“Hey, there, Pumpkin. How are you?” her father asked.
“I’m good. How are you?”
“Oh, good days and bad. You know how it is.”
“I do,” Janie replied ruefully.
“And how’s Jackson?”
“He’s good. In a few hours he’ll officially be partial owner of the business. He’s so excited.”
“Well, congratulate him for me when you see him,” her father said. “But the two of you are still doing alright? He’s good to you?”
“Yeah, Dad.” Janie rolled her eyes.
“Are you happy, Pumpkin?” her father asked.
Janie picked up the silver frame that sat on her dresser, right beside the framed photo of her mother, and looked at the picture inside. She and Jackson stood side by side, smiling like fools as Janie held the bouquet she’d caught.
“Yeah, Dad. I’m happy.”
