Micah hadn’t really thought of how they would be situated at the start of all of this, but he figured he would be one of the ones on the inside, rather than helping to ward off enemy nuns and monks. On one hand, he felt proud that he had been elevated to this role, but on the other he was slightly worried that he wasn’t qualified for it, that he would be better on the inside. In the end it made sense, especially with Soraya knowing the mind control mantra, which they said from the start may or may not work on some of the more seasoned members of the High Council.

Everyone seemed to relax a little bit once Saru left, all aside from Ahmey, who maintained her diplomatic poise. While she was only a teenager, she had the demeanor of someone in their forties, a mature statesperson, Micah having thus found not a single crack in her façade. She really was who she seemed to be.

Retiring early that night, Micah was just about to step into the room with Yuri when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to find Bunni with her arms crossed over her chest, a playful look in her eyes.

“I think we need to cool off.”

“Not another sauna trip,” he joked.

“I know, that would be great though, wouldn’t it? No, I mean a little one-on-one time. I don’t know about you, but I have some nerves to get out for tomorrow. Actually, I already sort of got them out.”

  “Wait… you did?”

“Lying, I didn’t, which is why I need you. He’s mine tonight,” she called into the room, Yuri laughing at the way Bunni announced this. Soraya pressed past them, her tail lightly touching Micah’s arm she did so. He expected to see Liza as well, but knew she was already in her room, the door shut.

“In that case, lead the way.” Micah had been in enough sexual encounters with his wives and those around him to know that they could be spontaneous and all unique in their own ways. He expected there to be some conversation with Bunni, some downtime or something to set the mood. But this didn’t turn out to be the case.

The Plains Dweller pulled him off into a darkened room, the light coming on and revealing a dozen or so glowing lanterns hanging from the ceiling.

“What is this place?” Micah asked as he looked up to the lights.

“The meditation room. Perfect for this.”

  “Isn’t this kind of blasphemous?”

“Ha!” She began kissing him, her hand instantly going to his bulge.

Her kisses grew more passionate as Micah’s hand traveled down small of her back, and from there to the top of her ass. Initiating everything this time around, for that matter, most times around when it came to the Plains Dweller, Bunni eventually lowered to her knees and retrieved Micah’s cock from the front of his pants.

He threw his head back and sighed as he entered her mouth, Micah in absolute heaven as she continued. His legs a little wider now to stabilize himself, he finally looked down just about the point that she brought her hand to the base of his cock and began jerking it while she continued to suck the tip. Bunni moaned and playfully batted her eyelashes. He could feel the vibration, he was on the verge when she pulled away, giggling as she slowed her hand.

The feeling passed, and she started up again, once again bringing Micah within a few seconds of climax only to stop, the tip of his penis now slick and red, looking as if it were seconds away from exploding. He reached his own hand to his cock to finish himself off, but she slapped it away.

“Nuh-uh,” Bunni told him as she brought her head in close and kissed the side of his shaft, eventually licking it from the base all the way to the tip and once again taking him in her mouth, this time looking up at Micah and briefly crossing her eyes, making another funny face as his member slid in and out of her mouth, to the back of her throat. She brought her head away again, a trail of spit connecting her lips to his cock.

She began jerking from the base once again, and stuck out her tongue, as if she were going to catch it all in her mouth. Once again, the urge came to him, but Bunni simply let go and brought her face in close to his penis, so it tapped against her forehead.

“Nuh-uh…” she said again, Micah going through a roller coaster of emotions, from wanting to laugh to wanting to grind his teeth at the pressure.

She brought her head up quickly and kissed the tip of his penis, and then playfully bit down on it. Looking back up at Micah, she wiggled her nose, her long ears flattening just a little.

  Micah shook his head.

Goddamn, you’re hot, he thought as she slowly let his penis slip into her mouth, ballooning her cheeks as she did so. It wasn’t long before she was at it again, her hand at the base and now slick, the Plains Dweller bringing him a mere second away from climaxing before stopping, always knowing the exact moment that she should hold back.

It was uncanny, and for a moment he wondered if they were on some kind of mental link, or rather, that she had a mental link with his nether regions. Micah let out a deep breath as she ran her tongue from the underside of his cock all the way to the top. She did this again, and on the third round he felt his orgasm coming on. This time, she did nothing to stop it. He came, and as he did so Bunni continued to lick him from the base to the tip of his penis, making a mess of it, his jism splashed on her face, her hair, and to the floor.

He was breathless by the time he finished, Micah tense, his arms out wide, his legs barely able to keep him up.

“Holy shit,” he finally said as he looked down at Bunni, who started to clean herself up by wiping his cum away and licking her fingers.

“My turn…” she said gleefully. “Just let me finish up here.”

  Chapter Twelve

Things moved quickly the next day, Micah not even pretending to process it all. His only goal, the only thing that he needed to make sure happened in the whole affair, was to follow the plan and keep his head down. He was now dressed in his monk uniform, all the others in their nun robes, even Bunni, her ears slicked back and somehow tucked into her bucket. They stood in a line as Ahmey walked in front of them, inspecting Micah and his team as if they were her actual guards.

It was a time to keep up appearances, a time where one false move could severely thwart their plans and leave them fatally exposed. Even if Micah and Bunni had had a little fun last night, everyone had a serious air about them now, none of the usual teasing tension between the Plains Dweller and the kitsune, the team laser focused on the events to come.

Nothing had changed about their plan, Soraya on the inside with Ahmey; Micah, Yuri, Bunni, and Liza would be on the outside of the High Council’s inner chamber, with the other security groups, of which there would be seven according to Ahmey. This meant they could be facing up to twenty-eight highly ranked and highly skilled elite monks and nuns.

Complicating matters even further was the way in which the security teams were grouped. Each of the eight members of the High Council were allowed to have one person with them, which was Soraya’s role in their plan. With four entrances to the inner chamber, that meant there would be mixed security teams at each entrance, each consisting of eight monks or nuns. While the numbers were a little weird to Micah, he understood the basics here: each door would have one member of the individual teams, so eight people in total per entrance, which was to prevent them from collaborating and force them all to hold each other accountable. If something happened inside, it would be their collective job to prevent entry into the inner chamber, or rush it, depending on the situation.

It was convoluted, and Micah didn’t understand how a setup like this would work, but he wasn’t the one that had designed it, and he assumed it had been devised after the last coup attempt. After all, with individual security teams divided up, it would be harder for them to do something like rushing to the inner chamber and take everyone hostage. Mixing the outer teams together certainly forced an uneasy alliance. It also meant that Micah would be alone in his individual team, which would make it that much harder for him to act when the time was necessary.

When he had heard of the setup, Micah had asked if there w
as any concern that some of the security teams may be working together, so they could have two members per door, something to that effect. Apparently, this wasn’t the case, or at least it hadn’t been in the past. This also led to Micah asking if they could rely on the nun named Saru’s security team to help them, giving them an advantage at each entry. This wasn’t going to happen; Saru wanted no part in the actual coup, only a promise of cooperation by agreeing to overlook the action Ahmey was planning to take. She also asked that they try not harm her agents, but she did so in a way that led Micah to believe that they were indeed expendable.

Nope, they were going to be on their own, and while that might be easy for Bunni and Yuri, it was going to be more difficult for Micah and Liza to take down the people they would inevitably be grouped with.

Aside from his prosthetic gatling gun, Micah now had an energy dagger sheathed in his boot, one that activated once it registered someone’s inner industria. He also had his energy shield, which would help to some degree. He was certainly strapped.

Before lining up for Ahmey’s inspection—which, as Micah came to understand, was definitely only for show considering Saru and her security detail where there as well, their group planning on sharing transport—Soraya had given Micah a briefing on using a dagger.

As if it were second nature to her, the kitsune showed him all the best places to stab someone, focusing on a particular move that she thought would be easy enough for Micah to replicate. It involved attacking someone from behind, driving his blade into their carotid artery, and then quickly holding them as they bled out, reaching across their body, and stabbing them in their femoral artery, along the right side of their leg.

“Remember, they’ll need to bleed out. People don’t always die quickly.”

She demonstrated the move multiple times as if it were a piece of cake, Micah not sure if it was something he was going to be able to pull off. No, he was going to have to rely a bit on luck, his understanding of industria, and his trusted energy weapon, saving the blade for last-ditch efforts.

In the end, her lesson had been helpful, however, Micah realizing he should have figured out the best places to stab someone long ago, considering his knowledge of human anatomy from his single semester of medical school. He had a good enough understanding of that aspect of human anatomy, and it could have been utilized to his advantage.

Lined up now, Micah felt a hint of apprehension as Ahmey stopped before him, the young nun acting as if she were a drill sergeant. She looked Micah over, and as she did, he saw his reflection in her helmet. This is so bizarre, he thought as she finally moved on to Bunni, who stood next to him, a head taller than the others.

“At your service,” Bunni said, her voice metallic because of her helmet, but not metallic enough to hide a hint of sarcasm. Ahmey nodded and moved on to Soraya, and finally turned back to Saru.

“I believe we are ready,” she said.

There was now a transport vehicle hovering outside, the wind whipping around it as Micah and the rest of the grunts piled into the back. Saru and Ahmey took the front, along with the driver, who belonged to Saru’s regiment. After a momentary pause, the vehicle began to lift into the air, the bottom of the craft humming.

“I don’t believe we’ve met,” one of Saru’s monks said to Micah, the man sitting across from now, with a single hand held above his head and looped around the handle hanging from the ceiling.

“We met last year,” Micah said, “at one of those events.”

He figured this would work, and was happy to see that it did, the monk nodding in an agreement. “Another retreat, ha? I hate those damn things. I guess I don’t remember meeting you then. Not surprising.”

“They’re not so bad,” Liza said. “At least they give you a little peace and quiet.”

“And if we are at a retreat, we don’t have to patrol the subway stations with the rats below,” said a different nun, who was seated across from Yuri at the opposite end of the bench. This caused a few of the members of Saru’s team to laugh, Micah chuckling along with them, trying to blend in. Rats? he thought. Is that what they really call us?

“Ugh, peasants, I mean, pedestrians,” Soraya said, trying to play along.

“Tell me about it,” said Bunni, her tone just slightly mocking enough to make Soraya’s shoulders tense.

She really knows how to get her, Micah thought.

A voice appeared in his bucket. “Look at you,” said Choro. “You’re practically a recruit now. Let me know how it is on the other side, and don’t get too comfortable.”

Rather than respond, Micah looked down at his free hand and made a thumbs up gesture.

“Yep, I get it, no need to reply. I’ll just give you an update. Julia has several squads of Hermetics now stationed outside the Society of Monks’ administrative building in Coralie, with more en route, and even more in some of the underground tunnels ready to fight the forces that will eventually land once the coup is underway.”

Speaking for just a moment longer, Choro explained that Bobi’s mechas were ready to go as well, and warned Micah to expect quite a bit of commotion outside the building once everything kicked off. This was one reason he’d eaten a light breakfast, Micah not wanting to be slowed down by anything, not now, not when they were this close.

As the monks and nuns continued to converse around him, Micah thought of his parents, how they had been killed, and what they would think about what he was doing. He remembered them to some degree, but not as much as he should. It was something he felt guilty for, even if he had been just eight years old when they died. He liked to think his father would be proud of him and his mother would be worried, but that she would understand the necessity in what he was trying to do, that what the Society of Monks had done had affected everyone in the end, from those deemed insignificant to those born into wealth and power.

It was a balancing act, being alive in the civilized world, and the scale needed to be reset.

This thought had a way of settling his thoughts, realigning his focus on what was to come. He went over the maneuver that Soraya had taught him in his head, but once again Micah concluded that it might not work in such a fluid way, that he could mess it up somehow and end up getting himself killed.

Then again, if I’m behind someone with a dagger that is stabbed in their neck, I could always use them as a shield… Micah shook his head at this thought. Who had he become? When did these kinds of ideas start coming to him? He looked at the world differently after being associated with Royal Star Ninjas; he thought of shade and cover differently, and of items that could be used to his advantage in a surprise attack, about his location in a room, as well as his proximity to one of the others—everything had changed since meeting them. Micah was by no means a trained man, but he was a new man nonetheless, one who had increasingly learned the secrets of industria, and the iniquities of those who held court over his society.

As the transport vehicle began to lower, he couldn’t help but think that all of that, of everything he had been through, and how it was leading up to this moment. The pressure was on, but rather than be afraid of it, or apprehensive about what was to come, a part of Micah was excited.

He was born to do this.

Once the transport vehicle landed, Saru’s security team exited in a single file line, Micah and his group following them, Yuri in the lead. There were other shiny transport vehicles landing, their teams moving in the same way, now guided by people such as Ahmey and Saru, the ones who would be in on the inner circle.

It was a nice day out, nothing in the sky to indicate what was to come. No rain clouds, no thunder, a perfect day, one that would be marred in blood and carved in the history books as a coup by the time the moon rose. It was a day that could forever change the course of Neo-Hokkaidan history, one in which the society as a whole could move to a better path, or continue on in a way that would lead to the inevitable downfall that came with extreme authoritarianism and the potential for war.

&
nbsp; Micah and his team lined up once again; it was the first time that he felt just a glint of nervousness. There were a lot of monks and nuns around, all elite forces designated by their futuristic attire, and while he couldn’t tell who they really were through facial expressions, it was clear in the way they stood and presented themselves that they were well-trained.

As if she had done this a hundred times before, Ahmey joined one of the groups that was heading through a door with a symbol over it, Micah recognizing the glyph as the ancient Hokkaidan script. There were several entry points surrounded by additional security forces, likely ones not affiliated with those who were to meet in the inner chamber. These were the grunts who would be guarding the exterior.

The sheer number present and the anonymity of the buckets eventually made it hard for Micah to differentiate between the normal nuns and monks and those who were members of the High Council, and he assumed this was likely for reason, a show of unity and a way to make targeted assassinations more difficult. But that soon changed as they came to the next chamber, which was set in a circular pattern, the security details already starting to line up, to separate from those who would enter into the main room.

Each of the leaders was granted one guard, which meant Soraya left with Ahmey. Micah was guided, mostly by a quick gesture from Yuri, to the group he would be stationed with. She made it easy for him, Micah staying exactly where he was while his teammates fanned out around the circular chamber, so they were all technically across from one another—north, east, south, and west—the meeting chamber set between them.

Micah stood at attention as more monks and nuns joined him until there were eight in total including himself, just as he had been told there would be. Nothing was said, and he was glad that there weren’t any other ceremonial gestures that went along with what was happening. He surely would have stuck out if this had been the case.
