  You made it! Here we are at the end of book 6. Thank you so much for reading this far.

  Again, let me first express my heartfelt wishes that you and yours have made it through 2020 so far unscathed, or only minorly scathed (is that a word?). I mean, it’s been a week since the last author notes. People have been bitten by alligators, and there is an entire raft of hurricanes waiting in the wings to attack the South. What else will this year bring?

  This week, Jo and I hopped into the Jeep and headed to Southern California to visit Grandma. You know, white hair, delicious food, open arms? I needed some of that! Friday’s dinner was rolladen and rotkraut, which those of you of German extraction know means a bit of heaven on your plate, along with fluffy mashed potatoes. For the rest of you, get some! You won’t be sorry.

  As I rolled southward, the smoke from the Oregon, NoCal, and SoCal fires covered the skies in varying degrees. I am so sad for those who have lost their homes and for the landscape we are losing, although it has been said that the redwood trees will survive. Thank goodness for that! Everyone I had contact with was smiling (well, how can you tell with a mask on, but their eyes crinkled) and enthusiastic. It was a pleasure, everyone! Hope I see you on the way back.

  Still down here in Fallbrook, California, not heading back until midweek. Have laptop, will travel! It’s hot down here, though. It was 100 Saturday. Jo is enjoying her walks on the beach in Oceanside. Much barking at seagulls ensues. Much nicer temp today and for the next few. Almost cold on the beach at sunset. Almost.
