The Idle System Box Set

Starting with the Immortal Rank 4’s that he had marked on the map, he shot them with the same strengthened bullets he used on Helen. He systematically killed around the capital without missing any of his targets.

Congratulations for killing your first rank four immortal creature, we have given you a reward of 1 skill point to place anywhere you choose.

Oh? Is it giving me the skill on its own? Normally, I’d need to do things in pairs until I get the reward so what happened? The single reward surprised John, but he carried on cleaning up the capital.

It was almost thirteen hours later when Helen’s body was found. The guild staff thought she was working through the night so they went home to sleep and her corpse was not discovered earlier. In those thirteen hours, John had managed to kill 62,582 sinners in the capital and then left. He headed south, towards the location for the quest he was assigned.

What John had noticed was again, the people with the most sins were those in power, like nobles, royalty, guards and even one or two guild staff. The old saying of ‘power corrupts’ is true.

The average Sin amount of those 62,582 people was 50 points, which totalled to 3.12 million. Added to the amount he already had, he was almost halfway to his 10 million goal.

John changed his appearance back to normal with his usual black attire. When he was past the 100-mile mark away from the capital, he made sure nobody was following him. He took his time going to the quest area and on the eighth day, Force II’s Speed had finished Level 4 and started on the 5th and final level of that skill. The time came up as 2mo 10d. After that skill had begun, he used all 3 skill points into Force II’s Control.

Once the Speed skill was completed, the next Control would take over 1y 7mo, and the last one would take more than three years to finish. When John thought up to this point, the sin-to-time option from the shop was looking like a better option. The only problem was the amount he’d need. Three years was over 87 million seconds.

A few days later, he arrived near the bandit’s lair. The first person he saw was a mortal with 500 sin points. This surprised John, so he started flying and checked every other bandit.

That mortal had the lowest amount of Sin out the whole group. John sniped all those above Rank 2, and killed every other bandit by snapping their necks. In just a few hours, he had gained almost a quarter of a million Sin points.

Inside the bandit’s lair, John found a natural opening and decided to crawl inside it. He found that this new cave opened up further down and kept going down for miles. At the end of this cave, John saw glowing green substances that looked like Life Stones. He sat down near them and watched the amount of his Life Pool increase. It was still only going up by 15 points per minute.

John used one of the remaining two parts of his mind to handle the absorbing technique. Now, four sections of his brain were working on his cultivation. He was going to use the last piece to concentrate on the breathing technique, but it appeared unnecessary.

However, when the Life Power from the two absorbing methods met inside his blood system, they clashed against each other.

John spit out blood. His circulatory system was damaged due to the clash!

He reoriented the last free piece of his mind to concentrate on the merging of the Life Powers without hurting him. Now, all five parts of his mind were working together. One for breathing, two for the absorbing technique, and another for the merging. The last one was for keeping the Storage Space open.

He kept the system open and looked at the Life Pool amount. He noticed it was going up by 29 points per minutes, so +1 Idle, +14 manual and then +14 merging. If he got the +4 Idle from the Sinner’s Shop, then it would bump up to 33 per minute, over double what he was getting earlier.

When he got the +4 Idle from the shop, he would have a choice to make. He could either carry on killing sinners and aim for the 100M Sin points, or go back to the sect and do closed-door cultivation. He paused the second absorbing and the merging so he could think faster.

I should get to Rank 3 first. Then, I can get into one of the top sects and read up all the absorbing techniques before getting that 100M Sins. But before that, when I get 10M Sins, I should first head back to the sect and see what’s going on. I can’t complete the assassin quest since my target is the wrong person and I can’t prove Helen did it either. Even if I could prove it, I couldn’t take her head to prove I killed her.

John stood up and started punching the huge Life Stones around him. They were the biggest John had ever seen, but not the brightest. John estimated them as Grade 4 or 5.

After collecting all the Life Stones, he headed back topside and checked the world map in the system. After searching for the closest town, he started walking towards it. He now wanted to get 10M Sins as fast as possible. It would take between nine to eleven months to get back to the sect, and his master wasn’t picking up his calls.

Going around towns just like Danny did, he scanned all the towns he visited and killed anyone with 25 or more Sin points. In between towns, he would go to any Rank 3 or lower creatures to kill them for Life Power. Once, he tried skinning one and cooked it. He discovered that he got Life Power from eating the meat even after the system gave him the Life Power from the kill, so he assumed the system somehow copied the Life Power when he killed them.

After two months, he had more than 10M Sin points. Finally, he opened the shop up and brought the +4 Idle Absorb. The shop updated when he brought it.

Congratulations on getting your first ten million sins, we have given you a reward of 1 skill point to place anywhere you choose.

Congratulations on getting your first Sinner’s Shop purchase, we have given you a reward of 1 skill point to place anywhere you choose.

1M Sins - Sin to Time transfer option, 100 Sin to 1 Second ratio.

100M Sins - Merges all user’s knowledge of Absorption techniques and creates a new technique, the more you know then, the better the technique made.

Looking at the system skills, he put both skill points into Control and completed it. Now, he just needed to wait for a little over seven months for Force II to be completed.

He started walking towards the teleportation room. It was time to go back to the sect.

  Chapter 36

  Manipulated

Time passed, ten months to be exact. John arrived back at the planet of his origin. As he exited the mission hub, he saw more sect members than usual. He wondered what was going on, but didn’t ask. There was no time, he had to see his master. He rushed to the teleport rune and disappeared.

John came out behind his master, so he walked around and did a martial arts salute.

“Master, I have come back with a report.”

Jamie nodded. “Welcome back. I want to hear everything that’s happened.”

“The mastermind behind the 20,000 deaths for political power was the new Adventurer Guild’s branch master. Her name was Helen, and she was Rank 5 Level 4. I killed her through sheer luck, but I couldn’t prove that she was the culprit nor could I claim her head.”

Jamie nodded. “It’s fine. You got the kill, but don’t need the reward anyway, right? I’ll update your mission status to completing a long distance quest since I trust you.”

“Thank you, master. I was also wondering why the connection didn’t go through for my calls. Have you found out the reason for the blunder in the mission?”

“I don’t know either.” Jamie stroked his beard. “The only thing I know is that the connection has been down since the day after we spoke. The records of the person who conducted said investigation are missing, so we can’t even tell who made the blunder yet either.”

John was surprised at his master’s statement. Does that mean we have a mole? A leak? Someone who sabotages the records in the sect? How did they get around the blood oath? How did they do this without knowing it was harming the sect?

He turned Life Vision and Immortal Eye on at the same time and looked around the sect. Most people were in the mi
ssion hub, but there was a few hundred people topside. Then, he accidentally caught sight of his master as he was looking all around.

  Jamie Cooper.

  Rank: ???

  Level: ???

  Sin: 6

  Status: Memory Manipulated.

John stopped moving. He even forgot to breathe. Master’s memory has been altered? How? I know how to remove the status, but I’m not strong enough to do it yet.

He kept checking around the sect and came across those above Rank 5 that were topside. They all had the same ‘Memory Manipulated’ status except for one.

  Jeremy May

  Rank: 9

  Level: 9

  Sin: 1,427,934

HOLY CRAP! He must be behind everything! All this time, he has been manipulating the elders and possibly even the people who do the investigations so he can control who dies and who lives. If he reaches out to anyone in the universe and says “I can get rid of your enemy”, then he’d make millions of friends and billions of Life Stones and who knows what else with the Rogue sect in his pocket! I need to get out of here before someone tells him I’m back in the sect. Surely, under the manipulation, master has told him that I have the ability to see through everything.

“Master, I wish to go into closed-door cultivation and wish to use your planet again.”

“Very well. You have my key to go there still, right?”

John nodded. “I do, master. I wish to go soon, as I’ve had an epiphany on my way here. I don’t want to let this opportunity slip.”

“Then go. I do not wish for you to lose your opportunity either.”

John did a martial arts salute and went to the door leading to the planet. All throughout, he had to act like nothing was wrong. As soon as he went through the rune onto the planet, he flew as fast as possible and in the opposite direction of where the hole leading to Danny’s corpse was. He figured that his master would tell the enemy of that location.

John made his mask cover his face since that removed the traces of his Life Power and made him seem invisible to everyone else. He did not dare to take it off. He put a total of 200 units in each foot, which caused the power to split his feet apart. However, his speed and distance per second more than quadrupled. With him overusing his Life Power, he was getting 500 feet per unit, making him travel 100,000 feet per step.

His feet were skinless, but he gritted his teeth and carried on. After a few minutes, he had already travelled almost 1,200 miles. While looking around, there were quite a few Rank 6 creatures scattered about, but none of them were near him. John landed next to a tree and began digging straight away. He put Life Power into his hands so after a few seconds he was already 200 feet deep. This time, he made sure to close the entrance up as best as he could. The hole was next to a big tree over 1,000 miles away from the house, and his Life Power is masked, so he was safe for at least a little while.

John kept digging. The further down, the safer he felt. He didn’t stop at 250 miles like when he found the cave Jamie had made but kept going. After a few hours, he was already more than 1,000 miles deep and came out in a cave full of lava. The whole opening was lit up. He didn’t put the dirt, rocks or anything else inside his Storage Space, and he just kept throwing it behind him to close the hole up.

He could feel the heat generated by the place, but it didn’t bother him at all. John walked to the very edge of the rocks and squatted down, placing his hand not far from the lava. Not feeling any more generated heat than when he first came in the cave, he put his pinkie finger into the lava and quickly took it out. Looking at his finger, it seemed like there was no damage at all.

John made sure his clothes were not affected by the lava either. After making sure both he and all his clothes were not burned, he took a lava bath.

I need to reach Rank 3 as soon as possible to survive. Hopefully I can help master and the others remove the memory manipulation. But, how am I going to get around the blood oath? Those with the memory manipulation will unknowingly hurt other members, but I will be knowingly hurting other members so the blood oath will activate.

  ‘Ding’

ToolTip - The blood oath is a foreign power that isn’t recognised by the system so it can not harm the user unless the user lets it.

Initially lying down in the lava up to his shoulders, he dropped under the surface because of the surprise of the ToolTip.

Coming back up for air, he started relaxing again. The blood oath couldn’t harm him! That part of the problem was now fixed. He started thinking of what other issues might appear.

There is more than one elder that is in on this. There’s no way Jeremy May is the only one. He might not even be the mastermind... Maybe, I should pretend to be manipulated when I become Rank 3?

No, that won’t work as I don’t have immunity to it. I know how to break it and I know when it’s being used on me, but if someone much stronger like Jeremy uses it on me, I’ll be screwed.

I can disguise myself as someone I’ve seen inside the sect and then scout for information to see what’s possible, but that’s all for when I’m Rank 3.

By his estimations, if he used all five parts of his mind and gained 33 Life Power per minute, then it would take just over five years to reach 100 million units.

While he relaxed in the lava with his mask still on, he used the last two parts of his mind to absorb and merge more Life Power.

  Chapter 37

  First Closed-door Cultivation

Just after seven months later, the skill Force II was completed.

  Completed List:

Force - Accelerate, Brakes and Master.

Force II - Speed, Control and Fuel.

  Misc List:

  Maximum Idlers - Idlers 0/158, +1 Max Idlers - 157/2159

  Maximum Workers - Idlers 0/158, +1 Idler Workers - 59/2061

  ??? - Idlers 0/158, ???, ???, ??? (Unlocks At Life Stage Level 3)

These were the only skills available for him to get up for the next couple of months until he reached Rank 2 Level 3. When he reached the next level it would unlock the next set of skills, so he put all 158 Idlers into Max Idlers.

Two months later, John had 30 million Life Power total. He made branches from his ankles up to the knees in both legs. Compared to having the skin of both his feet and hands peel off, the pain of creating branches was like getting pricked by a needle. It was annoying and hurt for a little while, but it was not enough to even worry him.

  ‘Ding!’

Congratulations on entering Rank 2 Level 3.

As soon as John entered the next level, he checked the new skill that unlocked.

  Movement - Idlers 0/158, Teleport - 0/1, Control - 0/3, Random - 0/1

  Movement:

Teleport: Spend 500 Life Power to teleport to a random location within a 40 square mile area.

Control: Each level increases the size of the area.

Random: When using the teleport, able to narrow down the location you wish to teleport to.

Bonus for maxing all skill levels: Able to pinpoint where you want to teleport.

A month later, the Max Idlers skill was complete. He put all Idlers into Teleport, and the time came up as 1d 1h 30m. The extra Idler he put into Max Workers. The Control skill’s time came up as 2d 3h, and the next level was 4d 6h then 8d 12h with the final Random Skill 17d. Thirty-one days and nineteen hours later, the skill was completed.

The Control skill increased the size of the map by 20 square miles each level, so when it was complete, he had the choice of where to teleport to in a 100 square mile radius. He looked at the world map in the third tab, and an icon of himself appeared. He could move the icon about, and when he put it in place on the map, it asked if he wanted to teleport there. Declining, he went back to the first tab.

He put all Idlers into Max Workers, the remaining Idler he left unused. The time was 3mo 22d, and after that was completed, he put all Idlers in Max Workers again. The time was 7mo 16d.

Three months later, he had enou
gh Life Power to create branches from his knees to his hips.

  ‘Ding!’

Congratulations on entering Rank 2 Level 4.

Four months later, the Maximum Workers skill was completed. He needed another three months to have enough Life Power to get into Level 5. With nothing to put the Idlers into other than Maximum Idlers, he put them there. The time was 7mo 14d, same as Maximum Workers.

Three months later, he completed the branches from his hips to his stomach.

  ‘Ding!’

Congratulations on entering Rank 2 Level 5.

  Scan - Idlers 0/160, Vertical - 0/1, Horizontal - 0/1, Full - 0/1

Scan: 0.01 Life Power per heartbeat, the average is 0.8 Life Power per minute.

Vertical: Sends an invisible scan vertically using Life Power every heartbeat and sends the results to user’s mind.

Horizontal: Sends an invisible scan horizontally using Life Power every heartbeat and sends the results to user’s mind.

Full: Sends a full 360-degree scan using Life Power every heartbeat and sends the results to user’s mind.

Bonus for maxing all skill levels: Option to turn the Scan on or off.

Four months later, the Maximum Idlers completed. He put all 160 Idlers into Scan’s Vertical, and the time came up at 1d 1h 15m. Horizontal started at 2d 2h 30m, and Full was 4d 5h. When Vertical was completed, he could see the details of 5 miles up and down of where he was lying down. All the little features were mapped out in his mind, much like a submarine’s scanner.

Horizontal was the same as Vertical, but the details of the map were from his left, right, front and back of where he was lying down. The full scan was like it said: a full 360 degree of a 5-mile squared distance. He could see even the ants moving in the ground. The map updated itself eighty times per minute, just like his heartbeat.

The surplus of information almost caused his brain to fry, since he was using all his brain power to cultivate. Overwhelmed, he turned the Scan option off.
