margot settled down beside him, drifting off to sweet dreams. Whatever the future was going to bring, she was ready for it as long as Draklan was by her side. She could be a painter on Earth, or the queen of the Tamarax Royal Islands, or anything else the universe threw at her, with love.
