Shades of Death

by Ramy Vance

Sarah knows this and has already vowed revenge.

I can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with.

  Like I said … perks.

PS – this was her threat in response to my wedding plans. ‘Unable to eat cheese’! Yikes … she is vindictive!

  Author Notes Michael Anderle

  June 19, 2020

Ok, I admit to a little author rivalry here, but nothing like those two are doing. I don’t marry Sarah off in any book, nor do I make Ramy lactose-intolerant.

Seriously, that would suck because I do like nachos and pizza, and I am not making that happen to anyone in my books. I promise this to be true for at least a week. I figure that’s how long I have until I forget that I said I wouldn’t do it. I might last forever (it is a rather horrible thing to do to someone) but…you know, promises are hard to keep.

So, now that we have it out that Ramy wasn’t the office smasher, Sarah was, I know I can rest easy tonight. Unless my office is already plastered with stuff and I just haven't seen it yet.

Hey, it’s my tenth anniversary. I’m not coming into the office, and (hopefully) no one can make me.

  BUFFALO BLASTS (Cheesecake Factory)

Ok, I have a new passion. This passion SHOULD be good for at least another five trips to the restaurant.

I have been on a spicy chicken kick (preferably boneless) after a trip to Colorado Springs to speak at Kevin J. Anderson’s Superstars Event (it’s held each year.)

This year, it happened before the Covid event occurred, and during the conference, I went and ate (a lot) at the restaurant in the Antlers (antlers.com) named Sportivo Primo. During one of the food meetings (you eat, you meet people, you eat a (lot) more), I asked what was good on the menu.

The waiter suggested the chicken wings. Now, I’m not a huge wing person (lazy eater here), but I grabbed it anyway. Whether the wings (the meat) was an appropriate amount, I’m not sure. Some bones were lean (WHERE’S THE MEAT!!??) and some had plenty of meat.

I was happy to lick the sauce off the wings, no problem.

I brought the desire to eat spicy chicken back with me to Las Vegas, and have been going up and down on my cravings ever since.

So, I tell you all of that to say if you have a Cheesecake Factory near you and like buffalo sauce chicken wings, try their Buffalo Blasts! It’s like they did all the hard work (chicken breast, excellent sauce, cubed the meat and added sauce and a bit of cheese (maybe?). Then, they wrap this is a piece of something that they chicken-fry and HOL# BE!#%! It’s so good!

If you get nothing else out of this Author Notes, ignore the other two authors and get yourself over to Cheesecake Factory.

  It’s good.

Oh, I suppose I should exhort you to enjoy reading and buy more books. If you don’t know what books to buy, look for the name Michael Anderle on the cover.

  Now I’m done.

  Diary June 14 – 20, 2020

So, Las Vegas is a little weird right now. You have pockets of people who are very Covid-19-aware around the valley area, and then you have the casinos. Some of the casinos are very Covid aware and more stringent, and others aren’t.

No casino (that I’ve been to) mandates wearing a mask.

The Station Casinos shoot that temperature gauge at you when you enter their establishment but are pretty open after that.

Caesar’s Hotel and Casino (for this latest weekend) was packed with people, and they try to encourage social distancing, but occasionally people get a little close together—and by occasionally, I mean all of Friday night.

I can’t speak to Saturday or Saturday night since I didn’t get to continue playing. My budget was used up, so I worked and slept most of Saturday, catching up from some mixed up sleep during the week.

I’m at the Green Valley Hotel and Casino. Sitting in the food court, I can see at least twelve people playing on the casino floor. The mask to no-mask ratio seems to be about even, except for the person who has a mask, but is smoking, so the mask is pulled down.

I’m going to count that as a no-mask.

Here in the food court, the mask ratio is about one person with a mask to twenty without one.

We are fifteen feet from the slot machines.

I get why those of us in the food court have no masks (and there is no difference when I go to regular restaurants. Once a person sits down at a table, the masks come off almost immediately.)

I think I will be about done with these updates starting next week. Enough of my diary entries have dealt with Covid-19 and Las Vegas, it’s time to just…talk about other stuff.

  Like books, maybe?

Sometimes, it’s hard to remember what readers want to hear about in our (author and publisher) lives. I eat, sleep, and breathe publishing and stories at this point in my career, and what’s normal to me (and seems like would be boring to you) is probably not.

As always, THANK YOU for reading our stories. We would not be able to create the wonderful stories without readers like you supporting us!
