Mad About You

by Anna Premoli

If I’ve understood anything, it’s that I deserve to be as happy as everyone else. We all do.

So, do what I did: I chose to be happy.

And on that note, I’ll see you all around.

  Acknowledgements

Ok, I’ll confess it: this book should never have seen the light of day in my initial intention. But while I was in the middle of writing Stuck with You, the story popped into my head so powerfully I was forced to abandon it for a while and tell Giada’s story. It’s one of the mysteries of writing: you’re not the one who chooses the story, it’s the story that chooses you.

Giada was been a complex character right from the start and understanding her thoroughly took a lot of effort. To make her fully emerge and to smooth off all her sharp edges, I needed to give life to what I think is the sweetest male character I have ever created: Ariberto, alias Saint Ariberto. I’ll have to make up for him by writing someone totally evil at some point in the future.

There are actually saints like that around: I should know, because I married one. It’s nice to confirm there really are people out there who love you in spite of everything, even your temper, and that when faced with a choice will voluntarily take the uphill path simply because they believe it’ll be worth it. Thanks so much to my husband, who has been climbing mountains upon mountains with me for years: always having you by my side gave me the strength to reach unimaginable heights.

Thanks to everyone who shared those wonderful university years, the endless exams, the studying, the uni canteen, the internships and the first job interviews with me, because these last two books have been profoundly influenced by all of our experiences. This book is dedicated to Alessandra, Andrea, Giada and Marcella, but I met so many amazing people at the time who hold a special place in my heart: Alessandro, Carlo, Federica, Enzo, Roberto and Sergio, to name just a few.

Thanks to my readers for the enthusiasm with which you have waited for this story and for the affection you have shown towards Lavinia and Sebastiano; thank you for every single email and every message you’ve sent me. Thanks to those who carefully and lovingly review books! Really, I don’t have the words to express my gratitude to you all!

Thanks to my publisher, who never asks me what I’m going to write next and who just accepts what comes, when it comes, without flinching. And thanks to Alessandra, Gabriele, Antonella and the rest of the Newton team: you guys rock!

And finally, as always, my contacts: www.annapremoli.com, email anna@premoli.net and... surprise surprise ... Instagram @anna.premoli. After the book about Sebastiano, who was very clearly antisocial, a lot of you asked me if I would ever decide to start doing something on social media. Well, this is my shy little step in that direction. Let’s see how the experiment goes.
