A little hike and a picnic, Kevin, Maryanne, Sarah, and Jimmy started off in the early afternoon. Sarah felt very awkward. Jimmy was nice and gentle. He’d grown up and was attractive in his own way. Sarah didn’t mind his company. When they sat down to eat, Kevin kept giving Sarah teasing looks. Sarah did her best to ignore them. Maryanne kept rolling her eyes at Kevin. Jimmy was none the wiser, until Sarah couldn’t hold back any longer; she started to chuckle right after Jimmy made a comment, a comment that wasn’t funny. Jimmy looked at her awkwardly.
“Sorry,” said Sarah.
Maryanne punched Kevin and Kevin doubled over laughing. Jimmy turned red and looked away.
Maryanne saved the day. “Let’s get dessert out. Jimmy what do you want, apple or pumpkin pie.”
“Which did Sarah make,” said Jimmy, after a moments consideration.
“Apple,” said Maryanne.
“Okay, then I’ll take apple,” he said.
“Bad choice,” said Maryanne. “Sarah knows nothing about making pies.”
Sarah looked up and opened her mouth wide. She tossed an acorn that she’d been fiddling with in her hands. Maryanne had looked down at the pies and didn’t see it coming. It hit her square on the forehead and bounced off. Sarah’s eyes widened. Maryanne looked up with an evil eye. The next moment, Maryanne got up and so did Sarah. Maryanne chased Sarah into a nearby prairie. She caught up and started tickling Sarah.
“Let’s get ‘em,” said Kevin.
Jimmy looked shocked.
But off they ran towards the women. Kevin began tickling Maryanne mercilessly and Maryanne shrieked in delight. Jimmy tickled Sarah gently and Sarah gave him a nudge in the gut. Then they sat down to watch the show. Maryanne wasn’t going to give up without a fight. Soon she was tickling Kevin. Kevin was happy to let her get the better of him. Sarah and Jimmy looked on smiling and laughing. Jimmy put his arm on Sarah’s shoulder. Sarah let him.
