Never Falling Again: An opposites attract, Navy SEAL on vacation romantic comedy (Falling in Maui Book 3)
Page 31
“At the risk of sounding like a completely spoiled, little shit. I hate it. I hate everything about it. I hate putting on a suit every morning. I hate sitting at a desk. I hate being inside all day. I hate doing the exact same thing every, single day.” I let out a frustrated sigh. “But I was too busy missing you for the past month to come up with anything better to do with my time.”
“Tell me what you really think!” Natalia laughs softly, her breasts pressing against my chest again and again with every laugh, making my cock tug against my thigh from the feel of her.
“I know, I sound like such an asshole. My family is literally handing me the keys to the kingdom, and I don’t want them.”
“No, I mean it. I want you to tell me what you really think. Always.” She smiles at me again, and I know I would happily spend my life just looking into the depths of those brown eyes. “There’s no point spending your life doing something that you don’t love. I mean it’s not like every single day of nursing is all rainbows and unicorns. But I love it. I love helping people who are sick and hurt and going through one of the worst times of their lives. And I get to help make it better. That’s amazing!”
“You’re amazing. Have I ever told you that?”
Her lips twitch. “Maybe. But I don’t think that’s something that can be said too many times.”
“You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met. I wish I was as clear as you are on what I want to do in this world. I know that I want to contribute to something that matters, but I’ve got nothing beyond that.” I let out another frustrated sigh. “We’re having a baby, so I need to have a damn job.”
“Well, just because you can’t be a Navy SEAL anymore doesn’t mean that you can’t still do work that matters. What exactly was it that you liked about being in the Navy?”
Natalia sits up suddenly and her long brown hair sways against her pretty breasts. I have a goddess in my bed, and she has no idea how sexy she is. She leans across me to grab her phone on the bedside table, and her breasts graze against my chest.
“I’m going to make a list!” She announces in excitement.
“Never has list-making sounded quite this sexy.”
“You should see me in a stationery store. It’s downright pornographic. All that paper. All those pens. And highlighters? Please, I’m getting turned on just thinking about it.”
“You know you’re a total weirdo, right?”
“You’re the one who loves me. So, that probably says more about you than it does about me.”
“How could I resist the weirdest and sexiest woman I’ve ever met?” My fingers trail down her arm from her shoulder to dangerously close to her breast.
Natalia shrugs my hands off. “Stop trying to distract me. This is important!”
“Okay, okay. You’re the boss.” I smile up at her, realizing just how completely okay with that I am. She’s bossing me around because she loves me and wants to help me. How could I say no to that?
“So, tell me five things that you liked about being in the Navy? Five things that made you feel like the work you did mattered.” She’s sitting there staring down at me, her hands primed to take notes of what I say.
Leaning back against the pillows to think over her question, I rest my hands behind my head. “Like you said, I liked helping people. I liked being one of the guys. My family didn’t matter there. No one’s families mattered. Once we enlisted, we were all the same. I liked feeling like I had a reason to wake up every morning and go to bed tired every night. I liked the physical aspect of my job. I just don’t think I was meant to sit at a desk every day. And I liked that we all worked together towards the same goal.”
“Hmmm, okay, so helping people. Hanging around with a bunch of military dudes. Something physical. And definitely not at a desk. Shared goal. No one cares about your rich family…” Natalia recites my list back to me out of order.
“Yeah, I got nothing. What can I do that fits all those things other than being in the Navy? Maybe this is pointless, and I should just keep working for my family. I can do that from anywhere. I know my parents would like to keep me under their thumb in New York. But we have companies all over the world.”
“Nope, no way. Not for a single second. Cooper, you have your whole life ahead of you. Our whole life. I am not interested being with a man who hates his job. We’re going to figure this out, I promise. Let me think for a minute.” Natalia frowns down at her list, as she reads through it again and again. “Hmmm…”
She has the cutest frown. Every damn thing about her is cute from the top of her head to her cute little toes.
“There’s a lot of hmmm-ing going on over there. And I can think of a much better way to spend the night,” I tell her.
“I thought you were exhausted,” she says, looking up at me and smiling.
“I think I’m getting my second wind.” I reach out and take her hand and run it along my hard cock. “See?”
Natalia rolls her eyes at me, and then looks back at her phone. But she keeps absentmindedly stroking my cock. If we have to spend the night hopelessly trying to figure out what I’m going to do with the rest of my life – other than spending it loving her – I can’t argue with doing it this way.
“Hold on, I’ve got it!” Natalia says, shaking both of her hands. Including the one holding her phone… and the one holding my cock.
“Ouch.” Yeah, that turned real fast from a hand-job to a slap right to the cock.
“Oh, sorry.” She glances down and pulls her hand away like she burned it on my dick. “Does it help if I promise to kiss it better?”
“Definitely couldn’t hurt.”
“In a minute, I promise. Because I’ve got it. I know what you should do!”
I’m not getting my hopes up. It’s as likely that she’s going to suggest I become a roadie for Zariah Ferré as any other job. “And? I’m listening.”
“Remember how we met?”
“Yeah, I think I can remember that far back. You thought I was hot and wanted to meet me. So, you decided to crash into me in a hospital hallway and then cop a feel.”
“Ummm, no. That is not what happened at all! You bumped into me, very rudely. Not looking at all where you were going, and then I used my medical training to selflessly make sure that you were okay. And you were the one who thought I was hot.”
“That’s not how I remember it. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Except for the part about me thinking you were hot. I thought you were smoking hot. I wanted you from the first minute I saw you.”
“Exactly.” She smiles happily at me. Sometimes it’s like we’re having two different conversations, but she definitely knows how to keep things interesting. “But after you rudely steamrolled into me just so you could meet me, we worked on the hospital committee together.”
“You want me to work at a hospital?” I know that she means well. And she works in a hospital, so it’s a happy place for her. But I spent weeks trapped in a hospital bed. Hospitals are always going to remind me of that, and I’m not sure I like the idea of spending my days there.
“No. Unless you want to? My point is that you care about veterans. You care about making their lives better and making sure that they’re taken care of when they’re no longer in active service. You know exactly how hard that transition can be. So, maybe you could do something with that? Doesn’t your family have a charity or a foundation or something? Your family has all this money, so why don’t you use some of it to help veterans?”
My mouth is hanging wide open. How could I not have seen this? It’s perfect. And it’s been right there in front of me the whole time.
“Have I told you how much I love you?” I shout, dragging her down to kiss me. “This is perfect! It gets my parents off my back. I can do something I actually care about. I can give back to the other guys who have been through something like I have. This is absolutely perfect! Shit, I want to get started working on this right away. There’s so much to plan. So much to do. Na
talia, thank you. You are the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my entire life. I don’t know what I would do without you. Actually, I do now, and I was a damn mess. Babe, I don’t ever want to be without you again.” My hands cup her perfect face. “I’m going to spend the rest of my life loving you.”
“Feel free to start right now.” Natalia runs her hand down my chest and wraps her fingers around my dick again.
Then my phone starts to buzz on the table next to me. I ignore it because I’m not about to let anything ruin this moment.
“Aren’t you going to get that?”
“Wasn’t planning on it.”
“But what if it’s important.”
“It’s not.”
“But you won’t know that unless you see what it is.”
“Are you going to let me not check that message?”
She shakes her head. “Probably not.”
“Got it.” Reaching over I pick up my phone and let out a long sigh.
“Bad news?”
“We’ve been summoned.”
“Summoned? Who summoned us?”
“My family. Brunch tomorrow morning.”
Her face tells me that something’s wrong.
“Hey, what’s going on in that beautiful head of yours?”
“What is your family going to think? About all of this. Me. The baby…”
“They’re going to think it’s amazing. My parents are extremely invested in carrying on the Hamilton name.”
She nods up at me, but I can tell that something is still wrong.
“Tell me.”
“It’s nothing.”
“Tell me, babe.”
When she shakes her head at me, I start tickling her side.
“Oooh, Cooper! No! Stooop!”
“Then tell me what’s wrong.”
“It’s just… I don’t want your family to hate me.”
“How could anyone possibly ever hate you?”
“What if they think I got pregnant on purpose, to trap you or something?”
“I’m sorry, but that’s the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard. If anything, I trapped you. Knocked you up, so you’d come back to me. Worked like a damn charm.”
She frowns suspiciously up at me. “That’s what my friends said. Something about your Navy SEAL sperm being super swimmers.”
I let out a bark of laughter. “Well, they come by it naturally. I was always the best swimmer on the team. Trust me, no one in my family is going to think anything bad about you. And if they try to, I’ll set them straight. I’ll tell them that you’re the best damn thing that ever happened to me.”
“You’re the best damn thing that ever happened to me, too.”
“Yeah, I am. Now if you would have just believed me the first time that I told you that.”
“When was that?”
“Pretty much the first second I met you. I think it was pretty clear that you were super into me.”
“I wasn’t. You just kept telling me that I was into you.”
“Exactly. Everything went according to plan.”
“A plan, huh? It’s definitely starting to sound like you trapped me.” A grin sweeps across those pretty, pink lips.
“I would trap you, I would wait for you, I would do whatever it takes to make you mine. Because I’m always yours forever, Natalia.”
“Do you know any other Zariah songs?
“You can spend the rest of my life teaching them to me. I love you, Natalia. And I love our baby.”
“We love you too, Cooper.”
