  Glossary

AK4: The AK4 isn't a single design but a group of designs that have a few features in common. The features of an AK4 are chambers that are ignited by caps rather than through a touch hole. Which is what the AK3s chambers use. Most AK4s past the AK4.2s use chamber clips.

Chamber Clips: Small wire or sheet metal containers used to tie chambers together in a way that allows them to be shifted into firing position quickly. Again, there are multiple designs with common parameters and not all chamber clips fit all AK4s.

Chamber: A short thick tube that is hand loaded with powder, shot and in the case of cap-lock chambers with cap. Then inserted into a rifle or a pistol behind the main barrel. They are heavy enough to withstand the explosive force of the black powder charges.

Condenser: much the same shape as a tub boiler but with the opposite function. The condenser is designed to lose heat and allow the steam to cool and condense back into water so that it can be reused.

Deti boyars: literally boyar's sons, in practice the personal retainers of boyars

Dvoriane: a member of the service nobility

Vodka: distinct from the modern vodka this was an alcohol-based medicine similar to the snake oil sold in the old west. It promised to cure everything from cancer to a foul mood.
