  “You know the mandates. Alphas can’t be loose in public once they present.”

  “There’s this place I heard of a while back, some famous architectural designer built it, well, is still building it. But it’s meant for everyone. Alphas, betas, omegas. Anyone who wants to live there, they all live together like it was before the mandates. It’s set up like any other town, except it has a fence around it because of the unbonded Alphas. She got the permits approved and everything to try this, and there’s already a few people living there as they continue to build.”

  She stopped, looking at Ethan hopefully as he thought over what she said.

  Barely putting his hand up in time to catch the water that sprayed from his mouth, Ethan choked, coughing and sputtering as Jenni cackled and Penny pounded him on the back. Beet red, she could only shake her head at the old woman and agree to let her come along.

  Ethan spent his time before the move getting certified as an Alpha Controller. Since there were other dynamics besides Alphas living in Eden, they were required to have Controllers as well even though camps usually didn’t have them, and he had arranged with the people developing the camp to build the division there. They didn’t see the point in having a separate group for the rest of the residents, so the office he ran would be a combination of Controllers and Force officers.

  Ethan and Penny had both reached out to their families with the news of their bonding, the pregnancy, and their plans to move to Eden, but they hadn’t been able to convince them to move with them. Ethan thought he might be able to convince his brother to come once their mother passed away, but for now he was staying to take care of her since their father had already passed and he didn’t want to leave her alone. Ethan wasn’t as close with his family once he presented as an Alpha, but he did extend the offer to have her move out to Eden too, which she refused.

  Penny’s parent had passed away years ago, and even though they didn’t live close by, they stayed in touch. Kelly agreed to visit Penny to check Eden out and consider it, but she was skeptical, so for now it was just going to be them and Jenni.

  It had been harder than he expected to say goodbye to The Haven. He had spent a little over ten years working there, and it was weird to walk out and know he would never be returning. He promised Ms. Haranne not to poach her guards though he wished he had been able to talk to a couple of them and at least tell them about Eden. Ms. Haranne promised to mention the camp to anyone looking to retire from stud or guard service.

  By the time they were ready to move, Penny had an obvious baby bump and they had scheduled to have her ultrasound before they left the city. Sitting in the tiny room holding Penny’s hand so hard she had to fight a wince, Ethan couldn’t contain his whoop of joy when they were told they were having a girl.

  “Didn’t you want a boy?” Penny asked when she got her laughing under control.

  “What, and end up with one like me? I’d rather have another one of you,” he said, kissing her until the nurse cleared her throat.

  Still chuckling, Penny said, “She’s going to have you wrapped around her finger.”

  Ethan snorted. “Of course she will, her mother already does.”

  Sending a burst of love through their bond, she squeezed his hand and pulled him in for another kiss, letting him go before he took it too far, though she gave him a promising look for later.

  The move went smoothly, and they moved into a cute little duplex so that Jenni could be close but still have her own space. There were empty flower beds out front, and a nice fenced back yard that Jenni immediately set to planting and fixing up. They had dinner together most evenings in the backyard where Ethan built a little patio for them.

  There wasn’t much need for a personal shopper in Eden, but Penny had realized that what she did was a lot like placing orders for a company, so she took over that position for Sandra, the woman who had started the camp. She had moved her business to Eden, but a lot of her employees chose to stay in the city, and she needed help. It was something Penny was good at and could continue doing from home once the baby came.

  Sandra was also pregnant, but was a few months further along than Penny, and the girls bonded over their impending motherhood. Penny met Sandra’s mate, Austin, at the office, and the couple started coming over to join Sandra, Ethan, and Jenni for dinner once or twice a week. They joked that if Jenni was younger, they would build her a restaurant because of how good her food was.

  Moving away from the city relieved a lot of stress Penny hadn’t realized she carried. She still wouldn’t go into an elevator, and she was glad that Eden didn’t have tall office buildings like the city did so she was able to use the stairs.

  Penny no longer had to worry about tensing up every time she stopped to unlock her apartment door when Ethan wasn’t with her anymore either. She hadn’t noticed how often she spooked at silver cars and black vans until it was no longer happening every day, and she was glad she had made the decision to move.

  Eden was a fresh start. Not just for the two of them, but for their society to see that the mandates they had in place were unnecessary, and it filled Penny with pride to be a part of that. She looked forward to helping make the place a true Eden for anyone who came, including their baby girl. Eden still w
asn’t very big, only housing a couple hundred people, most of which were the Alphas helping to build it, but it was growing.

  More and more omegas were moving to Eden looking to find a mate. The beta population was still fairly low, but for now, everything was running smoothly, and people were happy.
