Blurb
It was supposed to be a one-night stand, not eternity!
When witch Sara Hart hooks up with a Master vampire at a co-worker’s wedding, she fully expects to never hear from him again. After all, she’s just a poor receptionist with mediocre powers—certainly not an appropriate match for someone of his status. And he clearly thinks so too since he never even tries to track her down. That stings, but not as much as when she learns he’s actively seeking a new mate and she isn’t even in the running.
After losing his beloved—his one true mate—centuries ago, Orrin Nicolaides knows he’ll never find another but he’s tired of being alone. The problem is that even as he searches for a suitable vampire mate, he can’t stop thinking about the sexy little witch he drunkenly snacked on the night of his son’s wedding—to the point he can no longer feed from anyone else. He needs to forget her, but will he be able move on before he wastes away?
Chapter One
Orrin Nicolaides was a master in every way. First and foremost, he was the master of his vampire clan, ruling with an integrity and even-handedness most masters lacked, in his not-so-humble opinion.
Next he was a master of his emotions. It had only taken him a couple of centuries to really get a handle on them, but he’d succeeded in the end, as he always did. Nothing could frazzle him, and he was well-known for keeping a cool head in the midst of chaos.
He was also a master in the bedroom, which he was currently proving to the young witch in his arms. Or would be as soon as he could get the damn door open.
“Here, let me try,” Sara said, deftly plucking the hotel key card from his fumbling fingers and stepping in front of him.
Wrapping his arms around her waist, he nuzzled her neck as she worked. His head was fuzzy from drinking too much from several inebriated human females at his son’s wedding reception. They’d been desperate to experience a real vampire bite, and he’d been only too happy to comply. But he’d forgotten how intensely the drunk ones affected him.
He’d thought Sara was a human when he first spotted her across the dance floor at the Othercross Forum. His son, Deo, had just thrown his new bride’s garter into a crowd of young males when Orrin’s gaze had landed on a stunning young woman in a knee-length black dress that glittered like stars on a moonless night. The dress enhanced her ample curves, and more than anything he wanted to find out how she looked with it pooled around her feet.
Now if only he could remember her last name. She might not have even told him after he’d elbowed his way through the partiers and struck up a conversation. He knew she worked as a receptionist at Othercross Arcane Judicial with his new daughter-in-law, Cora, but beyond that, she was a mystery.
A delectable mystery he couldn’t wait to sink his fangs into, but his son’s reception wasn’t the place for what he had in mind. Yet when Sara had dragged him onto the dance floor, he’d barely been able to keep his hands off of her luscious body. Only when she’d giggled and suggested they go back to his room did he even realize he had two handfuls of her delicious ass and was grinding against her like a teenager.
So unlike him, the master of control.
If he was honest with himself, he hadn’t been mastering his emotions as well as he would have liked. As happy as he was for his son and heir, Orrin couldn’t deny a twinge of self-pity. His youngest progeny, who’d only been a vampire for twenty years, had already found his beloved—his eternal mate—yet Orrin was still alone two hundred years after losing his own beloved and first offspring in childbirth. He hadn’t been able to stop himself from sulking over this strange turn of events, and a quick fling with a sexy witch seemed like just the thing to take his mind off his troubles.
Sara had flung herself at him the moment the elevator doors closed on the way to his room, shamelessly running her hands down his back to his own ass and returning the favor. Her tongue had tasted of champagne and strawberries, though she didn’t seem drunk. Not like the human girls wanting a glimpse of the dark side. Maybe a tiny bit tipsy, but the woman certainly had her wits about her. Enough to get his damn door open when he couldn’t.
The electronic beep signaling her success made him harder than he had been in years. The wait was over. He could feed on her, make love to her, and perform every single trick he’d learned over the centuries. It felt like he’d been waiting a lifetime instead of just a few seconds.
Lifting her in his arms, Orrin carried Sara over the threshold, her teeth nibbling at his earlobe, her lips trailing kisses down his neck, and her fingers buried deep in his jet-black hair. A growl rumbled out of him, low and heavy with promise, as he kicked the door shut behind them.
She claimed his lips before he could reach the bedroom of his suite, her tongue dancing with his as she twined her arms around his neck and held him tightly. He could feel the hardness of her nipples against his chest, and he called on every ounce of strength and control he possessed to stop from embarrassing himself.
Puppy dogs. Baseball. Standing in front of a Triune. Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day.
That did it, at least enough for him to reach the foot of the bed. He was loath to release Sara’s warm body, but one more second of her hands roaming his form as if it were hers to own and thinking unsexy thoughts wouldn’t stop him from finishing before they’d even started.
Tossing her on the bed, Orrin rolled his shoulders back and pulled himself to his full height. Looming over her, he let an evil smile play across his lips. It was his patented “Imma eat you” smile, and most non-vamps tended to cower from it. To his eternal surprise, Sara smiled back.
By the blood…
He nearly lost his mind with need for her, so he looked away, determined to make this night last. He’d never wanted for feminine companionship, but this girl—no, this woman—was something else entirely. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the alcohol-infused blood he’d drunk that night had loosened his inhibitions.
Control was overrated, he decided. Lovemaking shouldn’t be governed by restraint. Quite the opposite. It should be unencumbered by reservations and pride. It should be a celebration of life, no matter if it was frenzied and messy instead of orchestrated and methodical. And that’s what he wanted from Sara—a night of unbridled passion with no expectations, no ramifications, no hard feelings. Only pleasure, comfort, and the joy of connecting with someone.
And blood.
By the end of the night, he’d sink his cock and his fangs so deep inside her, they might just touch.

Sara’s flesh pebbled at the hungry look in Orrin’s eyes. Maybe fear should have flared inside her, but all she felt was desire. She’d never been bitten by a vampire before, never even wanted to be. While all of her girlfriends seemed obsessed with the idea, she’d shrugged it off as an odd fetish.
But as she lay on the massive bed in the luxurious suite with a sexy-as-hell master watching her like she was prey, she suddenly understood the attraction. She wanted his fangs to pierce her flesh. She wanted other parts of him to pierce her too, but she suddenly couldn’t wait for the coup de grâce, so to speak.
Not that she expected to die. She’d worked at Othercross Arcane Judicial for years and never heard anything about Master Nicolaides abusing his power by killing his
blood donors, so she felt reasonably certain she was safe. As certain as a girl could be when a vampire was about to fuck her brains out.
When she smiled up at him, inviting him to join her on the bed, his gaze darted away, and she sensed his need. It wasn’t just about sex for him, or even feeding. If her empathetic sense was working correctly, he was lonely—feeling a little dejected for some reason she couldn’t fathom. A man like him shouldn’t have trouble finding companionship.
Yet he’d picked her. A slightly fluffy receptionist with witchy powers. Not a match made in heaven. Or did vampires count on hell to matchmake for them? She didn’t know or care. All she cared about was feeling his cool hands skimming her body.
Reaching a hand out to him, she said softly, “Come to me.”
His black eyes latched on to hers again, a sadness in them that hurt her heart. She wanted to make him feel better. She wanted to give him whatever he needed, and not just because it was what she wanted too.
The instant his fingers slipped into hers, all coherent thought vanished. All she knew was him, his scent, his touch, his need. His lips devoured hers frantically, his hands clasping her face as if it were a precious objet d’art that might fall and break if he let go. The bulge in his tuxedo pants dug into her hip, promising more than she’d expected.
Tonight’s gonna be a good night.
Rolling him over on his back, Sara straddled his hips but refrained from grinding into him, no matter how difficult it was. She wanted this night to last. He lay back, smirking, as she reached behind her and unzipped her dress, letting one shimmery strap slide down her shoulder and giving him a coy wink.
With the lightning fast speed of a master vampire, Orrin reached out and tore the dress from her body in one flick of his wrist. A tiny part of her mourned the dress she’d worked three months to pay for, but the rest of her thrilled at the exquisite pain the fabric burned into her skin.
“Panemorfi,” Orrin breathed as he gazed up at her, eyes wide, mouth slack.
Sara giggled. “Huh?”
“Beautiful,” he said in English, before flipping her onto her back again, this time straddling her.
But not for long.
In the blink of an eye, Orrin had scooted down the bed and wrapped her legs over his shoulders. As his tongue dove deep inside her, she thanked the goddess she’d gone commando for the night. No pesky panties to tear off her body, no complicated bra to unhook. Straight to the good stuff suited her just fine.
Sara was no virgin, but she’d never experienced such a good “tongue lashing” in her life. It was as if Orrin already knew her most sensitive crevices, most delicate folds, and treated each differently, with fevered reverence. She arched against him, moaning in delight as her body tensed. If he kept this up, she wouldn’t last another minute.
Less than that, as it turned out. When Orrin’s fingers joined his tongue in doing whatever he was doing down there, her core tightened instantly and she couldn’t hold back. The orgasm hit her like a freight train, rolling over her and through her, as spasms racked her frame as if she was being electrocuted. His name tasted like honey on her lips, so she kept screaming it, drawing out the pleasure until her voice went hoarse.
Kissing his way up her belly, Orrin paused at her breasts, taking each full glove in one hand and admiring them.
“Panemorfi,” he said again and then one nipple disappeared between his lips.
“Oh god!” Sara cried, her fingernails digging into his shoulders.
Did vampires bite nipples, or only necks? She didn’t care. At this point, Orrin could do whatever he wanted to her. But he didn’t bite. He treated her sensitive peaks gently, his teeth just barely grazing them as he bounced from one to the other.
Intense pressure built inside her again quickly, more quickly than ever before. Wrapping her legs around and between his, she urged him upward, impatient for the main event to start. He chuckled and let her nipple pop from his mouth, smiling down on her.
“Patience, agape mou,” he purred as he rolled away from her and stood.
She whined at his absence but then quieted when she realized he was undressing. Slowly. Like a strip tease, only a thousand times better.
First, he started with his tuxedo shirt. He must have lost his jacket, bow tie and vest at the reception because by the time he’d approached her, all he’d been wearing was the shirt and trousers. Whatever shaved time off the undressing process was fine by Sara.
Orrin’s gaze never left hers as he unbuttoned his cuff links and tossed them on the floor. Each one probably cost more than her car, yet he didn’t seem to care. And why would he? An eternal vampire had plenty of time to save his money, and by all accounts Orrin was wealthy beyond measure. Not that money meant much to Sara, mostly because she’d never had it.
Instead of carefully unbuttoning his shirt, though, he tore it free, just as he’d done to her dress. Little black buttons flew everywhere, skittering across the thick carpet and beautiful bedspread. A giggle bubbled up inside her, but his intense expression burst it, leaving her more impatient for his touch than ever.
Next came the trousers, much to her relief. And just like her, Orrin had gone commando too, and judging by the way he was standing at attention, he was more than ready to fulfill his unspoken promise of ecstasy.
Then she was in his arms and it felt like home. Their hands roamed each other’s bodies, discovering each hidden erogenous zone. Their mouths remained locked together, desperately trying to get their fill but never quite achieving it. Their souls reached out, entwining in the sweetness of lovemaking. They became lost in each other, all of the stresses of the outside world fading into oblivion as their bodies joined.
Orrin didn’t pause, didn’t even hesitate, as he plunged inside her, filling her so completely she broke their kiss to cry his name again. It felt so good, so right, she continued moaning his name, which only sped up his thrusts, deeper and faster, as his lips moved across her jaw to her neck.
He was attracted to the blood pounding there, she knew. The curse of a vampire, though they didn’t seem to mind that much. When sharp points dragged across her flesh, she clenched around his cock, drawing a moan from him.
Sara’s consciousness narrowed to a pinpoint as Orrin pounded into her, pushing her to the point of no return. She clung to the precipice, refusing to fall over the edge, so she could enjoy a few more seconds of the most profound pleasure she’d ever experienced. If they went on like this forever, she’d be a happy girl. But nothing so good was meant to last.
Orrin’s thrusts had intensified, and she knew he was close. Good thing because she couldn’t hold out much longer. A roar rumbled up his chest and he threw his head back to let it out. The walls shook from it and before it was over, his fangs unsheathed fully, glimmering in the moonlight peeking through the rattling window. He looked every bit the blood-thirsty predator.
Before she knew it even happened, his head dove back down, and his fangs sank deep into her neck. An explosion of light filled her field of vision as every muscle in her body contracted in response. She screamed from pain and pleasure mixing in the most unexpected way. She screamed from the most powerful orgasm of her life. She screamed from the way her body, mind and soul reacted to Orrin’s bite.
Pulses of color followed the light as she contracted around him, driving him to drink from her as if he hadn’t fed in years, draining her. And she didn’t give two shits. She wanted him to drink from her, as much as he needed, as much as he could. The heat searing through her neck went straight to her clit, extending her climax to a point she never thought possible.
Keep going, she thought, knowing he couldn’t hear but also knowing he somehow understood.
Sure enough, he sucked harder as he continued thrusting into her, even as both their bodies gave out from exhaustion. The room shifted and spun around them as she grew lightheaded, whether from losing blood or having her mind blown, she wasn’t sure.
Finally, Orrin slowed his drinking and th
en licked her wound until the bleeding stopped. Rolling onto his back, he pulled her with him, settling her into the crook of his arm and pressing his lips to the top of her head. She could barely keep her eyes open, even as her body twitched and spasmed against his.
“Wow,” she breathed against his chest.
“Mmm,” was his only reply as his breathing evened out. He was just about asleep already. She had no idea how men could fall asleep so quickly, especially after such amazing sex, when all she wanted to do was run out into the streets and tell everyone she met about her night.
But slumber snuck up on her quickly, and as she drifted off in the warm embrace of her one-night stand, Orrin mumbled something in his sleep.
“What did you say?” she asked softly.
“This feels so right,” he murmured again, completely zonked out.
Sara smiled and then followed him into the bliss of unconsciousness.
Chapter Two
The faint glow of daylight peeked in between the room’s blackout curtains, waking Sara from the deepest, most satisfying sleep of her life. She stretched against Orrin’s supine body, relishing the ache in her own—one place in particular.
After they’d passed out from their first go-round, Orrin had woken her a couple more times during the night by suckling the wound on her neck. Each time, she woke up just as an orgasm hit her, followed by energetic—and quite frankly, acrobatic—lovemaking. Now she felt the burn… everywhere.
Snuggling into his long, powerful frame, she thought maybe it was time to wake him up, and she knew just how to do it. Skimming her hand down his chest, she was headed for his happy place when her phone pinged with a new text.
