Brief Intermission: A Novella

“You heard what I said, Sasha.”
“But what do you mean?”
“I mean…” The door opened, and instead of it being the doctor it was Pastor Gastin along with the rest of our family. “Baby girl is coming earlier than we expected, but I couldn’t let her have my last name before you did.” Jace stood and pulled his hand from mine. He took a second ring box out of his pocket, and I covered my mouth with my hands when I realized what was happening.
“I’ll give you a big ass wedding on our six month or one-year anniversary, but I cannot let Saphia come before her mother is my wife. That is the only thing that will make this day better, the love of my life becoming my wife. Will you marry me, Sasha Braxton?”
Nodding as tears poured from my eyes, I extended my hand quickly for him to put the ring on my finger. I wanted us to quickly get this done before Saphia made her grand arrival. She was already early, and it would be just my luck if she kept us from being able to exchange our vows.
“Yes,” I managed to get out after he’d slipped the ring on my finger.
With a smile, I allowed him to wipe my tears as he fought his own. Once he had my face dry, Jace lowered his lips to mine, and we all laughed when my father told him to move because that’s how we had gotten into this position in the first place.
As a contraction shot through me, I squeezed the sides of the bed until Jace gave me his hand. It wasn’t a kiss that got us here. It wasn’t even our first shot at love that got us here. It was the coronavirus and lockdown of 2020. It was our pause. Our break. Our brief intermission.
The End!
I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it! If you did, please leave a review on Amazon/Goodreads and recommend it to a friend.
Afterword
These characters took a brief intermission, and their story was a brief intermission for me as well. It’s what inspired the book and title. In the middle of writing book 2 of the I Need A Gangsta series, I felt the need to pen something super short, cute, and mushy. So… Sasha and Jace were created!
If enough of you enjoy this, I think I’ll turn this into a thing – creating short intermission stories in between longer/larger projects. But don’t fret… I Need A Gangsta, the full series, will be out in less than two weeks! To find out when all three parts go live, follow me on social media @authorblove and join my mailing list.
