The Watcher

She clutched her arms to her chest, the chill and pain of the night consuming her as he went to retrieve their pendants.
“I’m afraid the Weaver’s stories sank with the creature.” He handed Laney her necklace. “We’re going to need to find another way to rescue them.”
Laney set David’s bag on top of the bike and opened the flap. She took out a spiral notebook with rainbow stickers and a leather-bound pad with the initials RS. “There’s also a laptop in here.”
“Their stories.” He touched Natalie’s journal. “David gave us everything we need to save them.”
“You know, I wouldn’t object too much if you wanted to stay here all night.” William ran his fingers down Laney’s arm.
The upper lounge was vacant, except for the faint scent of microwave popcorn. Most students had left for winter break. Sprawled out on the couch, she snuggled into his chest, trying to push the horror of the night out of her mind, but all she could think about was Natalie. What would she tell her about David?
“I know.” Her mind already drifted in and out of consciousness. To continue on, she had to block the feelings that threatened to swallow her up and paralyze her hopes of stopping the Wanderer. “But Missy will wonder where I am.”
He took her hand, enveloping it in his own. Their future was uncertain. This she knew for sure. But they had to rescue the Weavers, and more importantly, as crazy as her world had become, they had to save her brother.

About the Author
Heather Kindt grew up in New Hampshire where her love for the past grew by being immersed in the history of New England. She incorporated this colonial time period into her Weaver trilogy. Every piece of history from Nathaniel Hawthorne to clockcase necklaces was researched for the books.
With her free time, Heather enjoys taking long hikes to clear her head. One of her favorite hikes is by the small town of Victor past abandoned gold mines. Like Laney, she imagines the people of the past living and working as if they were there today. Heather also likes reading and beating her kids at Uno.
Today, she lives in the mountains of present-day Colorado with her husband, Tom, and two teenagers. Heather is an elementary school teacher, which gives her plenty of ideas for her writing. In 2008, she decided to not only teach writing, but to start writing herself when she wrote her first book. As life got in the way, it sat on her computer for seven years—pretty sad.
In 2017, Heather won first place in the Dan Alatorre’s Word Weaver Contest with her book Ruby Slips and Poker Chips: The Modern Tale of Dorothy Gale. She enjoys writing humorous fiction and young adult paranormal romance. Check out what is going on in Heather’s writing world at www.heatherkindt.com or follow her on Facebook or Twitter.
